Set up a Blink camera in this order: install and verify the Blink app account, confirm a 2.4 GHz home Wi‑Fi connection, configure a Sync Module if your camera requires one, then add the camera by scanning its QR code or entering its serial number. Blink lists 2 Mbps of upload speed per device as the minimum baseline. The temporary BLINK-XXXX network that appears during setup is a normal pairing step; it is not your final home network.
What you need before starting
Gather the camera, its QR code or serial number, a phone or tablet with internet access, and the password for the home Wi‑Fi network. Install the current Blink app before attempting device enrollment.

- A Blink account: You must create an account or sign in and complete any verification prompt the app displays before adding hardware.
- A 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network: Blink’s setup guidance specifies this band for the home connection.
- Enough upstream capacity: Blink lists a minimum upload speed of 2 Mbps per Blink device. If several cameras share the connection, the household connection needs enough capacity for each active device.
- Camera permissions: Allow the app to use the phone camera when you scan a QR code.
- Network permissions: On iPhone or iPad, Blink needs Local Network permission. On Android, it needs Location permission to discover the temporary setup network.
- Power: Install batteries in a battery camera or connect a plug-in or wired model according to its hardware instructions before beginning enrollment.
Keep the phone close to the camera and, when applicable, the Sync Module. A weak phone connection or a powered-off device can make a correct setup appear to fail.

| Camera family | Sync Module required? | Communication path | Power form | Can join a system that already has a module? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blink Outdoor and Indoor (3rd Gen) | Yes; sold separately | Module-managed communication | Battery camera family | Yes |
| Blink XT | Yes; sold separately | Module-managed communication | Battery camera family | Yes |
| Blink XT2 | Yes; sold separately | Module-managed communication | Battery camera family | Yes |
| Blink Mini | No | Direct Wi‑Fi communication | Plug-in camera | Yes |
| Blink Video Doorbell | No | Direct Wi‑Fi communication | Doorbell model; power configuration depends on installation | Yes |
| Blink Wired Floodlight | No | Direct Wi‑Fi communication | Wired camera | Yes |
A module is therefore not automatically required for every Blink product. For Outdoor, Indoor (3rd Gen), XT, and XT2, the camera cannot complete its normal enrollment until a compatible Sync Module has been added. Mini, Video Doorbell, and Wired Floodlight models can communicate without one, although the app can place them in a system that includes a module.
Install the Blink app and verify your account
- Download and install the current Blink app from your phone’s official app store.
- Open the app and choose the option to create a Blink account, or enter the credentials for an existing account.
- Complete the account-verification step shown in the app. Do this before attempting to enroll a camera or Sync Module.
- Confirm that the phone can reach the internet. If other apps cannot load, fix the phone’s connection first; device enrollment cannot proceed reliably while the phone is offline.
- When the app asks for camera access, choose the setting that allows scanning. You can still use manual serial-number entry if you do not want to scan.
The account is the identity under which your Blink systems and cameras are organized. A camera that has power and Wi‑Fi access still will not appear in the app until it is enrolled under that account.
Set up a Sync Module first

- Plug the Sync Module into power near the phone and the router. Leave it connected while the app searches for it.
- From the Blink app Home screen, tap the plus (+) icon.
- Choose Sync Module.
- Scan the QR code printed on the module. If scanning is unsuccessful or you prefer typing, choose manual entry and enter the module’s serial number.
- When prompted, create a new system or select an existing system for the module.
- Wait for the module’s stated setup pattern: a blinking blue LED and a solid green LED. Do not continue to the discovery step until that pattern appears.
- Tap Discover Device in the app.
- When the phone asks to join a temporary network, select
BLINK-XXXX. For this module pairing step,XXXXis the last four digits of the module’s serial number. - Return to the app if the operating system switches you to Wi‑Fi settings. Select the home 2.4 GHz network, enter its password, and tap Join.
- Tap Done when the app confirms the module’s connection.
The temporary BLINK network is used to pass the home-network details to the module. It is expected to disappear as the phone returns to its ordinary connection; it is not a separate internet service you need to keep using.
Add a camera to the Blink app
For cameras that use a Sync Module
- With the module already configured, tap Add Device (+) in the Blink app.
- Choose the camera type that matches the label on your device.
- Point the phone at the camera’s QR code when the scanner opens. Keep the code flat, clean, and inside the on-screen frame.
- If the scanner cannot read the code, select the manual option and type the camera’s serial number exactly as printed.
- Select the existing system that contains the Sync Module, or create a system if the app offers that choice.
- Follow the remaining prompts. Stop only when the app displays confirmation that the camera was added.
For Mini, Video Doorbell, and Wired Floodlight
These models do not require a Sync Module for communications. Start at Add Device (+), select the correct camera type, scan its QR code or enter its serial number, and follow the app’s connection prompts for the home network. You may select an existing system with a Sync Module if you want the camera organized there; the module is optional for these models.
Do not try to add a module-dependent camera through the direct path. If the app repeatedly asks for a Sync Module after you select Outdoor, Indoor (3rd Gen), XT, or XT2, return to the Home screen and complete the module setup first.

What the BLINK-XXXX network means
During module pairing, the app temporarily asks the phone to join a network named BLINK- followed by four characters. In this setup flow those characters are the last four digits of the module serial number. This network is a handoff channel between the phone and the module, not the name of your router and not the Wi‑Fi network the camera will use during normal operation.
If the app sends you to the phone’s Wi‑Fi screen, select the matching BLINK network, then return to Blink and choose the home 2.4 GHz network. A phone that automatically reconnects to another saved network may need you to refresh the list and select the BLINK entry again.

The app cannot find the temporary BLINK network
- On iOS, open the phone’s app permissions and enable Blink’s Local Network access.
- On Android, enable Blink’s Location permission; Android uses this permission for nearby Wi‑Fi discovery.
- Return to the Blink app and refresh the Wi‑Fi list after changing the permission.
- Confirm that the module is powered and showing the blinking-blue and solid-green pattern required before Discover Device.
- Move the phone closer to the module and temporarily turn off any setting that automatically switches away from a network without internet access.
Your home network does not appear
- Verify that the router is offering a 2.4 GHz network. The setup requirement is not satisfied by a 5 GHz-only network.
- Check the spelling and capitalization of the Wi‑Fi password before tapping Join.
- Move the module or camera closer to the router for the initial enrollment, then return it to the intended location after setup.
- Refresh the network list after correcting the router or phone setting rather than repeatedly submitting an old password.
The connection drops or the app times out
- Check the available upload capacity. Blink’s stated baseline is 2 Mbps per device, so simultaneous cameras and other uploads can leave too little upstream bandwidth.
- Keep the phone online while the app transfers the network details. Switching the phone to airplane mode or another Wi‑Fi network interrupts enrollment.
- Restart the setup from the last confirmed stage: a module-dependent camera should resume with the configured module, while a direct camera should resume from Add Device (+).
QR scanning fails
- Allow camera access to the Blink app.
- Clean the printed code and remove glare by tilting the phone slightly.
- Increase the distance until the entire code fits inside the scanner frame, then hold the phone still.
- Use manual serial-number entry instead. Enter every letter and number exactly; a single transposed character identifies a different device or an invalid serial.
The camera was added to the wrong system
Systems are the groups shown in the Blink app. During enrollment, check the selected system name before accepting the final confirmation. If the camera appears under an unintended system, open that camera’s device-management options in the app and use the available remove or move workflow, then add it again to the intended system. The exact options shown can vary by app version.

The module LED never reaches the required pattern
Confirm that the module is plugged into power, wait for its startup sequence to settle, and keep the phone nearby. If the blinking-blue and solid-green pattern never appears, do not proceed with Discover Device; the app is not yet ready to perform the handoff. Check the power connection and retry the module enrollment before adding a camera.
Choosing a setup path for a mixed camera system
| Your camera mix | First action | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Only Outdoor, Indoor (3rd Gen), XT, or XT2 | Set up the Sync Module | Add each camera to that module’s system |
| Only Mini, Video Doorbell, or Wired Floodlight | Tap Add Device (+) | Enroll each camera directly through the app |
| Module-dependent cameras plus direct-connect models | Set up the Sync Module first | Add module-dependent cameras, then add the direct models to the same or another system |
| A direct-connect camera with a module already installed | Keep the existing module setup | Add the camera and select the desired system; the module remains optional for that camera |
This order prevents a common mistake: trying to enroll a battery camera before the communication hub it requires has a home-network connection.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSync Module 2 and local storage considerations
If your camera requires a module, or you specifically want the local-storage workflow supported by Sync Module 2, choose the module option during setup and complete its network enrollment before adding cameras. The app will present the available storage prompts after the module is recognized. Local storage does not change the initial account, 2.4 GHz, permission, or camera-QR steps.
Do not buy or configure a module solely because you own a Mini, Video Doorbell, or Wired Floodlight: those models can communicate without one. A module can still be useful when you want to place direct-connect cameras in a shared system or use the supported local-storage workflow.
Verify the finished installation
- The camera appears in the intended system on the Blink app Home screen.
- The app shows the camera-added confirmation rather than leaving the device in an unfinished setup state.
- The camera has the expected power source connected and remains reachable after the phone leaves the temporary setup network.
- The phone has returned to its normal Wi‑Fi or cellular connection; the
BLINK-XXXXnetwork should not be treated as the camera’s permanent network. - For a module-dependent model, the Sync Module remains online in the same system as the camera.
- If you added several devices, confirm each serial number and system assignment individually before mounting cameras in their final locations.
Once these checks pass, future app use starts from the system’s camera list rather than from the temporary pairing network. If you replace a router or change its Wi‑Fi password later, the cameras and any required module may need their network settings updated through the app.
