You can use OBS to send a turntable feed to YouTube, or loop rights-cleared local recordings. But OBS looping does not guarantee a continuous 24/7 broadcast, and owning a jazz record does not give you broadcast rights. Before setting up, confirm that you have permission for every recording and visual, including the intended territories and any archive. YouTube may interrupt a live stream that matches third-party content—even when you have a license—unless the relevant rights holder has allowlisted your channel.
Before you set up: clear the music and artwork
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the live picture with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, it may interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Buying a vinyl record does not, by itself, establish the rights needed to broadcast its recording worldwide. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the rights necessary for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights involving artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants.

- Get permission that covers the specific sound recordings and compositions, live broadcast, intended territories, and any replay or archive you plan to keep.
- Ask the relevant rights holder to confirm that your channel is on its Content ID allowlist; permission alone may not prevent a live interruption.
- Clear the visual too, whether it is album art, a static image, or camera footage. Use material you have permission to broadcast.
- Rights vary by recording, composition, territory, license scope and use. This is platform guidance, not legal advice.
If a live stream is archived, YouTube may make Content ID claims after it ends. That later process is separate from live scanning and the possibility of interruption during the broadcast.

Check that your YouTube channel can livestream
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance before configuring OBS. OBS uses YouTube’s encoder workflow: you create a stream in YouTube Studio and send it from the encoder.
Choose between live vinyl and a looped recording

Choose live vinyl if the broadcast needs to reflect records playing on a turntable in real time. Choose local media if you want a prebuilt sequence that can run without a physical record changing. Either approach still needs rights clearance, a stable computer and network, and a plan to notice and recover from failures.

How to set up the OBS stream
1. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream using the encoder option.
- In the Live Control Room, locate the stream key and server details. Treat the key as a password: do not show it on screen, share it publicly, or include it in a recording.
- Keep the Live Control Room open so you can check the incoming preview and stream health once OBS connects.
2. Build an OBS scene and add a visual
- In OBS, create a scene for the broadcast.
- Add an image or other visual source, or add a camera source if you want viewers to see the turntable. Use visuals you have permission to broadcast.
- Keep the layout simple and check the OBS preview to make sure the important content fits the frame.
The visual source does not change the music-rights requirements: artwork and other displayed material need clearance too.

3. Route the turntable audio into OBS
- Connect the turntable output to suitable capture hardware. The required connections depend on the turntable output and the capture device; a phono preamp may be needed if the signal and input require one.
- In OBS, open Settings → Audio and select the relevant input device if OBS is listening to the wrong source.
- Play a record and check that the corresponding meter moves in the OBS Audio Mixer. Listen to the captured sound before going live; a moving meter confirms signal activity, not that the sound is clean or correctly balanced.
There is no single wiring diagram that fits every turntable and capture setup. Check the device connections and input requirements for your particular hardware.

4. Or configure a local file or playlist
- For one local recording, add an OBS Media Source and enable its loop option.
- For multiple local files, OBS’s VLC Video source can play a playlist and loop the playlist. VLC must be installed for this option.
- Play through the scene and confirm that the file or playlist starts, loops, and produces audio in the mixer. This is an alternative to capturing a live turntable, not a required step for a live vinyl broadcast.

5. Connect OBS, test, and go live
- If helpful, run OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, then review the output and audio settings it selects. Settings should suit your equipment and available upload connection; no single setting is established as best for every turntable, recording, capture device, or network.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private.
- Use RTMPS if available in the YouTube encoder connection options. YouTube’s live encoder guidance gives 128 Kbps audio as a stereo RTMP/RTMPS baseline, not a guarantee of optimal sound for every source.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the feed to appear in the YouTube Live Control Room preview. Check the picture, audio, and stream-health indicators before making the stream public.
- Run a test for a few minutes before the intended broadcast. Listen for hum, clipping, silence, or unexpected source changes, and check that the visual is correct.
What 24/7 operation requires
OBS can loop local media, but a loop setting is not an uptime guarantee. A continuous broadcast depends on the computer, power, internet connection, OBS, the audio source and YouTube’s ingest all continuing to work. For a live turntable, the record and playback chain also need attention. YouTube recommends monitoring stream audio/video quality and stream health; its guidance does not establish a universal restart schedule or guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 uptime.

- Keep the computer and network connection available for the full time you intend to broadcast.
- Monitor the OBS preview and YouTube stream-health indicators, and arrange a way to notice silence, a stopped encoder, or a dropped stream.
- Have a recovery plan for power, network, OBS, capture-device and playback failures. Test recovery before relying on the stream.
- For a record playlist, check that transitions and loop behavior work as intended. For live vinyl, plan for the end of a record and the need to change or restart playback.
Common problems and fixes
