To run a 24/7 YouTube playlist through Restreamer, you need a continuous playlist player, Restreamer to publish its output, and YouTube Live Control Room to receive the stream. Restreamer’s documented setup covers receiving a source and publishing it to YouTube; the documentation reviewed does not establish a built-in local-file playlist scheduler. Treat playlist playback as a separate component unless the documentation for your exact Restreamer release confirms otherwise.
Understand the three parts of the setup
- Playlist player: plays your videos in sequence, loops them, and sends a continuous video signal.
- Restreamer: receives that signal and publishes it to YouTube. Its documentation describes network video sources and platform publication, but does not document a general local-file playlist scheduler.
- YouTube Live: receives the encoder stream through a stream key configured in Live Control Room and Restreamer.
Keep these roles separate when planning. Do not assume that adding a folder of videos to Restreamer will make them play continuously. Restreamer’s source wizard lists HTTP/HTTPS, including HLS and DASH, plus RTP, RTSP, RTMP and SRT inputs (Restreamer source documentation).

Choose where the playlist and Restreamer will run
A 24/7 stream needs both the playlist source and Restreamer available continuously, with enough upstream capacity to send the video to YouTube. You can self-host Restreamer on an always-on machine, or arrange an always-available hosted environment. There are no published cost or reliability comparisons in the cited setup documentation, so decide based on who will maintain the host, restart services, keep the source files accessible, monitor the connection, and secure the management interface.
Choose a playlist player based on supported file formats, reliable sequencing and looping, transitions and audio handling, reconnect behavior, and the ability to monitor or recover it without someone at the controls. The Restreamer documentation does not establish one preferred player or a native local playlist workflow.

Set up the channel and prepare the playlist
Check YouTube Live access
Open YouTube Studio and follow the current Live Control Room prompts to enable and configure live streaming. Google’s live-production guide says first-time activation can take 24 hours; this is guidance in that document, not a guaranteed delay for every account. Check what your current Studio workflow requires. Set the stream title, description, and visibility before testing.
Check every item’s rights
Confirm you have the necessary clearances for each playlist item’s live transmission, rebroadcast, and any on-demand archive. Check music, background audio, embedded footage, and the right to retain the resulting recording. Livestreams must comply with YouTube’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines (YouTube live-streaming policies and guidance).

Make the playlist genuinely continuous
Configure the separate player to advance through the videos and loop the sequence indefinitely. Verify its output format is accepted by the Restreamer source wizard. Decide deliberately how clips transition and what happens when a file ends, fails, or has no audio; a playlist that stops on an error is not a 24/7 source.

Install Restreamer
The official Quick Start describes running Restreamer as a Docker container and mounting configuration and data directories so they persist outside the container. Its sample maps host ports 8080 and 8181 to container ports 8080 and 8181, and also maps 1935, 1936, and UDP 6000. Port requirements depend on your deployment and the functions you use; check the current documentation rather than opening every port by default.

- Install Docker on the machine or hosted environment you intend to keep available.
- Follow the current Restreamer Docker Quick Start for the container command and persistent mounts for
/core/configand/core/data. - Expose only the ports needed for your deployment. The Quick Start notes that standard HTTP/HTTPS ports and public port forwarding are needed for full functionality; confirm which apply to your setup and network.
- Set a strong, unique password for the management interface. Do not leave default credentials in place, especially if the interface is reachable from the public internet.
Add the playlist output as a Restreamer source
- Open the Restreamer web interface and start its source wizard.
- Enter the playlist player’s continuous output address using a protocol supported by the wizard, such as HTTP/HTTPS, HLS, DASH, RTP, RTSP, RTMP, or SRT.
- Select an available video profile and check that the incoming video is the expected resolution and frame rate. The documentation does not prescribe a universal profile for every source and deployment.
- Configure audio intentionally. Restreamer’s wizard documentation says some platforms, including YouTube, require an active audio channel. If your clips have no sound, provide a silent audio track rather than sending no audio (Restreamer streaming wizard).
- Start the source and confirm that Restreamer receives a moving picture and audio track before configuring publication.
Publish from Restreamer to YouTube
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and copy its stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel.
- In Restreamer, open Publication Service, choose YouTube, enter the valid YouTube streaming ID or key, and save the configuration. See the Restreamer YouTube guide.
- Start the source/publication connection. Confirm that a bitrate appears in Restreamer’s main window and that YouTube receives an encoder preview.
- When the preview is correct, use YouTube Live Control Room to start the broadcast by selecting Go Live. YouTube’s encoder workflow is to create the stream in Live Control Room, copy its key into the encoder, start sending a preview, then start the live broadcast in YouTube. Follow the labels in your current Studio interface if they differ.
Test the full run before relying on it
Make the first test private. Watch the YouTube preview and the resulting stream long enough to verify that playlist items advance, the loop returns to the start, audio remains valid, and the connection stays active. Also test what happens if the playlist player or network connection briefly fails and whether the player resumes without manual intervention. No guaranteed uptime or hardware specification is established by the cited setup documentation, so do not treat a successful short test as proof of uninterrupted operation.

Google’s live-production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and advises teams to record longer streams for manual upload. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that guidance: do not assume one continuous stream will produce a complete, automatically saved archive. If you need a full recording, arrange a separate recording and archive workflow. The 12-hour statement is guidance in that document, not a promise of current universal archive behavior.

When ending a broadcast, the Restreamer YouTube guide says: “Always end the stream on YouTube first after an event.” End it through YouTube before stopping or interrupting Restreamer; the guide warns that interrupting the Restreamer stream during a live event may prevent YouTube from saving the DVR archive.
Troubleshoot common failures
- No video reaches Restreamer: check that the playlist player is running, its address and protocol are correct, and the source network is reachable. Confirm that the chosen input type matches the stream it emits.
- Restreamer receives video but YouTube shows no preview: verify the stream key, the selected YouTube publication service, and the source/publication connection. Recheck the key in Live Control Room if it has changed.
- Video appears but audio is missing or publication fails: inspect the source’s audio configuration. YouTube may require an active audio track; add a silent track when the program has no sound.
- The stream ends when a clip finishes: the playlist player may not be set to advance or loop, or may stop when a file cannot be read. Check its sequence and failure behavior separately from Restreamer.
- The connection drops and does not resume: check the playlist player, host, network path, and Restreamer service. The cited documentation does not establish automatic recovery guarantees for every deployment, so arrange monitoring and a restart or recovery procedure appropriate to your environment.
- The broadcast is missing from the archive: check whether it exceeded the under-12-hour archive guidance and whether Restreamer was stopped before the stream was ended in YouTube. Use a separate recording workflow for a complete long-run archive.
