Then use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and an encoder to send a continuous program, choose settings your connection can sustain, preview and test the stream, and set up monitoring and recovery. You can use software or dedicated hardware; neither removes the need to clear music rights.
1. Confirm the channel can go live—and clear the music first
Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements
YouTube says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. Check the current YouTube live-streaming requirements and enable live streaming for the account before scheduling a launch; availability and account requirements can change.

Clear each recording and composition for the intended use
A song’s language, online availability, purchase, or “royalty-free” label does not by itself establish that you can use it in a 24/7 YouTube live stream. Check the rights for both the specific sound recording and the underlying composition, and confirm that permission covers live streaming and the territories where viewers may watch. If you intend to leave the broadcast available afterward, confirm that archived use is covered too.
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Keep written records identifying the tracks, rights holders, permission scope, territories and any relevant restrictions.

Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to a warning, a placeholder replacing the feed, interruption or termination of the stream, or a strike. Even with a license, the stream may be interrupted if the relevant rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Confirm allowlisting with the rights owner or its administrator and read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. A license and an allowlist are separate checks; neither should be assumed from the other.
2. Choose how to keep the program running
Software encoder
A computer running encoder software can send the programmed feed to YouTube. This is a flexible way to combine or schedule sources, but the computer, encoder, power and network connection must remain available for the stream to continue. YouTube supports software encoder workflows and provides guidance for setting up an encoder in its live-streaming tips.

Dedicated hardware encoder
A hardware encoder is an optional alternative, particularly for a production that needs dedicated encoding equipment. Compare candidate devices by their supported input formats, output protocols, codecs, resolutions and frame rates, plus any recovery or failover capability. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, but does not require one for an ordinary music feed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse YouTube’s encoder workflow, not an API unless you need one
For most channel operators, Live Control Room and an encoder are enough. YouTube’s API documentation describes the architecture of a 24/7 feed: a broadcast is the viewer-facing event or video, while a stream carries the encoder input. API-level creation is for custom automation or more complex broadcast arrangements, not a prerequisite for a standard continuous feed. See Understanding broadcasts and streams.

- Equipped with a single mic input (XLR or ¼"), two LINE inputs for guitar and keyboard, and USB-C input for connecting to a computer
3. Build the feed and connect it to YouTube
- Prepare the program. Select recordings you have cleared for the intended live use, then arrange them as a continuous playlist or program in the playback or encoder setup you have chosen. Check transitions, silence, track order and the end-of-playlist behavior so the program does not stop unexpectedly.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Choose the encoder workflow and create or select the live event. Set the event’s title, description, visibility and any other applicable details before launch.
- Create or select the stream key. Copy the key from the Live Control Room into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, place it in a public screenshot, or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Configure the encoder’s input and output. Choose the prepared playlist or program as the source, then set the output protocol, codec, resolution, frame rate, audio and bitrate. The settings must be supported by both the encoder and YouTube, and should fit the sustained capacity of your upload connection.
- Start sending the encoder feed, then preview it. Confirm that Live Control Room receives the expected picture and sound before making the event public or announcing it. Do not assume that a successful encoder start means the viewer-facing event is available and healthy.
4. Set video, audio and network settings for reliability
YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate guidance lists supported ingestion and media settings, including RTMP/RTMPS, video codecs, AAC or MP3 audio, CBR encoding and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. Use the live table in that guide for the bitrate appropriate to your chosen resolution and frame rate; do not copy a bitrate from an older tutorial or treat one setting as universal.
YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its streaming tips say to leave 20% bandwidth headroom and ensure the total stream bitrate fits within available upload capacity. For an always-on feed, choose a resolution and frame rate that your encoder and connection can sustain continuously, rather than tuning for a short speed-test peak. If the connection is variable, reducing the output setting can be more dependable than repeatedly pushing a setting at the edge of capacity.

HLS and DASH are additional documented ingestion paths for compatible encoder and production setups. They are not necessary for a typical encoder workflow; use them only when your chosen encoder or requirements call for them. YouTube publishes separate requirements for HLS and DASH, including format-specific delivery requirements.
5. Test the stream before launch
- Start early enough to inspect the preview. Send the encoder feed to Live Control Room ahead of the intended launch and check that the incoming audio and video are correct.
- Check the viewer experience. Verify that the event is reachable from the channel and watch pages with the visibility setting you intend. Listen for clipping, imbalance, silence or abrupt level changes, and watch for frozen, missing or unstable video.
- Test recovery where available. If you have a backup encoder or failover arrangement, test the switchover before relying on it. YouTube recommends testing encoder and backup failover when available; a backup should be verified, not merely configured.
- Set an operational response. Decide who or what checks the feed, how an alert is raised, and who restarts or escalates a failure. The right schedule and escalation path depend on your staffing and equipment. Keep the stream key and recovery instructions accessible only to authorized operators.
6. Monitor the live feed and handle common failures
YouTube recommends continuously monitoring stream quality. For a 24/7 channel, check the incoming stream and the viewer-facing event rather than assuming that the encoder will run indefinitely without attention. An operator should know how to stop a bad feed, restore the program, and check the preview again after recovery.

- Live Control Room receives no signal: Check that the encoder is running, the selected event and stream key match, and the network can reach YouTube. If the key may have been exposed or the wrong key was copied, replace or reselect it in Studio and update the encoder.
- Video or audio stutters: Compare the total output bitrate with stable upload capacity. Reduce the resolution, frame rate or bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder guidance if the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings, and preserve the recommended bandwidth headroom.
- The stream starts but the audience cannot reach it: Check the event’s visibility and confirm that the viewer-facing event is accessible from the channel or watch page. An encoder sending data is not by itself proof that the event is available to viewers.
- The feed is interrupted after a music match: Treat this as a rights issue, not an encoder fault. Check YouTube’s notice, verify that the relevant recording and composition permissions cover the stream and territories, and confirm with the rights owner that the channel is allowlisted through Content ID.
- The program stops at a playlist boundary: Check the playback setup’s repeat or continuation behavior, then test the transition in preview. A continuous YouTube event depends on the encoder continuing to send a valid feed.
