You can run a lofi radio stream from OBS on Windows 11 by preparing an eligible YouTube channel, building an OBS scene with a visual and rights-cleared music, connecting YouTube Live, and testing the stream before leaving it unattended. But OBS on a home PC is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation, and YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as a replay.
Before you start: check channel access and music rights
Confirm that YouTube Live is available
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and creators must be at least 16 to live stream. Check YouTube Studio to confirm your channel is ready; if live streaming is not enabled, follow the instructions shown there rather than relying on an assumed activation wait. OBS’s Quick Start Guide covers initial setup, and YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the connection process.

Clear the music for live use and replay
Use music you created or have permission to broadcast on YouTube. Check that the permission covers live streaming and any replay, the territories you intend to reach, and monetization if relevant. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; it can issue a warning, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. A license does not necessarily prevent detection: the rightsholder may need to allowlist your channel. YouTube’s Terms of Service place responsibility for necessary rights on the content provider. Its Audio Library guidance and Creator Music information describe official options; Creator Music availability may vary by region.

Create a scene for the lofi broadcast. Add the visual you want viewers to see, such as a still image or subtle animation, and add the audio source for your cleared music. Arrange and preview the sources in OBS so the image and audio are both present before you connect.
-
Check that the audio is audible without clipping and that the visual is framed as intended. A static or low-motion scene can be a sensible fit for lofi, but the appropriate source setup depends on the media and your OBS configuration.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live

In YouTube Studio, open the current live-stream setup and create or select the broadcast.

Keep the stream key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
Choose encoder settings for a stable stream
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (never more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. The table lists YouTube’s published H.264 bitrate minimums and recommendations; they are platform guidance, not a guarantee that a particular PC or internet connection can sustain them.
| H.264 format | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
For stereo audio, YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. YouTube also supports H.265/HEVC and AV1 video, but the figures above are its H.264 values. For a mostly static lofi visual, 720p30 can be a practical starting point when bandwidth or encoder capacity is limited; choose 1080p30 if your system and connection can handle it and you want more image detail. These are starting choices, not guarantees for your hardware.

Run an upload-speed test and leave headroom above the selected stream bitrate rather than planning to use the connection’s full upload capacity. Sustained streaming magnifies the effect of unstable bandwidth or an overloaded encoder. YouTube’s live encoder settings list the current ingest requirements and recommendations.

Test the full broadcast before relying on it
-
Start a test stream with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, as YouTube recommends.
-
Check the OBS preview and audio meters, then confirm in YouTube Studio that the incoming signal is healthy and the sound is playing as expected.
-
Watch YouTube’s stream-health status and messages during the test. If health warnings appear, reduce resolution or bitrate, check the upload connection, or address encoder load before attempting a long session.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSpecial offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Test the planned scene and music for long enough to reveal problems such as a source stopping or audio becoming unavailable. A successful short test is useful, but it does not prove the PC, power, internet, or OBS will stay available for a full day.

Plan for uptime and replay separately
A Windows PC is a do-it-yourself host, not an uptime guarantee
With OBS running locally, the broadcast depends on the PC staying powered and connected, Windows not interrupting the session, OBS remaining active, and every source continuing to work. Power loss, internet outages, system updates, sleep settings, application failures, and source problems can stop the stream. Monitor it and test your recovery process; no Windows 11-specific unattended configuration or recovery recipe is established here, so do not assume a setting or add-on makes a home PC fail-proof.
A hosted server or VPS with automation is another approach, but it brings its own setup, monitoring, and restart requirements. A 2026 third-party guide discusses VPS and FFmpeg approaches at Hostinger’s 24/7 streaming guide; it is not a benchmark proving that any hosted configuration will run without oversight.
A continuous broadcast may not produce a continuous archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its live-stream archive guidance recommends keeping a local backup. If you need a dependable replay, record locally and plan sufficient storage, or use sessions under the threshold while accounting for the interruption viewers may experience between sessions. Do not treat a YouTube archive as guaranteed for a 24-hour stream.

OBS cannot connect or YouTube receives no signal: Confirm the selected service or server and stream key match the current YouTube setup. Replace an exposed or reset key in OBS, then retry.
-
Stream health reports dropped frames or instability: Check upload stability and encoder load. Lower the resolution or bitrate to a setting your connection and computer can sustain, then test again.
-
Audio is missing or unexpectedly stops: Confirm the intended audio source is active in the scene, that its level is audible in OBS, and that the source remains available during the test. Also verify the music’s live-stream permission.
