For a prepared, continuous kids’ audiobook program, use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room with a software or hardware encoder: create or schedule a stream, connect the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, preview the feed, then start it. Before going public, clear the rights to every part of the program and set the audience accurately. If you need YouTube to retain an archive, do not rely on a single uninterrupted 24-hour session: streams over 12 hours may not be captured.
Check that the channel can livestream
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16 years old. First-time livestream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned launch rather than expecting to go live immediately.

Prepare the audiobook program and clear its rights
Assemble the broadcast
Prepare the audiobook recording and the visual that will accompany it, such as a suitable cover image or a simple visual loop. Have the title and description ready. If the video is only a static image with audio, check the result in a test stream so you can confirm that the visual and sound behave as intended.

“Original” does not automatically establish that every element is cleared for worldwide livestreaming and archiving. Keep records covering the written story, recording, narrator or other performers, music, illustrations, and any third-party assets. Collaborators, publishers, and contractors may have separate rights; the actual ownership and license scope depend on the relevant agreements and applicable law.
#1 Best Overall
YouTube requires providers to have the rights needed for the live and archived material they send. YouTube Help states that “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can replace the picture, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. If you have a license for third-party material, check whether the rights holder must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for live streaming to proceed reliably.
YouTube also says live content must comply with its Community Guidelines. Do not describe a story, recording, image, or music as “copyright-free” just because you created or commissioned it; verify the relevant rights and permissions instead.

Create the stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create, then Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or use Manage to schedule one. Set the title, description, and visibility. If the audiobook is directed at children, set its audience to Made for Kids in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream. In the encoder, enter the URL as the streaming destination and the key as the credential. A stream key is password-like: do not publish or share it, and reset it if you think it has been exposed.
Choose and configure an encoder
YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders. A physical encoder is optional; YouTube says creators do not need expensive equipment to get started. Choose based on the equipment you already have, how you plan to automate and monitor the broadcast, and whether your production needs justify dedicated hardware. YouTube does not identify one approach or a particular encoder model as best for a 24/7 audiobook channel.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Approach | What to account for | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | Runs on a computer, so the computer, encoder software, and network must remain stable for the stream to continue. | When an existing computer and software workflow meet your production and monitoring needs. |
| Hardware encoder | Uses a dedicated device, so its capabilities and configuration matter. A purchase may be relevant, but is not required to begin. | When production complexity, automation, inputs, or redundancy make dedicated hardware worthwhile. |
Set the picture, sound, and network deliberately
Use the video and audio settings supported by your encoder and YouTube’s current guidance for the selected stream. The source guidance here does not establish a single bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval that suits every audiobook feed, so do not treat one set of numbers as universal. Check that the encoder’s output matches the program you prepared and that the audio is clear at the receiving end.

Your available upload bandwidth must exceed the combined bitrate of the primary and backup feeds. YouTube recommends about 20% additional upload headroom over that combined total. Account for other devices sharing the connection, since they can reduce the bandwidth actually available to the encoder.
Test the feed before launching it
- Set up the encoder well ahead of the public start and run an unlisted test stream.
- Start the encoder and wait for the feed preview in Live Control Room. Confirm that the correct video and audio arrive before making the broadcast public.
- Open the watch page on a separate device, including a phone, and check that playback and sound work there.
- Test your restart or failover procedure. If you use a backup feed, verify the encoder’s failover behavior rather than assuming it will work.
- Confirm that any local recording is being saved and can be played back. Monitor sound and picture during the broadcast, not just at startup.
YouTube’s setup advice supports testing and monitoring, but does not certify a 24/7 uptime design or name an automation vendor. Treat continuous operation as an ongoing operating task, not a guarantee made by selecting a particular encoder.

Set expectations for a Made for Kids livestream
YouTube says creators are responsible for choosing the audience for their content, and that stories and other subject matter intended to target children are likely Made for Kids. Make the selection in Live Control Room for the livestream rather than assuming the channel’s other settings will cover it.
Made for Kids livestreams lose features including live chat, chat donations, comments, reminder notifications, and personalized advertising, among other restrictions. Do not promise chat or reminders as part of the broadcast experience. YouTube says personalized ads are not served on kids content, which may reduce revenue for some creators; these rules alone do not establish whether a particular channel is eligible for monetization or what it might earn.

Plan session boundaries if you need archives or rewind
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast therefore is not a dependable way to preserve a complete YouTube archive. If viewers need to revisit each broadcast, plan tested session boundaries before the 12-hour threshold and keep local recordings as a backup.
DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on very long streams. Do not promise viewers a complete rewind experience for a continuous feed; verify what playback is available on the watch page.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The stream does not appear in Live Control Room. | The channel may not yet be eligible, or first-time livestream enablement may still be processing. | Check verification and livestream restrictions, and allow up to 24 hours for initial enablement. |
| The encoder connects, but the preview is missing or wrong. | The stream URL or key may be incorrect, or the encoder may be sending the wrong program. | Compare the encoder destination and key with the current stream in Studio, then check the encoder’s selected video and audio sources. |
| The stream stutters or drops. | Available upload capacity may be insufficient, especially if the connection is shared or a backup feed adds bitrate. | Check actual available upload bandwidth against the combined bitrate of primary and backup feeds; restore the recommended 20% headroom and test again. |
| The picture is replaced or the broadcast is interrupted. | A live copyright scan may have matched third-party content. | Review the material and rights records for music, images, recordings, or other included content. If licensed material is involved, confirm whether the rights holder needs to allowlist your channel for live use. |
| A long session has no complete archive or expected rewind. | YouTube may not capture streams over 12 hours, and DVR may be limited on very long streams. | Use shorter planned sessions when YouTube archives matter, and retain a local recording. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your audiobook is prepared as an uploaded video, StreamNeo is an alternative to keeping an encoder computer running at home: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it streams to YouTube and does not broadcast from a camera. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. The uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month.
