To run a 24/7 YouTube bhajan stream from your own computer, load rights-cleared audio or video files into OBS Studio’s VLC Video source, turn on Loop Playlist, and connect OBS to a YouTube encoder broadcast. The playlist will repeat when it ends, but that alone cannot keep the computer, internet connection, encoder, or YouTube stream online continuously.
What you need before setup
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified, must have had no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check access before preparing the broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance
- OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. The source is documented for Windows, macOS, and Linux. OBS Media Sources
- Bhajan files and artwork you are allowed to broadcast. A devotional song’s theme, or the fact that it is publicly available online, does not prove that you have permission to rebroadcast a particular recording or image.
- A plan to monitor the stream. The computer must remain powered on, OBS must keep encoding, and the local internet connection and YouTube ingest must remain available. Check YouTube Studio’s live dashboard after connecting.
Prepare a bhajan playlist that is safe to broadcast
Confirm rights to each recording and image
Use recordings and artwork that you created, licensed for this use, or otherwise have permission to livestream. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can cause YouTube to replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed material may be interrupted unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. If a stream is interrupted, review YouTube Studio’s warning and resolve the rights issue; for licensed third-party material, ask the owner about allowlisting your channel.

Choose a playlist order
Use a fixed order if you want a predictable sequence for listeners—for example, an opening prayer, longer bhajans, and a closing segment. OBS also offers shuffle; enable it only if randomized playback suits the program. Test the actual files in the intended order before going live.
Decide how to handle audience settings
Review the broadcast’s audience designation before starting. YouTube says that marking a live stream as made for kids disables some live features, including live chat and live chat replay, and disables personalized ads on live streams. See YouTube’s guidance on avoiding restrictions on live streaming.

Set up the VLC playlist in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. Match their architecture: for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC. If the VLC Video source does not appear in OBS, check that VLC is installed and that the architectures match.
- Create a scene. In OBS, create a scene for the bhajan broadcast. Add any other visual elements you intend to show, such as a still image or a title, and confirm the scene looks intentional in the preview.
- Add a VLC Video source. In the scene’s Sources panel, add VLC Video. Add the local media files you have rights to broadcast to that source’s playlist. OBS uses VLC libraries for this source’s extended media support.
- Enable looping. In the VLC Video source properties, turn on Loop Playlist. OBS documents this option as restarting the source after it runs out of media; it is enabled by default, but verify it rather than assuming. Keep shuffle off for a fixed sequence, or enable it if you want playback order randomized.
- Check playback and sound. Preview the scene and confirm the files play, the picture is appropriate, and the audio is audible. Verify the source’s visibility behavior and audio track. Let the playlist reach its end during testing if practical, so you can confirm that it starts again.
- Keep OBS available during the broadcast. A looping playlist repeats its media; it does not restart a failed computer, repair an internet outage, or guarantee that the encoder stays connected.
OBS lists the VLC Video source and its playlist properties in its media-source documentation. The available documentation does not establish a universal computer specification or bandwidth minimum for every playlist and encoder configuration. Base equipment choices on the media and settings you actually use, and check stream health in YouTube Studio.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or schedule an encoder broadcast in YouTube Studio. Choose YouTube’s encoder workflow, rather than treating a playlist on your channel as the broadcast itself.
- Connect OBS using YouTube’s stream settings. Use the stream settings YouTube provides for the broadcast. Treat the stream key as a secret: do not show it in a scene, screenshot, or public post, and replace it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Inspect the preview and health indicators. Confirm that YouTube receives the intended picture and sound. Watch for stream-health warnings before inviting viewers.
- Start the broadcast when ready. Keep the OBS session and computer running, and monitor the YouTube live dashboard for connection or content warnings.
YouTube distinguishes a broadcast—the event viewers watch—from a stream, the audio-video transmission bound to it. Its Live API guide describes a 24/7 live-feed use case, but that does not make a particular desktop encoder session fault-proof. See YouTube’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.

What “24/7” does—and does not—mean
Looping keeps media cycling, not the service online
Loop Playlist restarts the source after its media runs out. It does not guarantee uptime for your computer, power, network, OBS, or YouTube ingest. For a local setup, someone needs to monitor the machine and connection and be ready to recover the broadcast if it drops.

A live broadcast and an archive are separate concerns
Do not assume a single 24-hour session will produce a complete replay. YouTube’s documentation cited here does not establish an archive-duration or full-archive guarantee for one continuous session. If preserving the full program matters, plan separate recording and archive handling, then verify current YouTube behavior before relying on a replay.

Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video is missing in OBS: Install VLC, then confirm that its architecture matches OBS. OBS documents that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC for the source.
- The playlist stops at the last item: Open the VLC Video source properties and check Loop Playlist. Preview the source and confirm it reaches the end of the list normally.
- The stream is interrupted by a rights match: Check YouTube Studio for a warning and resolve the rights issue. If you have a license for third-party content, ask the rights owner to add your channel to the Content ID allowlist.
- The broadcast drops unexpectedly: Check OBS’s encoder status, local media playback, computer power, network connectivity, and YouTube Studio’s status. Arrange an operator or alerting process to notice and recover interruptions.
- Live features are unavailable: Check channel restrictions and the broadcast’s audience settings. A made-for-kids designation disables some live features, as described in YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.
- The playlist plays, but viewers hear no audio: Recheck the VLC source’s audio track and OBS’s scene preview, then confirm the audio reaches YouTube’s preview before going live.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer and home connection to host the broadcast, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
