You can keep VALORANT gameplay live on YouTube around the clock with an encoder-based setup, but do not assume one 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete YouTube archive. YouTube’s production guidance says streams up to 12 hours are automatically archived and advises recording longer streams for manual upload. For footage you need to retain, make a separate local recording and plan how to upload it.
What you need to decide first
A gameplay broadcast and its archive are separate jobs. YouTube’s encoder workflow can carry the game and overlays to a live broadcast; archive retention beyond the platform’s stated 12-hour threshold needs its own plan. This is workflow guidance, not a tested hardware, internet connection or stream setup.

- Live access: YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- Encoder: YouTube identifies encoders as suitable for gameplay and overlays. Choose and configure an encoder you trust; the official guidance referenced here does not verify a particular application.
- Archive: Decide whether a local recording and later manual upload are needed to preserve coverage beyond 12 hours.
- Operations: Arrange monitoring and a response to power, internet or encoder interruptions. The available YouTube guidance does not establish a seamless restart mechanism for a stream running longer than 12 hours.
Prepare the YouTube broadcast
- Verify live access. Check the channel’s live-streaming eligibility in YouTube Studio before building a schedule. If access is unavailable or restricted, resolve that first; an encoder cannot bypass channel restrictions.
- Create the stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and set the title, description, privacy and thumbnail. Current interface labels can change, so follow the labels displayed in your Studio account.
- Copy the stream key into your encoder. Use the key associated with the intended broadcast. Keep it private: do not share it in screenshots, chat, descriptions or public documents. Anyone with the key may be able to send video to that stream.
- Test privately or as unlisted. Start the encoder and confirm that the Live Control Room preview shows the intended game and that game audio, microphone audio and overlays are correct. YouTube’s production guide recommends private or unlisted settings when you are not actually broadcasting publicly.
- Start the public broadcast deliberately. Once the preview is correct, start the broadcast in the Live Control Room using the on-screen go-live control. Starting the encoder alone is not the same as confirming that the public broadcast has begun.
Plan a genuine 24/7 operation
A single active broadcast is within the limits listed on YouTube’s live-streaming limits page: up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, with both limits applying concurrently. These are concurrency caps, not an uptime promise or evidence that a single stream will run indefinitely.

- Plan for computer, encoder, power and internet interruptions. The official material cited here does not document a guaranteed automatic restart workflow for streams exceeding 12 hours.
- Do a private or unlisted test before the scheduled public session, especially after changing the encoder, key or audio routing.
- Keep the stream key confidential and know how to replace it in YouTube Studio and the encoder if it is exposed.
Keep the full gameplay archive
Google’s production guide says streams up to 12 hours are automatically turned into on-demand videos and advises recording streams longer than 12 hours for manual upload. It does not establish that a single 24-hour session will become one complete, uninterrupted VOD or specify a current restart procedure for longer broadcasts. Treat the 12-hour guidance as the archive boundary to plan around, not as a guarantee for a 24/7 session.

- Record locally while streaming if complete footage matters. Check that the recording actually starts and that its audio and video are usable.
- Estimate storage from your own recording. Record a short sample, note its file size and duration, then scale that rate to the retention period you need. The available platform guidance does not specify a suitable storage capacity.
- Arrange manual uploads for longer footage. Keep the local files until you have confirmed the intended footage is available in the place you need it.
- Check the archive and notices after each session. A visible live broadcast does not establish that the entire recording was retained or that it is free of later copyright claims.
Copyright, music and VALORANT footage
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a broadcast. As YouTube puts it, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” Archived streams may receive Content ID claims after the stream ends if they are archived. A live session and its resulting VOD therefore have distinct copyright risks.
For background music, Riot’s Creator-Safe Playlist is the safer option under Riot’s published conditions. Riot says its listed songs may be used in player-created content and streams, including monetized streams, subject to its guidelines; it does not guarantee that songs outside the list are safe. Use a song currently listed and follow the associated credit and other requirements. Check Riot’s Creator-Safe Playlist and guidelines before using music.

Check YouTube Studio after a live session for copyright or policy notices. A clean preview does not establish that a VOD will remain claim-free.
For prerecorded gameplay rather than live play
If the intended broadcast is a loop of uploaded, prerecorded footage—not a live VALORANT session—a cloud service may fit that different use case. An encoder-based gameplay setup does not by itself prove that you need to buy a new PC. A streaming PC is an equipment category to consider if your existing system cannot run the game, encode it and make the local recording you require; the sources cited here establish no recommended specifications or hardware model. Also account for the storage you measure for local recordings and the operational effort of monitoring a continuous broadcast.
