You can run a 24/7 lo-fi radio channel on YouTube by verifying your channel, clearing the rights to every recording and composition, then sending a continuous music-and-visual feed through a software or hardware encoder. Before launch, plan how you will manage stream breaks: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so do not assume one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will be saved as a single automatic archive.
Before you start: eligibility, music rights and a continuity plan
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its general live-streaming guidance sets a minimum age of 16. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your intended launch. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.

Clear both the recording and the composition
A music track involves at least two distinct rights questions: permission for the sound recording and permission for the underlying composition. YouTube’s live-stream terms say the provider must hold the rights needed to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The terms also refer to public-performance licenses. Read the YouTube livestream terms and conditions and obtain permissions that actually cover your planned uses.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11- Check that the permission covers live streaming, not only personal listening or use in an edited video.
- Check whether it also covers the replay/archive, territories, duration and monetization you intend.
- Ask whether your YouTube channel must be added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. YouTube says licensed third-party content may still interrupt a live stream if the channel is not allowlisted.
- Keep records of licenses and any written allowlist confirmation. A generic “royalty-free” label by itself does not establish that all relevant rights and uses are covered.
These are practical checks, not a determination of which Indian licenses apply to a particular repertoire. That depends on the tracks, rights holders and uses; confirm it with the relevant rights holders or qualified counsel before broadcasting.

Decide how to handle archives and restarts
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not establish that a continuous 24-hour stream will be preserved as one automatic archive. If you want a replay, plan a stream schedule and breaks that fit the stated archive rule, and test the resulting archive. Also decide who or what will notice an encoder failure and restart the broadcast; a YouTube connection alone is not proof that a feed will stay uninterrupted.
Choose an encoder route
YouTube documents both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. Neither category is established as necessary or inherently more reliable for this setup. Choose based on your production workflow, budget, maintenance capacity and how you will monitor and recover the feed. For a prerecorded playlist with a simple visual, software may be enough; hardware is an option when it suits an existing production setup. Do not buy hardware on the assumption that it grants music rights or guarantees continuous operation. See YouTube’s encoder options.

Set up the YouTube live stream
- Enable live streaming. Verify the channel and activate live streaming in advance. Wait for activation if this is the channel’s first time going live.
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create a stream or schedule it for a later time. Set the title, description, visibility and other stream details that suit your channel in Live Control Room. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance covers stream configuration and options such as auto-start and auto-stop.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Enter these in the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen or share it with people who do not need access. Reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Prepare the feed. Add your lo-fi playlist and any visual loop in the encoder. Confirm that the selected audio and video sources are active and that the playlist can continue through the planned broadcast period.
- Start the encoder output and inspect the preview. Once YouTube receives the feed, check Live Control Room’s preview for the correct picture, sound and stream. For a scheduled stream, select Go live when you are ready to publish it.
- Verify the public viewing experience. Open the watch page and channel as a viewer, and check playback on a phone as well as your main device before treating the setup as ready.
Test the channel before making it continuous
Run a private or otherwise appropriate test stream before announcing a permanent schedule. YouTube recommends checking the preview, watch page and mobile access, plus the archive file and audio/video quality. Include these checks in your launch process and repeat them after changing the playlist, encoder or stream configuration. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Listen for silence, abrupt cuts, clipping or a playlist that stops at the end.
- Check that the visual and audio remain synchronized and that the correct stream appears on the intended watch page.
- Confirm the archive behaves as expected for the stream length you tested.
- Have a monitoring and restart plan for the hours when the channel is meant to be live.
YouTube also documents HLS ingestion for supported encoders. It is an optional protocol route, not a requirement for the ordinary encoder workflow above. Its HLS setup guidance specifies 1–4 second segments, TS segment format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. Use it only if your encoder workflow calls for HLS; see YouTube’s HLS setup instructions.

Common problems and what to check
The channel cannot go live
Check verification and whether the channel has a live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
Confirm that the encoder has the correct YouTube server URL and current stream key, then check that its output is actually running. If the key was reset, update the encoder with the replacement key.

The stream is interrupted after music begins
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream, and continued content may lead to interruption or termination. For licensed third-party tracks, contact the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent an interruption if that step is required. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe 24-hour broadcast is not one archive
YouTube’s stated automatic archive rule applies to streams under 12 hours. Plan breaks or separate broadcasts if you need archives, and test the result rather than assuming a longer continuous stream will be saved as one replay.

The picture or sound is missing or poor
Inspect the encoder’s active inputs and the Live Control Room preview. Check the public watch page and mobile playback, and test audio/video continuity before the next scheduled run. If you change the source or configuration, repeat the checks instead of assuming the earlier test still applies.
