To get a Twitch alert when The Game Awards starts, follow the event’s official Twitch broadcaster or an authorized co-streamer, then open Settings → Notifications → Manage Channel Notifications. Set that channel to Always for every alert or Go Live Only for the broadcast-start alert. Turn on the Live category for your chosen delivery method, and allow Twitch notifications in your phone’s operating-system settings.
The same setup works for esports finals, showcases, premieres, charity streams and other scheduled broadcasts. Following a channel and choosing its notification mode are separate controls, so following alone does not guarantee an alert.

What you need to configure
Twitch has several independent notification controls. The channel must be followed, a channel-level mode must be selected, the Live category must be enabled for at least one destination, and the device or email account must permit delivery. Twitch may then use Smart Delivery to decide where to send the alert.
- Correct channel: the official event broadcaster or a co-streamer authorized by the event.
- Channel mode: Always, Go Live Only, Personalized or Off.
- Category: enable Live under On Twitch, Mobile or Email, depending on where you want the message.
- Device permission: your phone or computer must allow Twitch notifications.
- Email eligibility: your Twitch email address must be verified before email alerts can arrive.
These checks are independent. Correcting only one does not repair a different disabled control.

Choose the right channel for The Game Awards
Follow the official broadcaster or an authorized co-streamer
The Game Awards is an event rather than a permanent notification setting. Twitch announced the 2025 edition as live on Twitch and said viewers could co-stream it. For a future edition, use the current official event announcement to identify the broadcaster and the co-streamers permitted for that year. Their availability and names can change between editions.
Open the channel page and select Follow. If Twitch shows a bell control, use it to choose the channel’s notification mode directly. If you cannot find a current event channel, do not rely on an old result: search for the latest official announcement and follow the channel listed there.
Follow more than one legitimate option when necessary
If you want a choice of commentary or a backup stream, follow the official broadcaster and any authorized co-streamers you may watch. Configure each channel separately. A setting applied to one broadcaster does not automatically apply to another.

The channel mode controls which activity can trigger a notification. Twitch’s documented choices are summarized below.

Twitch documents Personalized as the default behavior. It can suppress an alert based on how you watch, so it is a poor choice if you must know when The Game Awards begins. Select Always for the broadest coverage or Go Live Only when the start time is the only information you need.
Set notifications on a computer
- Sign in to Twitch. Use the account that follows the official broadcaster or co-streamer.
- Open the notification page. Select your profile menu, choose Settings, then open Notifications.
- Expand channel management. Open Manage Channel Notifications to see followed channels and their current modes.
- Find the event channel. Locate the official event broadcaster or the authorized co-streamer you intend to watch. If it is missing, return to the channel page, follow it, and reopen the list.
- Choose the mode. Select Always for every channel alert or Go Live Only for a start-of-stream alert. Do not leave the channel on Personalized when certainty is important.
- Set delivery categories. Review the sections for On Twitch, Mobile and Email. In each destination you want to use, make sure Live is enabled.
- Check Smart Delivery. Decide whether Twitch should choose one active destination or whether all enabled destinations should be considered. The Smart Delivery behavior is explained below.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 for every legitimate broadcaster you want covered. A channel-level selection and a destination category are different settings; both must permit the alert.

Set notifications in the Twitch mobile app
- Open Twitch and tap your profile or display icon.
- Go to Account Settings → Notifications → Manage Channel Notifications.
- Tap the event broadcaster or co-streamer.
- Select Always or Go Live Only, according to whether you want all activity or only the broadcast start.
- If the channel page exposes a bell control, you can use it as an alternate route to the same channel setting.
- Return to the notification categories and ensure Live is enabled for Mobile or another destination you plan to use.
- Open your phone’s system settings and allow notifications for the Twitch app. A Twitch setting cannot override an operating-system block.
Menu names can vary slightly by app release, but the account, notification and channel-management path is the relevant sequence. If email is part of your backup plan, verify the email address attached to your Twitch account.

On Twitch
An onsite notification appears inside Twitch when the service detects activity for a channel and the Live category is enabled under On Twitch. This is useful when you are already using Twitch in a browser or app, but it does not by itself guarantee a phone push notification.
Mobile push
Mobile delivery requires both the Twitch Mobile → Live category and permission in the phone’s operating-system settings. If either is disabled, the app may remain silent even though the channel is set to Always or Go Live Only.
Email delivery requires the Email → Live category and a verified Twitch email address. Check the account’s verification status before treating a missing message as a channel problem.
Smart Delivery
Twitch can use Smart Delivery to send one alert to the place where it detects that you are active. For example, it may choose an onsite alert instead of a push or email. This behavior is separate from the channel mode.
If you want every enabled destination considered rather than having Twitch select one active location, disable Smart Delivery in Twitch notification settings. Twitch Help describes the control as a radio button under Smart Delivery in the Notifications Settings page. After changing it, keep the relevant Live categories enabled for each destination you want to receive.

Prepare for The Game Awards before the broadcast
Confirm the event source
Use the current year’s official event communication to identify the permitted Twitch broadcaster or co-streamers. A previous year’s channel may not carry the next edition, and co-streaming permissions can change.
Verify the channel setting
Open Manage Channel Notifications and confirm that the selected channel displays Always or Go Live Only, rather than Personalized or Off.
Verify the Live category
Check the exact destination you plan to watch. If you expect a phone push, inspect Mobile → Live; if you expect an email, inspect Email → Live. Enabling a different category does not substitute for Live.
Verify the phone and email independently
On the phone, allow Twitch notifications at the operating-system level. For email, confirm that the Twitch address is verified. These checks are useful before the event because changing them after a missed alert cannot recover that notification.

The channel is followed, but the mode is Personalized
Following only establishes the relationship with the channel. Twitch can still skip alerts under Personalized. Open channel management and change the broadcaster to Always or Go Live Only.
The channel is set to Off
Off disables notifications for that channel. Select a different mode and confirm the change before closing settings.

The Live category is disabled
A channel mode does not automatically activate every delivery category. In Notifications, inspect On Twitch, Mobile and Email, then enable Live for the destination that failed.

If you received an onsite alert but no push or email, Twitch may have detected that you were active on Twitch and selected that location. Disable Smart Delivery when you want all enabled destinations considered, then keep each desired Live category enabled.
The phone blocked Twitch
Open the phone’s operating-system notification settings and allow Twitch. This permission is outside Twitch’s account settings, so changing the channel mode alone cannot fix it.
The email address is not verified
Email alerts require a verified Twitch email address. Complete verification, then confirm that Email → Live remains enabled. Without verification, changing Smart Delivery or the channel mode will not make email eligible.
You followed the wrong broadcaster
Event channels and authorized co-streamer lists can change each year. Recheck the current official event announcement and configure the channel identified for the edition you plan to watch.
You expected a start alert from a non-live update
Go Live Only is intentionally limited to the start of a live broadcast. VOD and clip activity requires Always. Choose the mode that matches the event information you want, rather than treating the absence of a VOD or clip alert as a delivery failure.
Using the same method for other live events
Esports finals and tournaments
Find the official Twitch broadcaster or an authorized co-streamer listed by the event organizer. Follow each channel you might watch, set the channel mode, and enable Live for your chosen destination.
Showcases and premieres
Because these broadcasts often have a single opening moment, Go Live Only is usually the less noisy choice. Use Always if you also want subsequent VOD or clip notifications from that channel.
Charity streams
Apply the same channel-by-channel procedure. If several participating channels are legitimate sources, configure each one rather than assuming one follow covers the entire event.

How Twitch’s notification guarantee should be interpreted
Twitch’s product announcement says selecting Always guarantees all notifications for a channel, including Go Live, VOD and clip notifications. That statement describes the channel setting’s completeness; it does not remove the need to enable a delivery category, grant phone permission or verify an email address.
Similarly, disabling Smart Delivery changes how Twitch considers destinations. It does not turn on a disabled Live category, change a channel from Personalized, or identify the correct broadcaster for a yearly event.
