First identify the watch’s model name or module number, then open the matching Casio operation guide. “Casio Vintage digital watch” covers many modules with different button layouts and setting sequences. The instructions for one module can be wrong for another, so do not start by trying a generic button combination.
This model check is not just a formality. Casio’s Vintage range includes watches whose mode controls, adjustment buttons, alarm selection and confirmation indicators differ. The same-looking case does not guarantee the same internal module. Treat the exact identifier as the starting point for both timekeeping and alarm setup.

Why the module number matters
Casio Vintage is a family of digital watches, not one single control system. The buttons may have different letters, perform different jobs, or require different hold-and-press sequences depending on the module inside the case. Even alarm setup differs between Casio’s module 1534 and module 3569 guides.

A procedure that works on module 1534 should not be transplanted to a different Vintage model simply because the cases look similar.

A wrong sequence may do more than fail to change the intended field. It can move the watch to another mode, select a different alarm, or leave you unsure whether the alarm is enabled. When a display does not respond as the guide shows, the first suspicion should be an identification mismatch, not a need to press harder or try additional combinations.
Find your model name or module number
- Read the identifier shown on the watch or in its paperwork. Record the model name exactly as printed. If a module number is provided, record every digit; a single-digit difference can point to a different guide. Keep punctuation, letters and hyphens when they appear in the model name.
- Open Casio’s official US manual lookup. Casio labels the search function “Search by Model Name/Module Number.” The lookup provides user manuals, operation guides, and other manuals. This is preferable to relying on a generic button chart or an image for a visually similar watch.
- Search using one identifier at a time. Start with the complete model name. If that does not return the correct document, search by the module number instead. Searching both ways can help distinguish a product name from the module used inside it.
- Check the guide’s first page and diagrams. Confirm that the button letters, display layout, and watch description match your watch before pressing anything. The number in a search result is not enough by itself; the illustrated controls must also agree.
If the guide’s button diagram does not match the watch in your hand, stop and verify the model or module number. Do not “try the closest-looking” sequence. A near match can be especially misleading when two watches have the same number of buttons but assign different functions to them.
Save or keep the matching guide open while working. You may need to check the mode map, the meaning of a flashing field and the alarm-status display more than once. The guide is the reference for the exact order; the workflow below explains how to use it without guessing.

There is no single, verified time-setting sequence for every Casio Vintage module. Use this workflow to apply the instructions in your matching guide without guessing:
- Open the guide’s Timekeeping section. Look for the heading that explains how to enter time-setting mode and how the display indicates that a field is ready to edit. Read the mode map first if the guide provides one, so you know which screen represents ordinary timekeeping.
- Enter the mode exactly as shown. Some modules use a mode button, while others may require a particular press or hold. Use the button labels in your guide, not labels copied from another model. A button that changes modes on one module can have a different role on another.
- Identify the flashing field. The guide will specify whether the hour, minute, seconds, date, or another field flashes first. A flashing field is the watch’s indication that it can be changed. If nothing flashes, you may still be in the display mode rather than the setting mode.
- Adjust the flashing value with the documented controls. Follow the guide for increasing, decreasing, or cycling values. Do not assume that the same button changes a value on every module, or that holding a button has the same effect as pressing it briefly.
- Move through the remaining fields in the stated order. Use the guide’s advance or select control to reach each field, then apply the specified adjustment control. Let the display confirm each transition before changing the next value.
- Exit and verify. Complete the guide’s save or exit action, return to the normal time display, and check that the hour and minute show the intended values. If the display or button behavior differs from the guide, return to the identifier check rather than continuing by trial and error.
Work deliberately when a field is flashing. Changing the wrong field can leave the time apparently correct while another setting, such as a date or seconds value, has changed unexpectedly. The guide’s labels tell you what the flashing position represents and which control advances to the next position.
The available documentation reviewed for this topic does not provide one complete, model-specific time-setting sequence that can safely be presented as universal. Your watch’s matching guide is the authority for the exact buttons and order. A general method can keep the process organized, but it cannot replace those module-specific commands.
General method for setting an alarm
Alarm controls also vary by module. Once you have the correct guide, use its Alarm section and work through the following concepts in the order Casio specifies:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Enter Alarm Mode. The guide’s mode map will identify the display used for alarms. Some watches have one alarm; others require you to select an alarm number. Do not begin editing until the display is clearly the alarm screen.
- Select the alarm, if the module provides more than one. Do this before beginning the edit if the guide calls for it. Selecting the wrong number can make a correctly entered time appear to be missing later.
- Start alarm setting with the documented hold action. The guide will state which button to hold and what visual change confirms that setting has begun. The appearance of flashing digits is often the confirmation, but rely on the indication shown for your module.
- Set the hour and minute fields. Adjust each flashing field with only the controls assigned by that module’s guide. Follow the stated direction and field-advance action rather than borrowing controls from another Vintage procedure.
- Complete the setting and check the alarm status. Some modules turn the alarm on as soon as setting starts; others have a separate status control. Confirm the indicator shown in the guide before leaving Alarm Mode.
After completing the alarm, remain on the alarm display long enough to verify the selected number, programmed time and status indication. If the guide distinguishes several alarms or status symbols, check the exact one you intended to change. A time appearing on the screen does not by itself establish that the alarm is enabled.
Do not infer an alarm-on or alarm-off state from a procedure written for a different module. The confirmation indicator and completion action belong to the individual guide. If the alarm is not behaving as expected, repeat the identifier check before attempting another edit.

Module 1534: a documented alarm example
The following is a module-specific example, not a universal Casio Vintage procedure. Use it only if the module number on your watch is 1534 and the guide’s diagrams match your watch.
Enter Alarm Mode
The module 1534 guide says, Press C to change from mode to mode.
Use that documented mode-control instruction to reach Alarm Mode. The guide identifies E as the display-light button; do not treat E as the mode or alarm-setting control simply because it is a prominent button.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Move through the displays carefully and stop when the alarm screen shown in the module 1534 guide appears. The purpose of checking the screen is to ensure that the next hold action is being applied in the correct mode, not merely to make the watch show a different display.
Begin alarm setting
In Alarm Mode, hold A until the hour digits flash. According to the module 1534 guide, this begins alarm setting and automatically turns the alarm on. That automatic activation is an important module-specific behavior: starting the edit is also the point at which the guide says the alarm becomes enabled.
Continue with the guide’s controls
After the hour digits begin flashing, follow the remaining module 1534 instructions for changing the hour, moving to the minute field, and finishing the setting. The available guide excerpt establishes the entry action and automatic alarm activation, but it does not justify replacing the rest of the sequence with a generic button recipe. Keep the guide open while you complete the fields.
Do not assume that the display-light button E changes the value or advances a field. The guide specifically identifies E as the light control in this example, while C is identified for changing modes. Use the control assignment printed in the module 1534 instructions for every subsequent step.
Verify the result
Return to the alarm display using the module 1534 instructions and confirm both the programmed time and the alarm-on indication. If A, C, or E behaves differently from the guide, stop and verify that the watch is actually module 1534. Do not continue on the theory that a button has simply been unresponsive.
Module 3569: why its procedure cannot be copied
The module 3569 guide documents a different alarm-setting flow. It includes selecting an alarm number, holding A to begin editing, adjusting values with B and D, and completing the setting with the guide’s specified finishing action.
Those controls demonstrate the practical problem with universal instructions: module 3569 uses a selectable alarm and names B and D as adjustment controls, while the module 1534 example establishes a different set of documented actions. If your watch is module 3569, follow its guide from the alarm-selection step through completion. If your watch is neither module, use neither sequence.

In particular, do not copy the module 3569 B-and-D adjustment step onto a watch whose guide does not assign those buttons the same job. Likewise, do not assume that beginning an edit turns the alarm on in the same way as module 1534. The differences are exactly why the module number must be identified first.

| Module | Documented alarm workflow | Controls specifically identified in the guide excerpts |
|---|---|---|
| 1534 | Enter Alarm Mode; hold A until the hour digits flash; this starts alarm setting and automatically turns the alarm on. | C changes modes; E is identified as the display-light button. |
| 3569 | Select an alarm number; hold A; adjust the setting with B and D; complete the procedure as directed by the module 3569 guide. | B and D are used for adjustment in the documented alarm procedure. |
The table is a comparison of the cited module guides, not a ranking of watches and not a substitute for identifying your own module. It is useful for seeing why two authentic Casio procedures can look different. It is not a shortcut for a watch whose module number has not been confirmed.
What to do when the buttons do not match
The watch enters the wrong mode
Recheck the module number and reopen the matching guide. A mode button that cycles displays on one module may have another role on a different module. Compare the guide’s button labels and mode map with the physical watch before trying again.
The expected digits do not flash
Cancel the attempt and start again from the guide’s stated mode. Confirm that you are holding the documented button for the required duration and that the display is the one shown in the diagram. Do not keep pressing random buttons to force a change. If the expected flashing field never appears, treat that as evidence that the mode or guide may be wrong.
The guide mentions a control your watch does not have
This is a strong sign that the guide is for another module or model variant. Return to Casio’s manual lookup and search by the other identifier—model name if you first searched by module, or module number if you first searched by model. Do not reinterpret a nearby button as the missing control.
The alarm time is set but the status is unclear
Use the alarm-status explanation in the matching guide. Module 1534, for example, automatically turns the alarm on when the hour digits begin flashing; that behavior should not be assumed for another module. For any other module, find the guide’s own explanation of the indicator and completion action.
You cannot find a matching manual
Check the spelling and all digits in the identifier, then try the alternate search route in Casio’s lookup. If the result still does not match the button layout, do not use a near match. The correct module guide is more useful than a generic Vintage tutorial. Keep the watch unchanged until the identifier and diagram agree.
The watch appears to accept a value but returns to an unexpected display
Reopen the guide and verify the documented exit or completion action. Different modules can use different ways to leave a setting screen, and a mode change is not necessarily the same as saving an edit. Confirm the final time or alarm screen after completing the stated action.
Model-specific support and maintenance
Casio’s support page identifies the A168WA-1 as a CASIO VINTAGE model and provides support categories for battery replacement and band topics. Those categories do not establish which replacement battery, band, tool, price, or retailer is compatible with a particular watch. Use the model-specific support information rather than assuming that parts or maintenance instructions for another Vintage model will fit.

The A168WA-1 name is therefore useful as a product-identification example, not as a universal tutorial label. If your watch is an A168WA-1, still confirm the module and open the corresponding guide before applying any button sequence. Support topics can help you locate maintenance information, but they do not replace the operation guide for setting the display.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use one Casio Vintage alarm tutorial for every model?
No. Casio Vintage includes multiple modules with different controls. Module 1534 and module 3569 document different alarm workflows, so identify your model name or module number and use the matching Casio guide.
Where should I search for the manual?
Use Casio’s official US manual lookup. Its search label is “Search by Model Name/Module Number,” and it provides user manuals, operation guides and other manuals. Search by the complete model name first, then try the module number if necessary.
What if my watch looks like the example but has different button letters?
Do not use the example. Button labels and assignments are module-specific. Check the identifier and compare the guide’s diagrams with the watch before pressing any setting control.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What is the documented module 1534 alarm start action?
For module 1534 only, enter Alarm Mode and hold A until the hour digits flash. The guide says this begins alarm setting and automatically turns the alarm on. Continue with the rest of the module 1534 guide rather than treating this as a complete universal recipe.
Which buttons does the module 1534 guide identify?
It states, “Press C to change from mode to mode,” and identifies E as the display-light button. Those assignments apply to the module 1534 example and should not be transferred to another module.
How does module 3569 differ?
The module 3569 procedure includes selecting an alarm number, holding A, adjusting with B and D, and completing the setting as its guide directs. That is a different flow from the documented module 1534 example.
Why do the digits need to flash?
The flashing field is the watch’s indication that a value is ready to edit. Your matching guide specifies which field flashes first and how to move to the next one. If the expected field does not flash, stop and recheck the mode and module.
Does starting the alarm edit always turn the alarm on?
No universal assumption is safe. Module 1534’s guide says the alarm turns on when the hour digits begin flashing, but another module may use a separate status control. Check the alarm-status explanation for your own module.

Can Casio’s A168WA-1 support page tell me which battery or band to buy?
It lists battery-replacement and band-support topics, but those categories do not establish a compatible replacement part, tool, price or retailer. Use model-specific maintenance information and do not infer compatibility from the product family alone.
Bottom line
To set the time and alarm on a Casio Vintage digital watch, identify its model or module number first and use the corresponding Casio operation guide. Module 1534 and module 3569 show why: their alarm controls and sequences differ. If the buttons or display do not match the guide in front of you, verify the identifier before pressing anything else.
Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find the correct Casio manual?
Use Casio’s official US manual lookup, labeled “Search by Model Name/Module Number.” Search by the complete model name, then try the module number if needed.
What is the module 1534 alarm procedure?
For module 1534 only, enter Alarm Mode and hold A until the hour digits flash. Casio says this starts alarm setting and automatically turns the alarm on. Follow the rest of that module’s guide for the remaining fields.
How is module 3569 different?
Its documented alarm flow includes selecting an alarm number, holding A, adjusting with B and D, and completing the setting as directed by the module 3569 guide.
What if my buttons do not match the guide?
Stop, verify every digit of the model or module number, and search Casio’s lookup again using the alternate identifier. Do not try a near-match sequence.
Does beginning alarm setup always enable the alarm?
No. Module 1534 automatically enables it when the hour digits flash, but other modules may use a separate status control. Check your matching guide.
What does the A168WA-1 support page cover?
Casio identifies the A168WA-1 as a CASIO VINTAGE model and lists battery and band support topics. Those listings do not specify compatible parts, tools, prices or retailers.
The Bottom Line
Identify the exact Casio model or module first. Open the matching Casio guide, follow its Timekeeping and Alarm sections, and stop if the button layout or display does not match. Module 1534 and 3569 demonstrate why no single Vintage sequence is universal.
