On the JURA C9, hold the button for the drink you want to change for about two seconds, open Product settings, edit the available fields, press Save, then press the back/stop control twice. That stores the recipe for future preparations. If you only want to change one cup, adjust strength while the grinder is running or quantity while the drink is being prepared; those changes apply to that preparation without replacing the saved recipe.
The C9 separates four controls that are easy to confuse: coffee strength (the selected intensity or dose level), quantity (the water volume), temperature (brewing heat), and brewing world (Classic Hot Brew or Light Brew). The steps below show where each control is found, how permanent and temporary changes differ, and how to choose settings without accidentally changing the wrong drink.

The four settings you can change
Before opening a menu, decide which part of the drink needs to change. The C9 does not treat “stronger,” “hotter,” and “larger” as the same adjustment.

The C9 also provides seven grinder-consistency levels. That is a separate grinder adjustment, not the same control as the ten coffee-strength levels. Change it only when you specifically want to alter the grind setting; changing strength is the more direct way to make a saved drink milder or more intense.

How to save a new setting for one drink
Use the permanent procedure when you want the C9 to remember the change every time you select that product. The available fields can vary by drink, so a setting shown for one product may not appear for another.
- Start at the start screen. Locate the product button for the drink you want to edit. Choose the exact drink, not merely a similar-looking beverage.
- Open the product editor. Press and hold that product button for about two seconds. The C9 then opens the settings flow for that product.
- Select Product settings. Tap Product settings. The machine lists the fields that are available for the selected drink.
- Edit one or more fields. Select a field, use the on-screen navigation buttons to choose the desired value, and confirm that field with Save. You can work through strength, quantity, and temperature in the same visit.
- Return to the start screen. Press the back/stop control twice. The edited recipe is now the stored version for that product.
JURA’s C9 Instructions for Use describes the essential action this way: “Press a product button for two seconds and enter the preferred settings.” If you leave the editor without saving a field, treat that field as unchanged and reopen Product settings to verify it.
How to change coffee strength
Save a stronger or milder recipe
Hold the selected drink’s product button for about two seconds, choose Product settings, and select Coffee strength. Use the navigation buttons to pick one of the C9’s ten programmable strength levels, then press Save. Finish by pressing the back/stop control twice.

It changes the drink’s programmed intensity; it does not set the amount of water. If you want both a more intense taste and a smaller cup, edit strength and quantity as separate fields before leaving the editor.
Make one cup stronger without changing the saved recipe
For a one-time change, start the drink normally and use the on-screen controls while the grinder is running. Select the desired strength for that preparation. The temporary selection applies to the cup being made and does not overwrite the product’s stored setting.

This is useful when two people share the machine or when you want to test a level before committing it. If the result suits you, repeat the two-second hold procedure afterward and save that level in Product settings.
How to change coffee temperature
Temperature is a saved product setting on the C9. From the start screen, press and hold the drink’s product button for about two seconds, tap Product settings, and select Temperature. Choose one of the three available brewing-temperature levels with the navigation buttons, press Save, and press the back/stop control twice to return to the start screen.

Those controls affect intensity and water volume, respectively, so they are not substitutes for a temperature change. The C9’s three temperature levels are the complete programmable range documented for this model; the machine does not present an unlimited numeric temperature field in the described menu.
Why a drink may still feel different after changing temperature
The C9 offers two preparation worlds, and the selected world affects how the drink is prepared. A temperature selection should therefore be considered together with the brewing world setting. If the drink is being prepared as Light Brew, it is intentionally made with a reduced brewing temperature, while Classic Hot Brew uses the classic hot preparation method.
How to adjust cup size or water volume
Save a different quantity
Hold the desired product button for about two seconds and open Product settings. Select the drink’s Amount or Quantity field—the wording shown depends on the C9 interface—then use the navigation buttons to set the preferred water volume and press Save. Press the back/stop control twice to exit.

The C9 describes coffee-water quantity as individually programmable, so quantity belongs to the product recipe rather than being a single machine-wide cup-size setting. Edit the specific drink you intend to change. A larger quantity for one product does not imply that every other product has changed.

Begin preparing the drink and use the controls while it is being prepared to change quantity for that preparation. This temporary adjustment changes the current cup without replacing the saved amount. To make the new volume permanent, stop using the temporary control, return to the start screen, and save the value through the product-settings procedure.
Quantity changes water volume, not coffee strength. If a larger cup tastes less intense, adjust strength separately rather than assuming that the quantity control will add more coffee.
Classic Hot Brew and Light Brew
Classic Hot Brew
Classic Hot Brew prepares the product hot using the classic brewing method. Choose this preparation world when that method and a hot finished drink are your priority.
Light Brew
Light Brew uses less ground coffee and a reduced brewing temperature, making the drink ready to consume immediately. It is not simply a lower temperature option inside the Classic Hot Brew recipe; it is a separate preparation world with its own coffee and heat approach.

Choose or save the brewing world
The brewing-world choice is handled in Machine Settings, rather than in the individual product editor described above. The C9 can save one world as the machine’s choice, or it can be configured to ask which world to use when it starts. If the machine asks at startup, select the intended world before preparing the drink. If a world is saved, review that machine-level choice when a drink behaves differently from your expectation.
Because Light Brew deliberately uses less ground coffee and a reduced brewing temperature, changing only the product’s strength or temperature field may not produce the same result as switching worlds. Decide first whether you want a different preparation method or merely a different value within the current product recipe.

Use one change at a time when you are trying to learn what suits you. For example, save a new strength level while leaving quantity and temperature untouched; taste that result; then decide whether a second change is necessary. This makes it clear which control produced the difference.

The field is not displayed
The C9 states that available fields depend on the selected drink. Recheck that you held the correct product button for about two seconds and selected the intended product. If the field still is not listed, that drink does not expose that particular option in the product-settings screen described by the manual.

The next cup uses the old value
A change made during grinding or preparation is temporary by design. To retain it, repeat the saved-setting procedure: hold the product button, open Product settings, choose the field, press Save, and exit with the back/stop control twice. If you edited several fields, verify that each one was saved before leaving.

The machine returns to the start screen before you are finished
Open the product editor again and work through the fields in a single session. Save each selected value and use the back/stop control only after the edits are complete. The documented exit action is pressing that control twice to return to the start screen.
The drink is not as hot as expected
Check both controls that affect the preparation: the product’s saved temperature level and the brewing world selected in Machine Settings. Light Brew intentionally uses a reduced brewing temperature, whereas Classic Hot Brew uses the classic hot method. If the machine is configured to ask at startup, confirm that the intended world was chosen for that preparation.
The cup is larger but tastes weaker
Quantity controls water volume. A larger volume can therefore change the balance of the drink even though the saved strength level is unchanged. If you want the larger size and a more intense result, save the desired quantity and then select a higher coffee-strength level as a separate edit.

Understanding the C9’s adjustment limits
The documented controls provide a defined set of choices rather than arbitrary numeric inputs. There are ten programmable coffee-strength levels, three programmable brewing-temperature levels, seven grinder-consistency levels, and individually programmable coffee-water quantity. The C9 supports 17 speciality coffees, so the product button you edit is one of many drink recipes and the fields presented can vary by product.
The grinder-consistency setting is worth keeping separate from recipe strength. Strength is the user-facing intensity choice available in the product editor and during grinding. Grinder consistency changes the grinder setting itself and should be treated as a machine adjustment, not as an extra strength scale. If your immediate goal is simply “make this coffee stronger,” start with Coffee strength.
Keeping your saved recipes predictable
After changing a recipe, prepare the same product again rather than a different speciality coffee. Each product has its own stored settings, and the C9’s menu can present different fields for different products. If several people use the machine, decide whether each person should make a temporary adjustment for individual cups or save a shared recipe that everyone will receive.
When experimenting, record the choices you made in plain language—such as “higher strength, middle temperature, original quantity”—so you can return to a preferred combination. The interface saves the selected values, but it does not replace the need to know which product you edited or which brewing world was active.
Care after changing settings
Settings changes do not replace routine care. JURA identifies CLARIS Smart+ filter cartridges and 3-phase cleaning tablets as relevant C9 care products. Use the maintenance procedure and replacement intervals specified for your machine’s instructions rather than treating a taste or temperature change as a reason to alter a recipe repeatedly. A clean, correctly maintained machine gives your saved settings a more consistent starting point.
