What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Robinhood has two separate alert systems: percentage-based movement alerts for holdings or watchlists, and custom price alerts that trigger when one stock or ETF moves above or below a price you choose. To create a custom alert, open the asset’s chart, tap or click the bell-shaped Notifications icon, choose Price alerts, enter the target, and save it. To receive broad movement notices, use Account → Menu → Settings → Notifications and messages → Push Notifications.
The right choice depends on how you monitor a position. Movement alerts tell you that an asset changed by a selected percentage, while a custom alert watches a dollar level you specify. Robinhood also offers 52-week high/low notices, indicator alerts for stocks and ETFs, and email notifications for significant movements in holdings.

Choose the alert that matches what you need
Start by deciding whether you want Robinhood to watch a percentage move or a specific price. These are independent settings, so enabling one does not automatically create the other.

If you simply want to know when anything you own changes materially, use movement alerts. If you are waiting for a stock to cross a buy, sell, support, resistance, or valuation level, use a custom price alert. A percentage setting follows the size of the move from the relevant reference point; it is not a dollar value that you type in. A custom alert, by contrast, is tied to the number you enter on the chart.

Match the platform to the task
The standard mobile app and web classic use the same basic route: open the security, display its chart, select the bell, and add a price alert. Legend is designed around chart interaction, so you hover over a price and use the plus control. Mobile advanced charts also let you tap a chart price and open the bell. The advanced-chart alerts created in Legend and mobile advanced charts sync between those two experiences.
Before you create an alert
- Decide whether the asset is a holding, a watchlist item, or neither. General movement alerts only cover holdings or watchlists.
- Decide whether you want a percentage threshold or an exact price. The 5% and 10% choices appear in notification settings; an exact number is entered through the chart.
- Check whether you need an upward crossing, a downward crossing, or both. The custom flow separates Price moves above and Price moves below.
- Confirm that Robinhood and your phone are allowed to send notifications. A saved alert cannot help if the device blocks delivery.
- If you plan to rely on email, enable the separate email-notification setting for holding movements as well.
Turn on general stock movement alerts in the Robinhood app
These settings apply to assets you hold or follow in watchlists. Robinhood’s current US help-center guidance, reviewed October 13, 2026, uses the labels below; the wording or location can change in a later app release.
- Open Robinhood and select Account (the person icon).
- Select Menu (three horizontal bars).
- Open Settings.
- Choose Notifications and messages → Push Notifications.
- Under My holdings or My watchlists, select Stock price movements.
- Choose the movement threshold and any additional options, then save or leave the setting enabled.
Understand the 5% and 10% choices
Robinhood offers 5% and 10% thresholds for stock movement alerts. With the 5% setting selected, Robinhood says you receive alerts for 5% and 10% moves. With the 10% setting selected, alerts are for 10% moves. The percentage is a movement threshold, not a price target that you type in.

Choose 10% when you only want the larger movement notice. Neither choice lets you enter a custom percentage, and neither is a substitute for a dollar-level alert.
Enable watchlist alerts separately
Movement alerts for stocks you hold begin when notifications are enabled, according to Robinhood. Alerts for assets that are only on a watchlist are off by default. To monitor them, open the My watchlists section in the same settings screen and turn on Stock price movements.
When an asset is both held and watched
If the same asset appears in your holdings and a watchlist, Robinhood applies the holdings alert settings. Adjust the option under My holdings if you need to change what that security generates. Changing only the watchlist setting will not override the holdings setting for that asset.
Add 52-week high and low notices
Movement settings also include 52-week high and low alerts. Robinhood says you should receive at most one high alert and one low alert per stock or other asset per week, when applicable. These are separate from a custom target price: a 52-week event can occur without reaching a level you entered manually, and a custom target can be reached without creating a new 52-week high or low.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSet overnight alert frequency
The movement settings include an alert-frequency option for overnight alerts. Choose the frequency that fits how often you want overnight notices, bearing in mind that a higher frequency can produce more interruptions while a lower frequency can reduce them. This frequency choice affects how often overnight movement notices are sent; it does not turn a percentage alert into a custom target alert.

Create a custom stock price alert in the Robinhood mobile app
A custom alert watches one selected level and direction. You can create an alert for a move above a target, a move below a target, or both by creating separate alerts.
- Search for and open the stock’s detail page.
- View the stock’s chart.
- Tap the Notifications bell.
- For a stock or ETF, choose Price alerts, then tap Add alert.
- Turn on Price moves above or Price moves below.
- Tap Edit (the pencil icon) and enter the target price.
- Tap Save.
Enter the level exactly as you intend it to appear, then confirm both the direction and the number before saving. A “moves above” alert is intended for an upward crossing of the level you entered; a “moves below” alert is for a downward crossing. Review the number and direction before saving so you do not create the opposite trigger from the one you intended.
Remove or revise a custom alert in the app
Open the asset’s alerts, find the alert you no longer need, and swipe left on it to remove it. If the target is wrong, open the alert and use the edit control to correct the price or direction, then save again. Afterward, reopen the list and verify that the intended alert remains active.
Price alert versus movement alert
If the app is showing only 5% and 10% choices, you are still in the general movement settings. Return to the security’s chart and use the bell to reach Price alerts → Add alert. Conversely, if you only need a broad notice for every holding, you do not need to open each chart individually; configure the holdings movement setting once.
Set alerts on Robinhood web classic
The web workflow follows the same chart-based logic as the app.
- Open the stock’s page and display its chart.
- Select the Notifications bell.
- Choose Price alerts, then Add alert.
- Enable Price moves above or Price moves below.
- Select Edit (pencil), enter the target price, and select Save.
To delete an alert on web classic, select Delete for that alert. If you use both the app and web classic, check the alert list after saving so the target and direction are exactly what you expect. The standard web route should not be confused with Legend’s chart controls; Legend uses the plus control that appears when you hover over a price.
Use Robinhood Legend and mobile advanced charts
Robinhood Legend
Legend places alert creation directly on the chart.
- Open the asset chart in Legend.
- Hover over the price level where you want the alert.
- Click the + control that appears on the chart.
- Use the bell icon to configure the alert.
- Set the direction and target, then save.
- Manage existing alerts from Alerts in the upper-right corner of the page.
Using the chart point helps you start with a visible level, but still review the final target in the alert settings. The bell is where you confirm whether the trigger is above or below and where you save the configuration.
Mobile advanced charts
- Search for a stock, ETF, or crypto asset.
- Choose Advanced.
- Tap a price on the chart.
- Tap the bell icon.
- Configure and save the alert.
Robinhood says alerts created in Legend and mobile advanced charts sync between those two experiences. That synchronization applies to the advanced-chart workflow; continue to verify the alert list if you also use web classic or the standard mobile chart. The advanced workflow supports stocks, ETFs, and crypto searches, while the standard custom-alert instructions specifically describe stocks and ETFs.
Add indicator alerts for stocks and ETFs
Indicator alerts are available through the custom-alert flow for stocks and ETFs. Robinhood currently says they can be created on mobile, while notifications for them are available on both mobile and Legend.
- Open the stock or ETF in the mobile app and enter the chart’s advanced or custom-alert controls.
- Select the indicator-alert option rather than a simple price-above or price-below trigger.
- Choose the indicator condition offered for that chart.
- Save the alert, then review the alert list to confirm it is active.
The exact indicator choices and labels can vary with the current chart interface. If the indicator option is not visible, update the app and check the advanced chart rather than assuming a standard price alert has been created. Indicator notifications can be viewed on mobile and Legend even though Robinhood’s guidance places creation on mobile.
Enable email notifications for significant stock moves
Push notifications are the normal delivery method for stock alerts, but Robinhood also provides email alerts for significant price movements.
- Open Account.
- Select Menu, then Settings.
- Choose Notification and messages.
- Open Email notifications.
- Under My holdings, select Stock price movements.
This email path is for significant movement notices associated with holdings. It does not replace the chart-based process for entering a custom target price. Email and push are separate delivery choices, so enabling one does not necessarily enable the other.
Check that an alert will actually reach you
Creating an alert and receiving a notification are separate events. Robinhood states that it cannot always guarantee delivery of push notifications. Delivery depends on service availability and on settings in both the Robinhood app and your mobile phone.
- Confirm the relevant push-notification category is enabled in Robinhood, not just general notifications.
- Check that your phone permits notifications for Robinhood and is not silencing them through a focus, do-not-disturb, battery-saving, or similar mode.
- Make sure the asset is covered by the category you changed: holdings and watchlists have separate movement settings.
- For a custom alert, reopen the chart’s alert list and verify the target, direction, and active state.
- If you expect email, confirm that email notifications are enabled under the holdings path and check spam or filtered folders.
- After changing settings, return to the alert list instead of relying on memory. This catches an unsaved target, an accidentally disabled direction, or a setting applied to a watchlist rather than holdings.
An alert is not a trade order. It does not guarantee immediate delivery, execute a purchase or sale, or protect you from a price moving past the target before you can act. Treat the notification as a prompt to review the security and your own plan.

Common setup problems and fixes
“I enabled alerts, but my watchlist stock is silent”
Watchlist movement alerts are off by default. Return to Settings → Notifications and messages → Push Notifications → My watchlists → Stock price movements and enable them. If the stock is also held, change the holdings setting because it takes precedence.

“I can only choose 5% or 10%; I need $X”
You are in the movement-alert settings. Open the asset’s chart, select the bell, choose Price alerts → Add alert, and enter the target with Price moves above or Price moves below.
“The alert fired in the wrong direction”
Edit the alert and check whether Price moves above or Price moves below is enabled. Then verify the target number before saving. A percentage movement alert cannot be converted into a custom target; create the chart alert separately.
“I cannot find the bell on my screen”
Open the asset’s chart rather than only its quote summary. On mobile, try Advanced and tap a chart price. In Legend, hover over the chart price and use +, then the bell. Interface labels can change as Robinhood updates its products.
“I see an alert in Legend but not where I expected in the app”
Legend and mobile advanced-chart alerts sync with each other. The standard mobile chart and web classic have their own presentation, so open the relevant asset’s alert list and confirm the saved target there. Do not assume that a different screen means the direction or price changed; verify the details directly.
“The price crossed my target, but I did not see a notification”
Review the active alert and the phone’s notification permissions first. Robinhood’s disclosure says push delivery is not guaranteed and is subject to service availability and app/device settings. Treat the alert as an informational convenience, not as a time-critical execution system.
“I expected a 52-week notice but received nothing”
Confirm that 52-week high/low alerts are enabled in the movement settings and that the asset is covered under holdings or watchlists. Robinhood says these notices are limited to at most one high and one low alert per asset per week, when applicable, so they are not repeated for every fluctuation around the same extreme.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use alerts without confusing them with investment advice
A trigger only reports that a condition occurred. It does not explain why the price moved or indicate what you should do next. Robinhood’s disclosure states: “Notifications are provided for informational purposes only, and aren’t a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any particular security.” Consider the alert a reminder to review the security and your own plan, not a signal that a transaction is appropriate.

- Want broad monitoring? Turn on stock price movements under holdings or watchlists.
- Want a precise dollar level? Use the chart’s bell and add a price-above or price-below alert.
- Want yearly extremes? Enable 52-week high and low alerts with movement settings.
- Want a chart condition? Create an indicator alert on mobile for a stock or ETF.
- Want a second delivery channel? Enable email notifications for significant holding movements.
- Need confirmation? Reopen the alert list and verify the asset, direction, target, and active status.
What each alert can and cannot do
Movement alerts cover a group of assets and use Robinhood’s available 5% or 10% thresholds. Custom alerts focus on one charted asset and let you enter the level, but they still depend on notification delivery. A 52-week alert identifies a new extreme under Robinhood’s rules and may occur only once per direction per week. Indicator alerts monitor a chart condition rather than simply a percentage or dollar crossing. Email adds another notice channel for significant holding movements, not a replacement for custom target alerts.
Best Value
None of these options submits an order, reserves a price, or guarantees that you will see the notice before the market moves again. Verify the settings after creation and keep your phone and app notification permissions active.

Robinhood applies the holdings alert settings when an asset is both held and on a watchlist. Adjust the setting under My holdings.
Can Robinhood alert me at a 52-week high or low?
Yes. Enable 52-week high and low notices with the movement settings. Robinhood says you should receive at most one high and one low alert per asset per week, when applicable.
Can I set alerts in Robinhood Legend?
Yes. Hover over a chart price, click the plus control, use the bell to configure and save the alert, and manage saved alerts from Alerts in the upper-right corner.
Do Legend and mobile advanced-chart alerts sync?
Robinhood says alerts created in Legend and mobile advanced charts sync between those two experiences. Verify details if you also use standard mobile charts or web classic.
Why did my Robinhood alert not arrive?
Robinhood cannot always guarantee push delivery. Check the alert’s active state, the relevant Robinhood notification category, your phone permissions, focus or do-not-disturb settings, and service availability. Alerts are informational and do not execute trades.
Can I receive Robinhood stock alerts by email?
Yes, for significant price movements in holdings. Go to Account → Menu → Settings → Notification and messages → Email notifications → My holdings → Stock price movements.
The Bottom Line
Use Settings → Notifications and messages for 5% or 10% movement, 52-week, holdings, and watchlist alerts. Use the chart’s bell and Price alerts → Add alert when you need a custom price above or below a specific stock or ETF level. Legend and mobile advanced charts offer chart-based creation and sync with each other, while email can add significant-movement notices for holdings. Keep phone and app notifications enabled, and remember that Robinhood does not guarantee push delivery or treat alerts as investment recommendations.
