To set a stock price alert, open the security in your brokerage app, find its alert control, choose a price and whether the alert should trigger above or below it, then save and confirm it appears in your active-alert list. Moving-average alerts are less universal: check that your specific app supports the indicator and period you want, and whether it offers the feature on mobile, desktop, or both.
How do stock price and moving-average alerts work?
A price alert notifies you when a selected security meets a condition, such as reaching a price or crossing a threshold. An indicator alert can notify you when a chart condition—such as price crossing a moving average—is met. The available conditions and alert controls vary by provider.

An alert reports that a condition occurred; it does not determine whether you should buy, sell, or hold. Robinhood Financial LLC says its notifications are for informational purposes and are not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold a security. Robinhood’s US alert guidance also cautions that push delivery depends on service availability and app and phone settings.

How do I set a stock price alert?
- Find and open the stock, ETF, or other security in your brokerage app.
- Look on its quote or chart screen for Set an Alert, an Alerts menu, or a bell icon.
- Choose a condition, such as crossing above or below a price, and enter the threshold. If the app offers indicator alerts, select the indicator and condition you want.
- Save the alert, then open the app’s alert list or manager to verify it is active.
- Enable the intended delivery method in the app and allow notifications in your phone’s operating-system settings. If timely delivery matters to your workflow, verify the channel and platform directly; provider documentation does not guarantee delivery in every circumstance.
Platform-specific setup instructions
The following examples are based on US support materials. App labels and feature availability can change, so a control may look different in another app version or region.

Charles Schwab Mobile
- Open Markets, search for a symbol, and open its quote details.
- Tap Set an Alert, select Target price, choose the price type and direction, and enter the target.
- Save the alert. To review open alerts, go to the profile icon and tap Stock Alerts; triggered alerts are in a separate tab.
Schwab says mobile alerts do not synchronize with alerts on thinkorswim or Schwab.com. See Schwab’s Schwab Mobile alert instructions.
Robinhood US
- Open a stock or ETF chart in the app or on web classic.
- Choose the bell icon and select Price alerts.
- Enter an above- or below-price threshold and save.
Robinhood’s support page also lists an Indicator alerts option for stocks and ETFs. The instructions do not establish that every moving-average type is available, so check the indicator choices in your account. Robinhood says custom alerts arrive as push notifications; delivery depends on service availability and app and phone settings. Its page also describes certain 5% and 10% movement-alert thresholds, but those are product settings, not evidence of alert effectiveness. Details: Robinhood Price alerts.

Fidelity Trader+ Desktop and Fidelity Mobile
In Trader+ Desktop, open Tools > News & Research > Set Alert. Fidelity documents price movement in dollars or percent, 52-week highs and lows, and price crossing 20-, 50-, or 200-day exponential moving averages (EMA). The period values are alert options, not performance findings. See the Fidelity Trader+ Desktop User Guide.
A Fidelity education article published July 27, 2026, says Fidelity Mobile supports alerts for price, percent change, moving averages, and 52-week highs and lows, with push notifications. It also says price-trigger alerts can be delivered by text or email. The article does not provide exact mobile navigation, and mobile options may depend on the current app version. TradingView as a charting-platform alternative
If your brokerage app does not offer the technical condition you need, TradingView documents alerts for indicators, drawings, strategies, and chart patterns. Available conditions include crossing up or down, greater than or less than, and entering or exiting a channel. This describes TradingView’s charting tools, not a guarantee that an alert will be available through your brokerage. Compare the actual controls in the app you use rather than assuming every broker supports moving averages or the same delivery options.

- Trigger conditions: Check for fixed prices above or below, dollar or percent moves, and the particular moving-average indicator and period you want. Confirm whether alerts trigger once or recur if recurrence matters; the examples above do not establish a common recurrence policy.
- Setup and management: Look for how alerts are created, and whether active and triggered alerts are easy to find, edit, or remove.
- Delivery: Confirm whether the provider supports push, email, or text for the alert type you selected, then check account, app, and device settings.
- Platform behavior: Determine whether alerts created on mobile appear on web, desktop, or a separate trading platform. Schwab specifically says its mobile alerts do not sync with thinkorswim or Schwab.com.
- Limitations: Check regional eligibility, app-version requirements, service availability, and any provider disclaimer about delivery.
Feature documentation can show which controls are offered, but it does not establish comparative trigger speed, reliability, or investment outcomes. The cited materials do not provide a basis for naming one broker the best overall for alerts.

What to check if an alert does not arrive
- Confirm that the alert is listed as active and that its threshold and direction match what you intended.
- Check that the alert type uses the delivery channel you expect; a provider may offer different channels for different triggers.
- Verify notification permission for the brokerage app in your phone settings, as well as any notification settings inside the app.
- Check whether the alert was created on a different platform or account view. Some providers do not synchronize alerts across services or platforms.
- Allow for service availability limits. An alert’s presence in a help guide does not guarantee delivery in every circumstance.
