Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The safe pattern is a separately funded agent wallet or smart account whose signer enforces policy. Put limits in the wallet, policy module, delegated allowance, or MPC authorization layer—not in the language-model prompt. Set both a per-transaction maximum and a cumulative budget, restrict assets, recipients, contracts, and networks, add expiry and instant revocation, and require a human approval for new or risky actions. Verify the final transaction details before signing and retain an append-only audit log.
Why prompt instructions cannot stop an agent from overspending
An AI agent can interpret a prompt, but it cannot be trusted to enforce a financial boundary. A prompt such as “spend no more than 100 USDC today” is an application instruction. It does not constrain the signer if the model, tool, integration, or surrounding code produces a different transaction. A robust boundary is enforced at the point where a transaction is authorized and signed.

Crypto transfers and contract calls are generally irreversible after confirmation. Prompt injection, malware, unauthorized code execution, a compromised integration, or a simple model error can therefore turn a plausible request into an unintended payment. Circle’s terms for its Agent Wallet warn that users must implement spending controls, verify transaction details and agent actions, and monitor for unauthorized or unintended programmatic transactions. Circle also states that its wallet uses 2-of-2 MPC and that key shares are not exposed to the agent.

The IMF’s April 2026 analysis separates four functions that are often mistakenly combined: intent and orchestration, control and authorization, settlement, and monitoring. Treating those as separate layers lets the agent propose an action while a deterministic policy system decides whether it may be signed.

The controls every agent-payment policy should contain
Use a policy that is specific enough to reject an unsafe transaction without asking the model to make a judgment it should not control. The following fields cover the practical minimum.
| Control | What it limits | Example rule |
|---|---|---|
| Per-transaction cap | The largest value in one signed transaction | Reject any transfer or swap worth more than 25 USDC |
| Cumulative budget | Total value over a defined period | Allow at most 100 USDC in a rolling 24-hour window |
| Approved assets | Tokens the agent may transfer or trade | USDC only; reject every other token |
| Recipient allowlist | Destination accounts | Permit three pre-verified payroll addresses |
| Contract allowlist | Smart contracts that may receive a call | Permit one known swap contract; deny arbitrary approvals |
| Chain scope | Networks on which the authority works | Ethereum and Base only; reject a request on another chain |
| Validity window | When the mandate is active | Start at task launch and expire after two hours |
| Approval escalation | Events that require a person | Human confirmation for a new recipient, high slippage, or unusual amount |
| Revocation | How authority is ended immediately | Owner revokes the allowance or disables the policy on suspected compromise |
| Audit trail | What happened and why | Append each request, policy decision, signer response, and transaction hash |
Per-transaction and cumulative limits solve different problems. A 25-USDC cap still permits an attacker to make four payments in quick succession unless a daily or rolling-window budget is also enforced. ERC-8196 policy fields explicitly cover allowed actions, allowed and blocked contracts, maximum value per transaction, optional maximum value per day, and start and expiry timestamps.
Use a separate wallet, not the treasury
Fund an agent wallet only with the amount needed for its current task. Keep operating funds and long-term reserves in a different wallet with no agent signing authority. This compartment limits the loss if a policy is misconfigured or a credential is compromised.
Recommended Free Tools
The agent account can be a managed MPC wallet, an on-chain smart account, or a delegated token allowance. The key design question is not whether the model can see a private key; it is whether the signing system will cryptographically reject a transaction outside policy.
- Give the agent only the assets and chains required for its job.
- Do not grant a blanket token approval to an arbitrary contract.
- Use a short validity window for one-off jobs and renew it deliberately for recurring jobs.
- Keep a human-controlled recovery or owner account separate from the agent signer.
Choose an enforcement pattern
These patterns place the boundary in different parts of the stack. The appropriate choice depends on whether you need one token allowance, a programmable smart account, or a service that manages signing and policy evaluation.
| Pattern | Where policy is enforced | Custody and limits | Approval, expiry, and audit characteristics | Chain coverage stated in the documentation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Managed MPC wallet | Wallet or signing service | Daily limits, tradable-token scope, and high-risk handling; the private key is not fully reconstructed on one device or server | Out-of-rule actions are rejected or require a second confirmation; access can be revoked by signing out | Binance documentation updated October 15, 2026 lists BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Base, and Solana |
| On-chain smart-account policy | Smart-account policy module and contract validation | ERC-8196 defines allowed actions, contract allowlists and blocklists, per-transaction value, optional daily value, and start/expiry timestamps | Calls for cryptographically enforced compliance and an immutable, hash-chained audit trail | Depends on the smart-account deployment and supported chains |
| Delegated token allowance | Token delegation or allowance on the relevant chain | A delegate can transfer only the specified token amount while the owner retains custody | The owner can revoke at any time; Solana recommends the minimum necessary limit and monitoring for unexpected transfers | Solana’s token-delegation model applies to Solana token accounts |
| MPC agent-payment service | Service policy engine before MPC signing | Scoped, time-limited, revocable mandates and natural-language policy inputs translated into enforceable checks | Documented flow is agent request → policy engine → MPC signing → chain execution → append-only provenance record | Use only the chains supported by the service and its deployment |
| Signed MCP policy | A signed pre-authorized policy evaluated on every tool call | Accounts, networks, spend limits, and recipients are fixed in the signed policy | The agent cannot change the policy; calls outside it are blocked before signing | Coverage is determined by the configured MCP server and connected accounts |
Managed MPC reduces the chance that one server contains a reconstructable private key, but it does not remove the need to check transactions. Delegation limits the amount a delegate can move, while the owner still controls the account and revocation. Smart accounts offer the richest on-chain rules, but require a compatible account, policy module, and deployment on the desired network.
Step-by-step: build a bounded agent wallet
1. Define the job and its failure boundary
Write down the exact action the agent must perform: for example, “pay approved contractors in USDC on Base.” Identify the maximum loss you would accept if every permitted transaction were malicious. That amount should determine the wallet’s funding and the cumulative budget, not the model’s estimate of what seems reasonable.

2. Create and fund an isolated account
Create a new wallet, smart account, or MPC workspace controlled by a human owner or recovery key. Transfer only the working balance. Record the account address, chain, and owner authority in an inventory that the agent cannot edit.
3. Set the asset, chain, recipient, and contract scope
Use canonical token and contract addresses rather than symbols or names supplied by the model. Permit only the required network identifiers, token contracts, recipient addresses, and application contracts. A payment request that changes from USDC to an unapproved token, or from a known recipient to a new address, must fail closed or enter human review.
4. Configure both limits
Set a maximum value for one transaction and a separate cumulative limit for a fixed or rolling window. For example, a policy could allow no more than 25 USDC per transaction and 100 USDC in 24 hours. The policy engine must count confirmed or authorized attempts according to a documented rule so that retries cannot reset the budget.
5. Add a validity window and revocation path
Give each mandate a start time and expiry. For a single task, an hour or two may be more appropriate than an open-ended authorization; recurring jobs should renew rather than silently run forever. Test the owner’s emergency action before production: revoke the delegated allowance, disable the policy module, terminate the MPC session, or sign out of the managed wallet, depending on the implementation.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute6. Define approval escalations
Route these events to a human confirmation screen:
- First payment to a recipient or any recipient not on the allowlist.
- Any new contract, token approval, permit, or upgrade call.
- An amount above the normal range, even when it is below the hard cap.
- High slippage, a changed risk score, an unfamiliar network, or a request outside the mandate.
- Any attempt to change limits, recipients, assets, chains, expiry, or the approval process.
Keep low-value transfers within the approved scope automatic. A human should approve the exceptional condition, not repeatedly click through routine payments.
7. Verify the transaction immediately before signing
Display and check the final recipient address, network, asset contract, amount, calldata or swap parameters, gas settings, and policy decision. Do not approve a friendly natural-language summary alone. Compare the destination with the allowlist and confirm that the transaction still fits both the per-transaction and cumulative budgets.
8. Record and monitor every decision
Store the agent request, normalized transaction, policy version, approval identity, signer response, timestamp, and resulting transaction hash in an append-only log. Alert on rejected attempts, repeated retries, near-limit activity, new recipients, and changes in risk or network. A hash-chained audit trail, as described by ERC-8196, makes later tampering evident.

9. Revoke at task completion
End-of-task cleanup is a normal control, not an emergency-only measure. Revoke a temporary allowance or expire the mandate as soon as the work is complete. Revoke immediately after suspected compromise or abnormal activity.
How each implementation works in practice
Managed MPC wallets
In a managed MPC design, signing authority is divided so the private key is not fully reconstructed on one device or server. Binance’s documentation states: “Your private key is never fully reconstructed on any single device or server.” It also documents daily limits, tradable-token scope, and high-risk handling; actions outside those rules are rejected or require a second confirmation. Its October 15, 2026 documentation lists BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Base, and Solana support.
Configure the wallet’s daily limit and token scope, then verify how the service treats pending transactions, retries, and a second confirmation. Signing out is documented as a way to revoke access, but retain an owner-controlled emergency path that does not depend on the agent.
On-chain smart-account policies
ERC-8196 is designed for policies that contracts can check rather than instructions a model merely promises to follow. Define permitted actions, allowed and blocked contracts, maximum value per transaction, optional maximum value per day, and start and expiry timestamps. Because the checks execute in the account or policy module, a compromised application cannot simply ask the model to ignore them.
Confirm that the deployed account supports the policy fields you need and that policy updates require the owner or another independent authority. A policy module is only as strong as its validation code and deployment configuration.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Delegated token allowances on Solana
Solana’s official documentation describes delegation as permission for another account to transfer tokens up to a specified limit while the owner keeps custody. The owner can revoke the delegation at any time. The documentation calls it “a middle ground—enabling automated payments while limiting risk exposure to the approved amount.”
Delegate only the required token account and amount. Monitor transfers and revoke the delegate when the job ends. Remember that a token allowance controls that token movement; it does not automatically constrain unrelated instructions, other assets, or another chain.

MPC agent-payment services
Services built for agent payments can translate a scoped mandate into deterministic checks before an MPC signature. Sardis describes natural-language spending policies, scoped and time-limited mandates, a policy engine that checks every transaction, MPC signing, and an append-only provenance ledger. The documented sequence is agent request, policy evaluation, MPC signing, chain execution, and audit record.
When configuring one, inspect the normalized policy rather than relying on the natural-language version. Verify how it handles unsupported assets, stale prices, failed transactions, retries, and policy changes.

Signed MCP policies
A signed MCP policy can replace repeated browser confirmations with a pre-authorized document covering accounts, networks, spend limits, and recipients. Core’s MCP documentation says every tool call is evaluated before signing and that the agent cannot exceed or change the policy.
Use this pattern when tool calls are the main attack surface. Protect the signing key for the policy itself, require an independent signer for policy updates, and log the exact policy hash associated with every call.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Approval rules that are easy to operate
| Situation | Decision | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Approved asset, recipient, contract, chain, and amount within both budgets | Allow automatically | All deterministic conditions match |
| First payment to a recipient | Require human approval | Address substitution is a common high-impact failure |
| New contract, token approval, permit, or upgrade | Require human approval or deny | The call may grant broader authority than the payment itself |
| Unusual amount, high slippage, or changed risk score | Require human approval | Signals a possible compromise or market condition |
| Blocked contract, unapproved token or network, expired session, or exceeded budget | Deny | The request violates a hard boundary |
| Agent asks to change its own policy | Deny and alert | Policy administration must be independent of the agent |
| Task complete or compromise suspected | Revoke | Remove authority rather than merely pausing the application |
Testing before real funds are available
Run a controlled test with a negligible balance or a test network where supported. Test each boundary separately rather than only sending one successful payment.
- Send an amount one unit below the per-transaction cap, then one unit above it.
- Make several individually valid payments that together exceed the daily or rolling-window budget.
- Change only the recipient, token, contract, or network and confirm rejection or escalation.
- Let the validity window expire and verify that a previously issued request cannot be signed.
- Attempt a policy change through the agent and confirm that an independent owner is required.
- Revoke the allowance or session while a request is pending and confirm that no later signature succeeds.
- Inspect the audit record for the original request, normalized parameters, policy version, decision, and transaction hash.
Operational safeguards and common failure modes
The prompt says “under the limit,” but the wallet signs more
Cause: the limit exists only in application text. Fix: move it into the signer, smart-account validation, delegated allowance, or signed policy and test an over-limit transaction.
Many small payments drain the account
Cause: only a per-transaction cap was configured. Fix: add a cumulative daily or rolling-window budget and define how pending, failed, and retried attempts are counted.
Best Value
A token approval grants more power than intended
Cause: the agent approved a contract for an unlimited amount or interacted with an unrecognized contract. Fix: allowlist contracts, cap approvals, require human review for approvals and permits, and revoke unnecessary allowances.
The destination address is wrong but the amount is normal
Cause: amount limits do not validate recipients. Fix: use an address allowlist, show the complete destination before signing, and require approval for every first payment or address change.
Revocation does not stop activity
Cause: only the application session was closed, while an on-chain allowance or independent signing mandate remained active. Fix: revoke at the layer that actually authorizes the transaction and verify with a blocked test request.
The audit log cannot explain a payment
Cause: only the final transaction hash was stored. Fix: record the request, policy version, normalized parameters, approval event, signer decision, and execution result in append-only storage.
What limits are reasonable?
There is no universal dollar limit supported by the published documentation. The sources describe product-specific limits and policy fields, not a common benchmark. Set the cap from the maximum loss your operation can tolerate, the task’s normal payment size, and the time needed for a human to detect and revoke abuse. Keep the agent wallet balance below the maximum exposure whenever the workflow allows it.
Reassess limits when the agent’s job, recipients, contracts, token prices, or chain changes. A limit that was acceptable for fixed payroll payments may be unsafe for an agent that can discover new vendors or execute swaps.
Minimum viable policy checklist
- Separate agent wallet or smart account with limited funding.
- Signer-enforced policy rather than prompt-only instructions.
- Per-transaction cap and cumulative windowed budget.
- Approved token contracts, recipient addresses, application contracts, and networks.
- Start and expiry timestamps.
- Human approval for first recipients, new contracts, unusual amounts, high slippage, risk changes, and policy updates.
- Owner-controlled revocation tested in advance.
- Final-parameter verification before signing.
- Append-only audit records and alerts for rejects, retries, near-limit activity, and policy changes.
- Routine end-of-task revocation and periodic review of balances and allowances.
That combination lets an agent automate routine, bounded payments while keeping authorization, recovery, and accountability outside the model’s control.
