To change a saved decision, open the shortcut, tap Details (the information button), then Privacy. You can switch off an individual permission or tap Reset Privacy to remove the shortcut’s saved data access. Broader permissions for apps such as Calendar or Reminders are managed separately in Settings > Privacy & Security.
Which iPhone privacy control do you need?
Shortcuts has several privacy controls with different jobs. A shortcut’s own Privacy screen governs data that particular shortcut requests. iPhone’s Privacy & Security settings govern access by app and data category. Sharing, scripts, and automation execution have additional controls in Shortcuts settings and in each automation.

| What you want to control | Where to find it | What the setting changes |
|---|---|---|
| One shortcut’s access to data | Shortcuts > open the shortcut > Details > Privacy | Allows or revokes permissions saved for that shortcut, including individual items such as Location or Safari when they are listed. |
| All apps requesting a category of information | Settings > Privacy & Security > choose a category | Turns access on or off for apps that requested Calendars, Reminders, Motion & Fitness, and other categories. |
| Sharing large amounts of data | Settings > Shortcuts > Advanced > Allow Sharing Large Amounts of Data | Controls a separate Shortcuts sharing capability; it is not the same as a shortcut reading a contact, photo, or location. |
| Shortcuts received through private sharing | Settings > Shortcuts > Private Sharing | Controls whether privately shared shortcuts can be used. Apple says it cannot verify their authenticity or behavior. |
| Scripts and JavaScript actions | Settings > Shortcuts > Advanced; also the shortcut’s requested permission | Controls whether scripts can run. A JavaScript-on-webpage permission is remembered for each shortcut and webpage. |
| Whether an automation runs without asking | Open the automation and inspect its Privacy settings | Controls execution behavior, such as whether supported personal automations can run while the device is locked; it does not itself grant access to personal data. |
Apple’s labels can move or vary slightly with the installed iOS release. The paths below follow Apple’s current user guides. If a control is not visible, update your understanding of its scope first: a missing shortcut-level control does not mean that every app has unrestricted access.

Allow or deny a permission when a shortcut asks
The first time a shortcut needs protected information, Shortcuts displays a privacy dialog. The dialog offers three choices:
#1 Best Overall
- [Ultra-Lightweight Ear Buds Designed for Small Ears] Each earbud weighs only 3.7g and features a compact, ergonomic in-ear design made especially for small ears. Secure, low-profile, and comfortable for workouts, all-day wear or overnight sleeping. The ultra-slim profile sits flush in your ear with no hard edges poking or rubbing, so you can even sleep on your side without discomfort.
- [Immersive Stereo Sound with TOZO OrigX Technology] TOZO OrigX tuning delivers clear vocals, balanced mids, and natural stereo sound for music, podcasts, and videos.
- [Long Battery Life for Daily Use] Get up to 7 hours of playtime on a single charge, with up to 32 hours total using the charging case—ideal for workdays, commuting, and extended listening sessions.
- [Bluetooth 5.3 & Stable Connection] Bluetooth 5.3 provides fast pairing, stable wireless performance, and reduced dropouts as you move around home or office.
- [Deep Bass with Clear Vocals] High-performance drivers produce punchy bass while keeping vocals clean and detailed for everyday listening.
- Allow Once: grants access for the current run. The shortcut can ask again later.
- Always Allow: saves your approval for that shortcut so the next access request is suppressed.
- Don’t Allow: refuses the request and lets the shortcut continue only if that action can work without the data.
To make the decision, run the shortcut from the Shortcuts app, a widget, Siri, or another supported entry point. Read the item named in the dialog rather than approving automatically: a shortcut that needs a location, a webpage, or another personal source should have a clear reason for requesting it. Apple documents these choices in Adjust basic privacy settings in Shortcuts on iPhone and iPad.
If you select Allow Once, a later run may display the same prompt. That is expected and is useful when you want to approve access only for a single task. Select Always Allow only when you trust the shortcut and want uninterrupted runs. A refusal may cause an action to fail, return no results, or skip part of a shortcut, so read the following error before changing another setting.
For a shortcut that you built yourself, compare the request with its visible actions. For a shortcut obtained from somebody else, verify its source and inspect every action before granting ongoing access. A request for Safari or webpage contents is materially different from a request to format text, and a location request should match what the shortcut promises to do.
Review or revoke access for one shortcut
You can inspect a shortcut’s saved decisions without waiting for another prompt.
- Open the Shortcuts app.
- Tap the shortcut whose access you want to inspect.
- Tap Details (the information button).
- Tap Privacy.
- Turn off a listed permission, such as Location or Safari, or tap Reset Privacy to remove all data access saved for that shortcut.
Switching off one item is the least disruptive choice when you still need the shortcut’s other permissions. Reset Privacy is the clean reset: the shortcut loses every saved data-access decision, and it can ask again the next time an action requires one. Resetting does not delete the shortcut itself; it only removes the permissions it had saved.
If the shortcut’s Details view has no Privacy option, Apple says that shortcut does not have access to your data. That is different from a hidden permission: there simply is no shortcut-level data permission to change at that time. If a later edit adds an action that needs protected information, a Privacy entry and a prompt may appear.
Review this screen after you duplicate, import, or substantially edit a shortcut. A copied shortcut can contain different actions from the one you originally approved, and a new action can create a new request. The safest habit is to read the permission name each time it appears rather than assuming an earlier approval covers every future change.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChange app permissions by data category
Use iPhone’s system-wide controls when you want to see which apps requested a type of information, rather than one shortcut’s saved choice.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
- Choose a category, such as Calendars, Reminders, or Motion & Fitness.
- Review the apps listed as having requested that category.
- Turn an app’s access on or off.
Apple’s category pages show the apps that requested access and provide the switch for each one. See Control access to information in apps on iPhone for the documented settings path.
This layer and a shortcut’s Privacy screen answer different questions. The category page answers, “Which apps may access this kind of information?” The shortcut page answers, “What data access has this particular shortcut been allowed to use?” When diagnosing an unexpected request, check the shortcut first, then the relevant system category.
For example, turning off Calendar access for an app in Privacy & Security can prevent that app from reading calendars, but it does not erase a shortcut’s saved approval for another category. Conversely, resetting a shortcut does not switch off Calendar access for every other app. Make the change at the layer that matches your goal.

Control sharing and other advanced Shortcuts settings
Large amounts of data
Shortcuts has a separate switch for sharing large amounts of data. To review it, open Settings > Shortcuts > Advanced, then inspect Allow Sharing Large Amounts of Data. This setting concerns the sharing capability itself; it does not approve every individual request made by every shortcut.
Do not treat this switch as a shortcut data-access master switch. A shortcut can still ask for permission to use a particular source, and those requests remain controlled from the shortcut’s Privacy screen and iPhone’s category settings. Turn the large-data option on only when you have a specific sharing task that needs it.
Private sharing
Private Sharing is under Settings > Shortcuts. A privately shared shortcut may come from a person or source outside Apple’s normal verification process. Apple explicitly warns: “Apple cannot verify the authenticity or behavior of shortcuts shared privately. Always verify shortcuts you receive from contacts.” Before running one, open its actions and look for requests that do not match what the shortcut claims to do. Keep private sharing disabled when you do not need it. Apple’s basic privacy guide explains this control alongside the per-shortcut settings: Adjust basic privacy settings in Shortcuts on iPhone and iPad.
Verification means more than recognizing the sender’s name. Check the actions, the data sources, and any web or script steps. If the shortcut asks for access that has no obvious connection to its purpose, choose Don’t Allow, leave it disabled, and remove it if necessary. Private sharing is a distribution choice; it does not prove that the shortcut is safe.
Scripts
Apple places Allow Running Scripts under Settings > Shortcuts > Advanced. Scripts can alter data or trigger actions beyond ordinary shortcut steps, so enable this only when you understand the shortcut and its source. Apple’s warning is direct: “You should never run a shortcut that contains JavaScript you don’t trust.”

The relevant action is usually Run JavaScript on Webpage. When it is allowed, the permission persists separately for each shortcut and webpage. Approving it for one shortcut on one site does not mean every shortcut can run JavaScript on every site. A script may read sensitive contents of the webpage it operates on, so inspect both the webpage and the code before granting access.
Apple says the script is analyzed on the device against periodically updated malware definitions, and that the JavaScript text in the action is not sent to an external server for analysis. Those safeguards do not make an untrusted script safe to run; the decision about the shortcut’s source and behavior remains yours. See Advanced Privacy and security settings in Shortcuts on iPhone or iPad.
If you later stop trusting a script, disable Allow Running Scripts in Advanced settings and revisit the shortcut’s own Privacy screen. Because webpage permission is remembered per shortcut and webpage, check each approved combination rather than assuming one change covers all sites.
Separate automation permissions from data permissions
An automation can ask for confirmation even when the shortcut itself has the data access it needs. That is because execution behavior is controlled separately from data access.
- Open Shortcuts and tap Automation.
- Select the personal automation you want to change.
- Open its Privacy settings.
- Review Allow Running When Locked and any other run-behavior option shown for that automation.
- Check the individual actions in the automation; Apple notes that some actions may need their own configuration.
Apple documents that supported personal automations can run automatically, while some actions still require separate setup. Allow Running When Locked determines whether the automation may execute in that state; it is not a permission to read your contacts, location, Safari data, or other personal information. Those requests still use the shortcut and system privacy controls described earlier. The current automation guide is served as an iOS 27 guide: Add automations to Shortcuts on iPhone or iPad.
If an automation still pauses, identify which part is pausing. A trigger may require confirmation, an action may need its own configuration, or a data request may be waiting for a permission choice. Changing Allow Running When Locked addresses only the locked-device execution case; it cannot substitute for granting or revoking data access.
Fix common privacy-permission problems
“The shortcut keeps asking every time.”
You probably chose Allow Once, or the saved approval was removed. Open the shortcut’s Details > Privacy screen and check whether the requested item is still enabled. Choose Always Allow on a future prompt only if you trust the shortcut and want the request suppressed.

“There is no Privacy option in Details.”
Apple’s guidance says the shortcut currently has no access to your data. Review the actions in the shortcut to see whether it actually needs protected information. If you add or enable an action that requests data, Shortcuts may present a permission prompt during the next run.
“I turned off an app category, but Shortcuts still asks.”
Check both permission layers. First inspect the shortcut’s own Details > Privacy screen. Then open Settings > Privacy & Security and select the category named in the request. These controls are independent views, so changing one does not replace reviewing the other.
“My automation still asks before it runs.”
Open the automation and inspect its Privacy settings, including Allow Running When Locked. Confirm that the trigger is one of Apple’s supported automatic personal-automation types and review each action for a separate confirmation or configuration requirement. Automatic execution and permission to read data are separate decisions.

Do not approve it merely to make the shortcut work. Stop, inspect its actions, and verify who supplied it and why each requested item is necessary. Apple does not verify the authenticity or behavior of privately shared shortcuts. Delete or disable the shortcut if its behavior cannot be explained.
“A JavaScript shortcut wants to run on a webpage.”
Confirm the exact shortcut and webpage named in the request. JavaScript permission is remembered per shortcut and webpage, and the script can read webpage contents. Do not enable Allow Running Scripts or approve Run JavaScript on Webpage for code you do not trust.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Before you approve: a quick decision process
- Identify the requester. Is the prompt from a shortcut, an automation, or an app category in Settings?
- Read the data name. Location, Safari, calendars, reminders, motion data, and webpage contents have different privacy implications.
- Match the request to the action. If the shortcut’s purpose does not require that information, deny it.
- Choose the narrowest duration. Use Allow Once for a one-time task and Always Allow only for a trusted recurring workflow.
- Recheck after edits or imports. New actions can create new requests, especially in privately shared shortcuts or scripts.
This process avoids two common mistakes: granting a broad approval to fix a single failed action, and changing a system category when the real issue is a saved decision inside one shortcut.
A practical privacy checklist
- Identify the scope first: one shortcut, an iPhone data category, sharing, scripts, or automation execution.
- Use Allow Once when the need is temporary; use Always Allow only for a trusted, understood shortcut.
- Periodically open important shortcuts and review Details > Privacy.
- Use Reset Privacy when you want to remove all saved data access for one shortcut.
- Check Settings > Privacy & Security for category-level access by apps.
- Leave private sharing and large-data sharing off unless you have a specific reason to use them.
- Read script actions, especially JavaScript that runs on webpages, before granting permission.
- Treat Allow Running When Locked as an execution setting, not as a data-access approval.
- Recheck the paths after an iOS update because Apple can revise labels and menu locations.
What to remember
The safest way to manage iPhone Shortcuts privacy is to match the control to the request. Use the shortcut’s Details > Privacy screen for saved access by one shortcut, Settings > Privacy & Security for app categories, Settings > Shortcuts > Advanced for sharing and scripts, and the automation’s own Privacy settings for when it is allowed to run. A permission prompt is an opportunity to inspect what the shortcut is asking for, not a step to dismiss automatically.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I change an iPhone shortcut’s permissions?
Open Shortcuts, open the shortcut, tap Details, then Privacy. Turn off a listed permission or tap Reset Privacy to remove all saved data-access choices for that shortcut.
Best Value
What is the difference between Allow Once and Always Allow?
Allow Once grants access for the current run and may prompt again later. Always Allow saves approval for that shortcut so the next request is suppressed. Use the permanent choice only for a shortcut you trust.
How do I reset all privacy permissions for one shortcut?
In Shortcuts, open the shortcut’s Details screen, tap Privacy, and choose Reset Privacy. The shortcut remains installed, but its saved data-access decisions are removed and it can ask again.
Why is there no Privacy option in a shortcut’s Details?
Apple says a shortcut without a Privacy option currently has no access to your data. A Privacy entry can appear later if you add an action that needs protected information.
Where do I revoke Calendar or Reminders access?
Go to Settings, Privacy & Security, choose Calendars or Reminders, review the listed apps, and switch access off for the app you want to restrict. This category control is separate from a shortcut’s own Privacy screen.
Why does my automation still ask before running?
Automation execution is separate from data access. Open Shortcuts, Automation, select the automation, and review its Privacy settings, including Allow Running When Locked. Some triggers or individual actions may still require separate configuration.
Are privately shared shortcuts safe?
Apple says it cannot verify the authenticity or behavior of shortcuts shared privately. Inspect the actions, confirm the source, and deny or remove the shortcut if its requests do not match its stated purpose.
Can a JavaScript shortcut read a webpage?
Run JavaScript on Webpage can access contents of the webpage it operates on. Permission is remembered separately for each shortcut and webpage. Do not enable Allow Running Scripts or approve the action for code you do not trust.

The Bottom Line
Use Details > Privacy to manage one shortcut, Settings > Privacy & Security to manage app categories, Advanced Shortcuts settings for sharing and scripts, and an automation’s Privacy settings for run behavior. Grant only the narrow access a trusted shortcut needs, and reset or revoke it whenever the shortcut’s purpose or source changes.
