To get an alert when a technology or semiconductor stock falls, open the symbol in a market app, choose either an absolute price or a percentage decline, select where notifications should arrive, and test the rule. TradingView is the most flexible choice for watchlists and technical or fundamental conditions; Yahoo Finance is the quickest route to a mobile target-price push alert; Fidelity is practical if you already use its brokerage account.
Decide what a “drop” means before creating an alert
A price-drop alert is a notification rule, not an order. It tells you that a quote met a condition; you still need to check the company’s news, earnings, guidance, valuation, market conditions and your own investment plan before acting.

Absolute-price alerts
An absolute-price alert fires when a stock reaches a dollar level you specify. For example, you could ask to be notified when a share trades below $100. This is useful when a particular price is the point at which you want to review a position, read an earnings report or reassess a valuation.

Percentage-drop alerts
A percentage rule measures a relative move, such as a decline of 5%. Relative thresholds make more sense when comparing companies with very different share prices: a 5% fall is the same proportional move for a high-priced chip designer and a lower-priced equipment supplier.
The reference period matters. Many services calculate the change from the previous close, but an app may offer another interval. Read the condition text before saving it so that “down 5%” is not mistaken for a five-point dollar move or an intraday change from an unexpected starting price.
Watchlist, technical and fundamental rules
A watchlist alert applies one condition independently to every symbol in a selected list. This is convenient for a group of semiconductor names, but the notification should identify the ticker that triggered it.

What you need before setting an alert
- The exact exchange-listed ticker: Confirm the exchange and share class. Similar symbols can represent different companies, preferred shares, depositary receipts or listings in another country.
- A trigger definition: Choose an absolute price, a percentage move, a technical condition or a fundamental threshold.
- A reference period: For percentage rules, verify whether the comparison is to the prior close, the session open or another period.
- A market-session choice: Decide whether pre-market and post-market quotes should count. Thin extended-hours trading can produce moves that do not persist in the regular session.
- A delivery channel: Enable app push, desktop notification, email, sound, text or webhook options that your service supports.
- A response plan: Write down what the alert is supposed to prompt, such as reviewing inventory data or the latest guidance. It should not be treated as an automatic buy signal.

Set alerts in TradingView
TradingView is the broadest option when you want one rule across many semiconductor symbols or want to combine price with indicators and fundamentals. Its help documentation describes price alerts as triggers when a symbol reaches, exceeds or falls below a specified level.
Create a single-symbol price alert
- Search for the company’s ticker and open the correct exchange-listed symbol.
- Open the alert creation control from the quote or chart view.
- Choose a condition. For a dollar threshold, select the price and a “less than” or “crossing down” operator. For a relative rule, choose the percentage-movement condition and enter the decline you want to monitor.
- Enter the threshold and review the displayed condition in plain language. Confirm that it says “below” or “down” rather than “above” or “up.”
- Select delivery methods such as app, desktop, email, webhook, sound or text, as available on your account.
- Choose whether the alert should trigger once or remain active according to the recurrence options shown by the platform, then save it.
- Open the alert list and verify the symbol, condition, expiration and status.
Apply one condition to a semiconductor watchlist
- Create a watchlist containing only the chip and technology symbols you actually follow. A useful mix might include a chip designer, a foundry, a memory producer, an equipment supplier and a diversified technology company.
- Open the watchlist-alert function and select the percentage decline or price condition.
- Set the threshold and delivery channels. TradingView states that a watchlist alert applies the same condition independently to each symbol, so each notification should show which ticker met it.
- Give the alert a descriptive name that includes the condition and intended response, such as “Semis down 5% — review guidance.”
- Check the alert list after saving. A watchlist rule can generate several notifications during a sector-wide sell-off.
Add technical or fundamental filters
If a price move alone produces too many notifications, add a second condition where the interface permits it. Examples include a price crossing a moving average, a percentage move combined with a channel boundary, or a valuation threshold such as a price-to-earnings ratio. Confirm how often the selected metric updates. TradingView notes that fundamental alerts can be temporarily inaccurate for a few hours after rapid earnings-related price changes, so avoid treating an immediate post-earnings reading as final.
Understand TradingView expiration
TradingView documents a maximum two-month lifetime for standard alerts. Premium and Ultimate plans offer an open-ended option. Put an expiration date on your calendar when using a standard alert, especially for a long-term watchlist, and renew it only after checking that the original threshold still fits your plan.

Yahoo Finance is suited to a straightforward notification when a followed stock reaches a chosen target. Its Android help says that a push notification is sent to the device when the target is met.

General setup
- Sign in to Yahoo Finance and search for the exact stock symbol.
- Add the symbol to your followed list or watchlist if it is not already there.
- Open the symbol’s alert or notification controls and choose a custom target price or a significant-price-change option.
- Enter the target below the current quote for a downside alert, review the condition and save it.
- Allow notifications for the Yahoo Finance app in your phone’s operating-system settings. Also check any notification setting inside the app.
- Review the active-alert list and confirm that the target belongs to the intended symbol.
Android and iOS differences
The exact custom-alert steps differ slightly between Android and iOS. Button names and locations can change after an app update, so follow the current alert control shown on your device rather than an old screenshot. In either operating system, a signed-in account and device-level notification permission are required for a push message.
Yahoo Finance is best for a small number of simple targets. If you need the same percentage rule across a large basket, technical operators or fundamental conditions, use a service that documents those functions instead.
Set alerts in Fidelity
Fidelity documents price alerts for stocks, ETFs, options and mutual funds. The service can notify you when a security moves above or below a target price, or when its percentage change since the previous close reaches a chosen level.
- Sign in to your Fidelity account and locate the security by ticker.
- Open the alert tools associated with the quote, watchlist or trading workspace.
- Select a price condition (above or below a target) or a percentage-change condition based on the previous close.
- Enter the threshold and confirm the displayed security, share class and reference period.
- Choose available delivery methods, such as Message Center, desktop pop-up or sound, and mobile push.
- Save the alert and check its active status in the alert-management area.
Fidelity’s older Active Trader Pro help material may not reflect every current web or mobile label. If a control is missing, look in the current quote, watchlist and notification settings rather than assuming that the alert type is unavailable.

Build a useful semiconductor alert plan
Use a broad percentage rule for sector moves
Start with a percentage-drop alert for the semiconductor basket you follow. A 5% threshold is an example, not a universal recommendation. Choose a level that is large enough to avoid routine market noise but small enough to give you time to investigate. Because each symbol can have a different normal volatility, one threshold may be more active for a memory company than for a diversified technology firm.
Add absolute levels for decisions that require deeper review
After the broad rule, add individual price alerts at levels where you would read the latest earnings release, check management guidance, examine inventory trends or revisit valuation. Absolute levels are easier to connect to a written decision plan than an unexplained stream of percentage notifications.
Label every rule
Include the ticker, trigger, reference period and intended action in the label. For example, “AMD below $100 — review estimate changes” is more useful than “Alert 3.” Clear labels reduce the risk of mistaking a notification for a trading instruction.

Make sure notifications and market data are reliable
- Check permissions: Turn on notifications for the app and permit alerts in the operating system. For desktop alerts, check browser permissions, focus modes and notification muting.
- Verify the ticker: Confirm the exchange, share class and currency. An alert on a foreign listing may not correspond to the U.S.-listed security you intended to monitor.
- Review trading sessions: Read whether pre-market and post-market prices count. Extended-hours quotes can be less liquid and more volatile.
- Check the reference price: A percentage rule commonly uses the previous close, but the provider’s wording controls. Corporate actions can also change displayed prices and historical comparisons.
- Test safely: Create a temporary rule at a level clearly below the current quote, then confirm that it appears as active. Remove the test after verifying the notification path.
- Check recurrence: Some rules fire once and deactivate; others remain active or repeat. Inspect the status after a trigger instead of assuming it will continue.
- Monitor expiration: TradingView standard alerts expire after two months unless an eligible plan provides an open-ended option. Other services may have their own limits or removal behavior.
- Recheck after changes: Review alerts after a ticker change, merger, split, spin-off or app update. A symbol change can leave an old rule attached to an obsolete listing.
Common problems and fixes
No notification arrives
First check that the alert is still active and that the quote actually met the condition. Then check app, browser and operating-system permissions, battery-saving restrictions, sign-in status and email spam folders. A desktop sound alert cannot work when the computer is asleep, and a mobile push cannot arrive if notifications are blocked.
The alert fired at an unexpected time
Inspect the session setting and reference period. An extended-hours trade may have crossed your level, or a percentage rule may have been measured from the previous close rather than from the intraday price you were watching. Compare the trigger with the provider’s chart and quote timestamp.
The alert fired repeatedly
Check whether the rule is recurring, whether it triggers on every crossing or only once, and whether the stock moved back and forth across the threshold. Use a one-time alert for a single decision point or widen the condition if normal volatility is generating noise.
The stock is missing or the wrong company appears
Search by exchange and full company name, then verify the currency and listing details. Technology companies can have multiple listings and share classes. Delete the incorrect rule before creating a replacement so both do not remain active.
A fundamental alert looks wrong after earnings
Rapid earnings-related price changes can temporarily distort fundamental values. TradingView specifically warns that fundamental alerts may be inaccurate for a few hours after such moves. Wait for the provider’s data to update and verify the reported figures against the company’s latest filing or release before acting.
Use alerts without turning them into an automatic strategy
An alert only identifies a condition. It does not account for why the stock fell, whether the decline is broad-market or company-specific, how much liquidity is available, or whether your valuation assumptions still hold. Before placing an order, review the latest earnings, guidance, inventory and competitive developments that matter for the company.
For semiconductor stocks, a sector-wide decline may reflect interest rates, demand expectations or supply-chain news, while an individual decline may involve a product delay, customer concentration, export restriction or margin change. A notification is the starting point for that investigation, not its conclusion.
Which platform should you choose?
- Choose TradingView when you need watchlist alerts, technical conditions, strategies, chart patterns, fundamental thresholds or several delivery channels. Plan around the two-month standard-alert limit unless your account supports open-ended alerts.
- Choose Yahoo Finance when you want the shortest path to a few custom mobile target-price push notifications and do not need complex conditions.
- Choose Fidelity when you already use its brokerage tools and want price or previous-close percentage alerts alongside your account workflow.
Whichever service you use, start with the correct ticker, select absolute price or percentage deliberately, verify the market session and reference period, test the notification path and review the rule after it triggers. That process produces a prompt you can act on thoughtfully rather than a misleading signal.
