The most reliable way to catch a holiday deal is to track the exact product configuration you would buy, set a price you can afford, and check the item’s price history when an alert arrives. Google Shopping can send push and email notifications, Amazon offers app and Alexa deal alerts, and Amazon-focused trackers such as CamelCamelCamel and Keepa add historical charts so you can judge whether a discount is genuinely unusual.
Set watches before the named shopping event: holiday promotions can begin early, and an alert is useful only while the item, seller and notification channel are available.

Choose an alert service that matches where you shop
No single tracker covers every retailer or gives the same context. Retailer-native alerts are connected to that retailer’s own listings and may react quickly to changes there. History services are especially useful for deciding whether an advertised holiday price is actually low.
| Service | Retailer coverage | Target price | Alert channels | Variant and seller checks | Price history | Availability notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Shopping | Products surfaced in Google Shopping | Optional target price | Push notifications and email | Select size or color when the product card offers those choices; confirm the seller after the alert | Not stated in Google’s documented setup | Documented for signed-in users in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and India; features can vary by device or Google surface |
| Amazon app and Alexa for Shopping | Amazon listings | Price or deal alert through the current product or Alexa flow | Amazon app and Alexa updates | Controls and the offer shown can vary by device, account and market | Alexa can answer whether an item was cheaper last Black Friday; depth depends on the current experience | Follow the prompt currently shown on your device or account |
| CamelCamelCamel | Amazon listings | Set a target price for the selected offer or condition | Choose an available channel in the current interface | Select the relevant offer or condition when available; recheck seller and condition at purchase | Price-history charts | Free Amazon price tracker; interface and available channels can change |
| Keepa | Amazon listings | Set a threshold for the listing and condition | Enable an available notification channel | Choose the Amazon listing and condition; extension permissions and notification settings are part of setup | Price-history charts; Keepa says it tracks more than 7 billion Amazon products | Use the website or browser extension; listing, account and notification behavior can vary |
For a purchase that matters, using one retailer-native alert and one history tracker gives you two different signals: one tells you that the retailer’s price moved, while the other helps you decide whether the new price is exceptional.

Set a price watch in Google Shopping
Google’s documented flow is short, but the product card matters: tracking the wrong capacity, color or seller can produce an alert you cannot use.
Before you start
- Sign in to the Google account that should receive the alerts.
- Use Google Shopping on a supported surface. Google documents price tracking for signed-in users in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and India, with features varying by device or Google surface.
- Know the exact configuration you want, such as a 1 TB drive instead of the 512 GB version or a specific clothing size.
Exact setup path
- Search for the product or category in Google.
- Open the product card for the item you want to monitor.
- Tap Track price.
- Select a size or color if the card asks you to choose one.
- Optionally enter a target price. Set a number you would genuinely pay rather than choosing an arbitrary percentage discount.
- Tap OK.
Google says the confirmation reads: “You’ll get a confirmation that says ‘You’ll get push notifications and emails on price drops and related content.’” That wording means the watch can include related content as well as a price change, so read the notification before assuming the exact item reached your target.
Change or stop Google notifications
Adjust alerts in the Google app notification settings, or use the change-notification-settings link in a Google alert email. If a notification does not arrive, first verify that you are signed in to the same account used to create the watch and that both push notifications and email delivery are enabled on the relevant device and account.

Amazon supports product-specific alerts through its shopping app and Alexa for Shopping. The exact controls can differ by device, account and market, so use the prompt displayed on your current product page or Alexa experience rather than relying on an old menu path.
Amazon app flow
- Open the Amazon shopping app and sign in.
- Open the product page for the exact item and configuration you intend to buy.
- Look for the current price-alert or deal-alert prompt and follow it to enable updates.
- Confirm that the selected offer, condition and seller match what you want. A product page can contain new, used or marketplace offers with different prices.
- Keep the app’s notifications enabled while you are waiting for the holiday promotion.
Amazon describes the feature as a way to receive an update when the price drops. The prompt, eligibility and timing can vary, so treat the alert as a signal to open the listing and verify the final offer rather than as a reservation of a price.
Ask Alexa for a deal watch
Alexa for Shopping accepts natural-language requests. Amazon’s examples include asking Alexa to alert you about deals on noise-cancelling headphones and asking whether an item was cheaper last Black Friday. Use a request that identifies the product category or item clearly, then review the confirmation Alexa provides and keep notifications available on the device or account connected to the request.
Track Amazon prices with CamelCamelCamel
CamelCamelCamel presents itself as a free Amazon price tracker. Its main advantage is the combination of an alert threshold and a chart showing how the listing’s price has changed over time.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Setup steps
- Copy the Amazon product URL for the item you are considering.
- Paste the URL into CamelCamelCamel’s tracker.
- Choose the relevant offer or condition when the interface presents more than one, such as new or used.
- Review the price-history chart before choosing a target.
- Enter the price at which you would actually buy.
- Select an available alert channel and save the watch.
When an alert arrives, compare the notified price with earlier lows on the chart. A holiday label or a large percentage-off message is not enough by itself: the chart can show whether the current price is lower than recent prices or merely a return to a normal level.
Rank #3
What to verify on the Amazon page
- The alert’s condition is the one you intended.
- The seller is acceptable and has not changed from the offer you evaluated.
- Shipping charges, coupons and stock status have not altered the effective price.
Track Amazon prices with Keepa
Keepa provides Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts. Keepa says it tracks more than 7 billion Amazon products, but the number of tracked products does not guarantee that every listing, seller or condition will behave the same way.
Setup steps
- Open the product in Keepa, or open the listing while using Keepa’s browser extension.
- Choose the Amazon listing and the condition you want to monitor.
- Set the price threshold that would make the purchase worthwhile.
- Enable an available notification channel.
- If you use the extension, review its requested permissions and confirm that browser and device notifications are allowed.
Use the chart to place a holiday promotion in context. Check whether prior drops were brief, whether the lowest prices applied only to a different condition, and whether the seller shown in the chart matches the seller at checkout.
Set a target price you can defend
An alert is only useful when its threshold reflects both your budget and the product’s actual history. “30% off” can be misleading if the reference price was temporary or if the discount applies to a different variant.
Start with the exact configuration
Record the details that affect price before creating a watch:
Rank #4
- Size, color, capacity, storage or memory configuration.
- New, used, refurbished or another condition.
- Retailer-sold versus marketplace seller, when the service distinguishes them.
- Any bundle, subscription or accessory requirement.
Variants can have independent prices. Tracking a product family, rather than the precise variant, can create an alert for a version you would not buy.
Use history and your budget together
- Write down the highest total you are willing to pay.
- Inspect a history chart when one is available and note realistic previous lows for the same condition and variant.
- Choose a threshold that is below your maximum and plausible given those earlier prices.
- Leave enough room for shipping, tax and any coupon requirement.
If no history chart is available, use your budget as the hard limit and treat the retailer’s alert as a prompt for manual verification, not proof that the price is unusually low.
Verify an alert before buying
Price alerts report a change, not a guaranteed checkout total. Open the alert immediately and run this check before placing the order.
- Match the item: confirm the title, model, size, color, capacity and other options.
- Match the condition: check whether the offer is new, used, refurbished or another condition.
- Match the seller: verify the retailer or marketplace seller shown on the current offer.
- Check stock: an alert can arrive after inventory has changed.
- Calculate the total: add shipping and tax, and check whether a coupon must be clipped or a membership is required.
- Compare the history: use CamelCamelCamel or Keepa when the listing is on Amazon to see whether the price is genuinely unusual.
- Recheck at checkout: confirm that the final total still matches the threshold you intended.
Do not assume that a notification reserves inventory or locks a price. The available offer can change between the alert and checkout.

Plan for Black Friday and other holiday events
Start watches early
Holiday promotions may begin before the named event. Create watches early enough to collect a useful history and leave notifications enabled through the promotion period. Waiting for the date printed in an ad can mean missing an earlier price drop.
Use a two-stage decision rule
- Alert stage: the service says the listing reached your target or moved down.
- Verification stage: you confirm variant, condition, seller, stock, shipping, tax, coupons and final total.
Only the second stage should trigger a purchase decision. This prevents a low headline price from overriding a higher delivered total or an unacceptable seller.
Keep comparisons realistic
Google reported in 2023 that eight in ten holiday shoppers considered finding a good deal important, and more than half planned to compare prices online. Comparison is most useful when every service is checking the same configuration and condition; otherwise, the lowest number may belong to a different product.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

For an Amazon purchase, a practical combination is one Amazon-native watch plus either CamelCamelCamel or Keepa. The native alert follows the retailer’s current offer, while the history tracker supplies context. For products discovered across several retailers, Google Shopping can provide a broader watch, subject to its country and device availability.
When one service is enough
- Use Google Shopping alone when the item is sold through a listing it can track and you only need a basic push or email notification.
- Use Amazon’s app or Alexa when you want an alert tied directly to your Amazon shopping account.
- Use CamelCamelCamel or Keepa alone when historical context is the deciding factor and the product is on Amazon.
When two services are worthwhile
- The purchase is expensive or time-sensitive.
- The product has many sellers or conditions.
- You need to distinguish a normal fluctuation from a rare low.
- You are worried that one service’s notification could be delayed or unavailable.
Do not set several unrelated thresholds for the same item without recording them. Different targets can make an alert seem contradictory when each service is watching a different seller, condition or variant.
Troubleshoot a missing or confusing alert
No notification arrives
- Confirm that the watch was saved and that you are signed in to the correct account.
- Check device-level and app-level notification settings.
- For Google, review the Google app settings or the change-notification-settings link in an alert email.
- For Keepa or another browser-based tracker, verify extension permissions and browser notification settings.
- Check whether the product, seller or market is still eligible for the watch.
The alert price is different from the checkout price
- Compare the seller and condition on the alert with the current offer.
- Look for shipping, tax, coupon or membership requirements.
- Check whether the listing switched to another size, color or capacity.
- Refresh the product page and recalculate the final total.
The deal disappeared
Inventory and seller offers can change, and the evidence for these services does not guarantee continuous stock or immediate delivery of every alert. If the item is unavailable, keep the watch active if you would still buy at the threshold, then check the listing again rather than raising your target impulsively.
