To alert yourself when a Sensex or Nifty stock reaches a price, open the instrument in an alert-enabled market app, choose the exact NSE or BSE symbol, select a price or percentage condition, set when it should fire, and enable phone or email delivery. For a fixed target use a price operator such as Greater than or Crossing; for a move such as 2%, use a percentage or channel condition. TradingView offers the widest documented set of conditions, while Kite provides broker-linked alerts and optional alert-triggered orders. The NSEIndia app is useful for official watchlists and market monitoring, but you should confirm its current custom-alert controls in the app.
Choose the alert that matches the decision you need to make
An alert is a rule attached to a particular symbol. When the incoming market data satisfies that rule, the service sends a notification through one or more channels. The rule is not a prediction and it does not guarantee that you can buy or sell at the displayed price; it is simply a prompt to check the market.

Fixed-price alerts
Use a fixed-price alert when a specific level matters. Examples include “notify me when Reliance Industries on NSE rises above ₹3,000” or “tell me when the BSE Sensex falls below 75,000.” TradingView describes these as alerts that trigger when price surpasses or reaches a specific price mark. Its documented operators are:

- Crossing up: fires when price moves from below the level to above it.
- Crossing down: fires when price moves from above the level to below it.
- Greater than: fires while price moves above the threshold according to the selected frequency.
- Less than: fires while price moves below the threshold according to the selected frequency.
Percentage and volatility alerts
Use a percentage condition when the size of a move matters more than an absolute rupee level. A “moving up 2%” rule can be applied to a stock, the Nifty index, or the Sensex, depending on the symbol you select. TradingView documents Moving up % and Moving down % over a specified number of bars. The reference is therefore tied to the selected chart interval and bar count, not necessarily to the previous trading day’s close.

Channel alerts
A channel defines an upper and lower boundary. TradingView provides Entering channel, Exiting channel, Inside channel, and Outside channel. Channels are useful when you want a notification only while price is in a zone, or when it leaves a range, rather than a notification for every small fluctuation.
Check the symbol, exchange and interval before creating anything
Search results often contain similarly named indices, futures, options and fund products. Select the cash index or stock you actually intend to monitor and confirm whether it is the NSE or BSE listing. An NSE stock symbol and a BSE code can show different quotes, trading hours or liquidity. A Nifty index alert is also different from an alert on a Nifty futures contract or an exchange-traded product that tracks the index.
- Read the full instrument name and exchange label in the quote or chart header.
- For an individual company, confirm that you selected the ordinary equity rather than a derivative series.
- For the broad market, distinguish Nifty and Sensex from sector indices and derivative contracts.
- Check the chart interval before using a percentage, indicator, drawing or strategy condition.
- Confirm that your phone allows notifications for the selected app and that battery-saving settings will not suspend it.
Alerts can be created outside market hours, but they will normally evaluate against the next available data. Decide whether you want a rule to act on intraday prices, bar closes or a longer-term chart before saving it.

- Open the chart or alert panel. Search for the exact Sensex, Nifty or stock symbol and select the correct exchange listing.
- Open the alert dialog. Use the chart’s alert control or the alerts panel, then verify the symbol shown in the dialog.
- Select Price as the condition. Choose Crossing, Crossing up, Crossing down, Greater than or Less than.
- Enter the level. Type the rupee price or index value at which the rule should fire. Do not add commas or a currency symbol if the field rejects them.
- Choose the frequency. Select a one-time trigger when you need a single prompt, or a bar-based or repeated option when the condition should continue to be evaluated.
- Set expiration. Standard alerts have a maximum lifetime of two months. Premium and Ultimate plans can use open-ended alerts according to TradingView’s documentation. Do not assume an alert will remain active indefinitely; inspect its expiry after saving.
- Name and describe the alert. Include the symbol, direction and purpose, such as “NIFTY below support—review hedge.” A clear message is more useful than a generic notification.
- Enable delivery channels. TradingView lists app notification, browser pop-up, email, webhook, sound and plain text. Select at least one channel you will actually monitor, then save the alert.
After saving, open the alerts list and check the status, expiry and condition. A test notification is useful for verifying permissions, but it does not test whether a future market price will satisfy the rule.
Set a 2% move or another volatility alert in TradingView
A request such as “notify me when Nifty moves 2%” is incomplete until you define the direction, reference period and symbol. The following method avoids the most common ambiguity.
- Select the index or stock. Choose the exact Nifty, Sensex or equity symbol and confirm the exchange.
- Open the alert condition menu. Choose a percentage condition such as Moving up % or Moving down %, or choose a channel condition if you want a price range.
- Enter the percentage and bar count. Specify 2% (or another threshold) and the number of bars over which the move is measured. A five-minute chart with six bars measures a different window from a daily chart with six bars.
- Choose the interval deliberately. Technical and percentage calculations use the chart interval. A rule created on a 15-minute chart does not mean the same thing as one created on a daily chart.
- Set the trigger frequency and expiry. Use once for a single event, once per bar close when you want confirmation at the close of each bar, or a repeated option only when repeated messages are genuinely useful.
- Add a message and delivery method. State the interval and direction in the text, for example, “NIFTY down 2% over 12 five-minute bars.”
For a range, enter upper and lower channel boundaries and choose Outside channel to detect a breakout or Inside channel to detect a return to the zone. Entering channel and Exiting channel are better when the first boundary transition is the event you care about.
Important TradingView maintenance rule
Existing technical alerts retain the indicator, drawing or strategy settings present when they were created. If you later edit an indicator’s parameters, the old alert does not automatically adopt those changes. Edit or recreate the alert and then verify the condition in the alerts list.

Set a real-time alert in Zerodha Kite
Kite documents real-time alerts based on price, volume and percentage changes. This is useful when your watchlist and execution account are in the same broker application.
- Open the instrument. Find the NSE or BSE stock or index in Kite’s watchlist or search, then open its quote or instrument view.
- Choose Set alert. Start the alert workflow from the instrument rather than from a similarly named contract in another list.
- Select the data point. Choose price, volume or percentage change, depending on what you want to observe.
- Select the operator. Choose the available comparison direction, such as above or below, and enter a value or a percentage of the last price as requested by the form.
- Save and review. Confirm the symbol, threshold and active status in the alerts list. Kite documents delivery through its web or app interface and email notifications.
Kite also separately documents Alert Triggers Orders, which can place a linked order when a Kite alert fires. This is an execution feature, not merely a notification. A trigger can be followed by slippage, a gap, rejected order, insufficient funds or a fast move through the intended price. Use it only after understanding order type, quantity, validity, margin and the conditions under which the linked order will be cancelled or rejected. A notification alert is the safer starting point for a new user.
Use the NSEIndia app for official market monitoring
The official NSEIndia mobile app includes watchlists, portfolios, quotes, price movements and intraday graphs. It can serve as a direct exchange-data reference for Nifty-listed instruments and for checking a quote received from another service.
Custom-alert controls can change as the app is updated. Open the current app, add the instrument to a watchlist, inspect its quote or notification settings and verify whether a price or percentage rule is available in your version. If the app offers only monitoring views, use it as the official reference and create the actual rule in a platform that documents custom alerts.

Third-party BSE and NSE alert dashboards
Some independent dashboards advertise BSE and NSE coverage with email, Telegram, Android and browser alerts. Before entrusting a long-running rule to one, check:
- Which exchange feeds and instruments are actually covered.
- Whether quotes are real-time, delayed or subject to a subscription.
- How the service handles corporate actions, symbol changes and trading halts.
- Its alert expiry, message limits and data-retention policy.
- Whether phone, browser and Telegram notifications require separate permissions.
- How it reports outages and whether there is an audit trail of triggered alerts.
Do not assume that an advertised channel means the alert is guaranteed to arrive. Keep a second source for critical monitoring and verify the service’s current pricing and data terms before relying on it.

Design alerts that are useful instead of noisy
Use two levels for a decision
For a support or resistance plan, create one alert near the level where you want to pay attention and another beyond the level where the market view changes. Use different names and messages so the first notification prompts a review while the second signals a possible action.
Separate intraday and end-of-day rules
An intraday alert should specify its short chart interval and whether it can repeat. An end-of-day rule should use a daily interval or a once-per-bar-close setting. Mixing the two can produce a notification that is technically correct but irrelevant to your strategy.
Best Value
Control repeated triggers
Choose once for a one-time threshold crossing. Choose once per bar close when temporary intrabar spikes should not count. Use repeated triggering only when every qualifying event matters; otherwise a volatile stock can fill your phone with duplicate messages.
State the reference in the message
Include the exchange, symbol, direction, threshold and interval in the message. “BSE SENSEX crossing down 75,000 on a daily close” is actionable; “alert fired” is not.
Troubleshoot a missing or unexpected notification
The alert never fired
- Recheck that the selected symbol is the intended NSE or BSE instrument.
- Look at the alert’s expiry and active status.
- Confirm the market actually traded through the level; a chart display or indicative quote may not satisfy the rule.
- Check whether the condition waits for a bar close rather than intrabar movement.
- Review phone, browser and email permissions, including spam and battery-optimization settings.
The alert fired too often
- Change a repeated frequency to once or once per bar close.
- Widen a narrow channel or increase the percentage threshold.
- Use a higher chart interval if short-term noise is not relevant.
- Disable duplicate delivery channels when one notification path is sufficient.
The alert uses an old indicator setting
On TradingView, edit or recreate the alert after changing an indicator, drawing or strategy parameter. Existing technical alerts keep their original configuration.
The price looks different across apps
Confirm exchange, instrument type, timestamp and whether one quote is delayed. NSE equity, BSE equity, an index value and a derivative contract are not interchangeable references.
Safety checks before relying on an alert
- Keep alerts as prompts for review, not as proof that a trade is appropriate.
- Account for gaps, spreads, liquidity, circuit limits and delayed data.
- Never assume a notification service can place an order unless its execution feature is explicitly documented and configured.
- For linked orders, verify quantity, order type, margin, validity and cancellation behavior before enabling them.
- Review long-running alerts after symbol changes, corporate actions, app updates and plan expiry.
- Maintain a manual watch or backup notification method for decisions that cannot wait for one app.
The most reliable setup is explicit: exact exchange symbol, condition matched to the question, interval and frequency written into the rule, a known expiry, and at least one notification channel that you have tested on your phone.
