Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse two different alert systems because they track two different markets: a charting service for WTI or Brent crude benchmarks, and a location-based fuel service for the prices at stations near you. A crude alert can tell you when an upstream benchmark reaches a level, while a local service tells you what drivers can actually pay. Neither replaces the other.
For the most control, create a threshold alert on the exact WTI or Brent symbol you follow, select the direction and expiry, and enable a delivery channel you will notice. For gasoline, subscribe to AAA’s fuel-price emails, use GasBuddy to monitor nearby stations and deals, or use a commodity app that supports custom push alerts. The sections below show how to set each option up and how to interpret the signals together.

What a crude-oil alert and a gasoline alert actually measure
WTI (West Texas Intermediate) and Brent are benchmark crude prices quoted in financial markets. An alert on either benchmark fires when the quoted instrument reaches your chosen level. The quote may be for a particular futures contract month, a spot-style feed, or another instrument that uses the benchmark name. Its currency, contract month, trading hours and data delay matter.
A local gasoline alert measures retail prices reported by stations or summarizes prices in a region. It reflects refining, wholesale distribution, taxes, transport costs and local competition in addition to the cost of crude. A station’s price can therefore move before or after a crude benchmark, and it may not move by the same amount.

How to set a WTI or Brent price alert
TradingView’s help documentation describes the basic behavior this way: “Price alerts trigger when the price surpasses or reaches a specific price mark.” The labels below follow that workflow; names can vary slightly by device or account tier.
1. Select the exact instrument
- Open your charting service and search for the benchmark you intend to follow: WTI or Brent.
- Choose the precise symbol rather than a similarly named fund, spread or company. If several futures contracts appear, note the contract month.
- Check the quote currency and determine whether the feed is real-time or delayed. A delayed quote can make an alert arrive after the market first touched your level.
- Confirm the market’s trading hours. An alert that is valid only during regular hours behaves differently from one that monitors overnight trading.
Record the symbol and contract month in the alert name. That prevents confusion when a futures contract rolls to a new month or when you track both benchmarks.
2. Choose the trigger condition
Open the symbol’s alert control and select the condition that matches your intent:
| Condition | Use it when | What causes the alert |
|---|---|---|
| Crossing | You care about contact in either direction. | The price reaches or crosses the level from above or below. |
| Crossing up | You want an upside break. | The price moves from below the level to the level or above it. |
| Crossing down | You want a downside break. | The price moves from above the level to the level or below it. |
| Greater than | You need a one-sided upper trigger. | The price is greater than your selected value. |
| Less than | You need a one-sided lower trigger. | The price is less than your selected value. |
Use “crossing up” or “crossing down” for a first-break notification. Use “greater than” or “less than” when the continuing state matters and you do not want the opposite direction to qualify.

3. Enter the price level and frequency
- Enter the threshold in the instrument’s quote currency and precision. Do not copy a dollar level from a different currency or contract without converting and checking it.
- Select whether the alert is one-time or recurring. A one-time alert is useful for a decision you will make once; recurring alerts are appropriate for an ongoing watch.
- Set an expiration or timer. Include the date and time in the alert name if the level is tied to an event, a hedge or a planned purchase.
- Add a clear name and an optional message, such as “Brent below planning level—check local gasoline.”
TradingView’s setup documentation includes one-time or recurring triggers, an expiration, a name and a custom message. If your service offers fewer choices, use the closest equivalent and review the active-alert list after saving.
4. Select delivery channels you will actually see
Enable one or more channels in the alert dialog or notification settings: mobile-app notification, browser pop-up, email, webhook, sound or plain text. A sound may be useful during market hours; email is easier to archive; a webhook can feed an internal system. Test the channel with a low-consequence alert before relying on it for a time-sensitive decision.
Check operating-system permissions as well. A correctly configured alert can appear silent if the app is blocked from sending notifications, the browser is closed, battery optimization is enabled, or an email rule moves the message to a filtered folder.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems5. Verify and maintain the alert
- Open the service’s active-alert list and confirm the symbol, contract month, condition, level, frequency, expiry and delivery method.
- Look at the chart and make sure the horizontal level is on the intended instrument, not a second symbol with a similar name.
- After a contract roll, a major market move or a change in your decision, edit or delete stale alerts.
- Keep the number of active alerts small enough that important notifications are not buried in routine messages.
Using two crude levels for situational awareness
When you want context rather than a single trade signal, place one alert above the current price and one below it. The upper level can flag a rising-cost scenario; the lower level can flag a falling-cost scenario. Give each a directional condition and a defined expiry. Revisit both levels after a large market change so they remain meaningful instead of generating noise long after the original decision.

Monitoring several crude symbols with a watchlist
TradingView also supports watchlist alerts. One condition can be applied independently to every symbol in a list, so you can monitor WTI and Brent together or follow several contract months without creating each alert from scratch. Verify each symbol’s currency, contract month and delay before interpreting a notification; a watchlist condition does not make unlike instruments interchangeable.
Ways to receive local gasoline-price updates
AAA email fuel-price updates
AAA’s Fuel Prices page offers an email subscription for fuel-price updates and news alerts. This is the simplest option when you want a periodic regional or national update rather than a programmable cents-per-gallon trigger.
- Open the Fuel Prices section and locate the email subscription form.
- Enter your email address and complete any confirmation step.
- Choose the available fuel-price or news categories, if the form presents separate choices.
- Add the sender to your contacts or safe-sender list so the update is not lost in spam.
The page displayed “Today’s AAA National Average $4.3344,” with “Price as of 10/15/26,” when checked for this guide. That number is a dated national-average display, not a promise about a station near you and not a perpetual price. Treat every email’s date, geography and fuel grade as part of the figure.
GasBuddy for nearby stations and time-limited deals
GasBuddy’s Find Gas workflow is designed to locate stations and compare reported local prices. It is useful when your decision is “Where is gasoline cheaper near me?” rather than “Alert me whenever gasoline falls by exactly 10 cents.”

Its documented Flash Deals are activated in the app and start a four-hour countdown. You must fill up before the countdown ends and follow the applicable receipt or payment rules. A Flash Deal is a deal notification, not a user-defined threshold alert, so it should not be presented as a substitute for a custom price trigger.
- Open the station-finder workflow and allow location access or enter a city, ZIP code or address.
- Compare stations using the same fuel grade; regular, midgrade, premium and diesel are not interchangeable prices.
- Check the timestamp or reporting age before driving to a station. A recently changed pump price may not yet be reflected.
- For a Flash Deal, activate it in the app, read the four-hour expiry and payment or receipt requirements, then complete the purchase within that window.
Commodity apps with gasoline-context alerts
The Oil Prices Live App Store listing advertises WTI and Brent tracking, 30-minute updates in its free version and custom commodity alerts delivered by push notification. Those are useful features if you prefer a mobile dashboard, but app-store descriptions and plan limits can change. Verify current availability, alert limits, update frequency and any paid requirements on the listing before depending on it.
A commodity app still follows market benchmarks unless it explicitly supports station-level data. Confirm that the alert is attached to the instrument you want and do not assume that a WTI or Brent push notification represents a local pump price.

Why a crude alert does not predict your pump price
Crude is only one input into gasoline pricing. The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s petroleum-price handbook says its forecasting method relates U.S. motor-gasoline wholesale prices more strongly to Brent crude than to WTI. That relationship is useful for interpreting direction, but it is not a station-level conversion formula.
Best Value
Several forces can delay, amplify or offset a crude move:
- Refining margins: the spread between crude costs and the value of refined gasoline changes with refinery capacity, outages and product demand.
- Taxes: federal, state and local taxes differ by jurisdiction and may not change when crude does.
- Transport and storage: pipelines, terminals, trucking distance and inventory levels affect the delivered wholesale price.
- Seasonality: gasoline formulations and driving demand change during the year.
- Local competition: nearby stations can respond differently to wholesale changes, promotions and traffic patterns.
- Retail timing: a station may hold its posted price until its next delivery or adjustment cycle.
For that reason, pair a crude alert with a local-price source. A Brent alert can tell you to watch for pressure on wholesale gasoline, while a station feed tells you whether the change has appeared where you drive.
A practical two-layer alert plan
For a household trying to time a fill-up
- Choose one crude benchmark, preferably the one you use consistently, and create an upper and lower alert around levels that would change your attention.
- Subscribe to a local gasoline update or check nearby stations through a station-finder app.
- When the crude alert fires, do not immediately assume the pump price has changed. Check local reports, the report time and the same fuel grade you normally buy.
- Compare at least two nearby stations and include the driving distance. A small posted-price difference can disappear through extra fuel and time.
- Record the date, crude level, local price and station. After several observations, you will see how quickly your area tends to reflect market moves without treating the result as a guaranteed rule.
For a fleet or business monitoring fuel exposure
- Use a benchmark alert with a named contract month, currency and expiry so the trigger is auditable.
- Set a recurring alert only while the underlying decision or budget period remains active.
- Use email for an audit trail and a second channel, such as an app notification or webhook, for urgent awareness.
- Track local wholesale or retail observations separately from the benchmark. Do not mix a national average with a station-specific cost in the same threshold.
- Review alert levels when contracts roll, budgets change or the business’s delivery region changes.
Choosing useful levels
A level should correspond to a decision. For example, an upper crude threshold might prompt a review of a fuel budget, while a lower threshold might prompt a check for cheaper local stations. Avoid setting many closely spaced levels simply because the service permits them; repeated notifications make it harder to recognize the one that matters.

Common failure modes and fixes
The alert never arrives
- Confirm that the alert is active and has not expired.
- Check the exact symbol, contract month and condition. A “crossing down” alert will not fire on an upward move.
- Check whether the quote is delayed or whether the market is closed.
- Enable app, browser or email permissions and review spam, battery-saver and do-not-disturb settings.
- Create a test alert near the current quote, then remove it after confirming delivery.
The alert fires repeatedly
- Change a recurring condition to one-time if you need only the first touch.
- Use a directional condition instead of a two-way crossing when the opposite move is irrelevant.
- Add an expiry and delete levels that no longer represent a decision.
- Check whether a volatile price is moving back and forth across the same threshold; widen the spacing between levels if appropriate.
The quote looks wrong
- Compare the currency and decimal precision with the value you intended.
- Check the contract month and whether the service rolled to a new contract.
- Look for delayed-data labels and the timestamp of the last update.
- Make sure you did not select a fund, spread or different commodity symbol with a similar name.
The crude alert fired but local gasoline did not change
This is normal. Verify the benchmark (Brent or WTI), the direction and the time of the move, then check refining, tax, transport, inventory and local-competition effects. Use a station-level source for the actual retail decision rather than expecting a one-for-one pass-through.
A station price is lower, but the deal is unusable
For a time-limited promotion, read the activation method, four-hour countdown, receipt requirements and payment conditions before driving. A displayed deal is not the same as a standing price and may expire before you arrive.
Quick Recap
Accuracy and privacy checks before relying on notifications
- Identify whether a number is a benchmark quote, a futures contract, a national average, a regional average or a single station’s reported price.
- Keep the measurement date and timestamp with every important figure.
- Use the same fuel grade when comparing stations.
- Confirm app-store availability and current plan limits for mobile commodity alerts; advertised features can change.
- Review notification permissions, connected webhooks and email forwarding rules, especially if alerts reach a work system.
- Do not treat an alert as an instruction to buy, sell or refuel. It is a notification that a defined condition occurred.
Recommended setup at a glance
- Benchmark layer: select WTI or Brent, verify currency, contract month and delay, then create directional or one-sided alerts with an expiry.
- Local layer: subscribe to AAA email updates for broad context and use GasBuddy’s station finder for nearby prices.
- Optional mobile layer: use a commodity app with custom push alerts only after confirming its current update interval and plan limits.
- Interpretation: treat Brent or WTI as an upstream signal, then verify the retail price, fuel grade, timestamp and station location before acting.
