An alert only tells you that a condition was met. It does not buy or sell cryptocurrency automatically.
The steps differ between an exchange app, an independent tracker and a charting service. The guide below covers Coinbase, Binance, Kraken, TradingView and CoinGecko, then shows how to verify an alert and fix missed notifications.

What a cryptocurrency price alert does
A price alert watches a selected market and sends a notification when your rule is met. Depending on the platform, the rule may be a fixed price, a move above or below a level, a percentage change, or a chart condition. The notification can be a phone push, in-app message, email, browser pop-up, sound or webhook.
An alert is not an order. Coinbase’s official help describes the feature this way: “Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. They do not place an order for that asset.” If you want to trade, you must review the market and submit an order separately.

Check these details before creating an alert
- Asset: Confirm the coin, ticker and network. Several assets have similar names or symbols.
- Market or pair: Select the exact market you intend to follow, such as BTC/USD or BTC/USDT. A venue-specific pair can show a different price from another venue.
- Quote currency: A BTC/USD threshold is not the same as a BTC/USDT threshold, even when the numbers appear close.
- Direction: Decide whether the alert should fire when price rises above, falls below, reaches or changes by a percentage.
- Frequency: Choose one-time, recurring or the platform’s available trigger frequency.
- Expiry: Check whether the alert ends after triggering or after a set period.
- Delivery: Verify the service’s notification setting and your phone, browser or email permissions.
Write the rule in plain language before entering it. For example: “Notify me once when BTC/USDT falls below 60,000” is less ambiguous than entering a number without recording the pair, currency and direction.

Settings and availability can change by region, app version, account type and product. Treat the figures in the table as the documented settings at the dates noted below, not permanent guarantees.
How to set a Bitcoin alert in Coinbase
Coinbase’s documented custom-alert workflow is in its mobile app. Only assets added to your watchlist send these alerts.

- Select the asset and tap the star to add it to your watchlist.
- Open the watchlisted asset and tap the bell-plus icon.
- Choose whether the target is above or below the current price.
- Enter the target price and save the alert.
- Open Account & Settings, then Notification Settings, and enable the desired push, in-app and/or email delivery methods.
Check that the asset remains watchlisted after saving. If the alert does not appear, revisit Notification Settings and the phone’s system notification permission; both the account setting and device permission can affect delivery.
How to set an alert in the Binance app or desktop app
Mobile app
Binance says the alert feature in its mobile app is available only in Binance Pro. Its help article was updated January 6, 2026; menu labels, caps and availability may change.

- Switch to Binance Pro if the app is in another mode.
- Open Markets and search for the exact trading pair, such as the BTC pair and quote currency you intend to monitor.
- Open the pair and tap the Alert icon.
- Select an alert type: price reaches, rises above, drops to, percentage change above or below, or a 24-hour percentage-change condition.
- Enter the price or percentage, choose the frequency, and create the alert.
- In your phone’s system settings, allow notifications for the Binance app.
Desktop app
- Open the desktop app and locate the Alerts control.
- Choose Create Alert.
- Select the pair, condition, threshold and frequency, then save.
Binance capacity and expiry
The January 6, 2026 support article states a maximum of 10 alerts per trading pair, 50 alerts in total and a 90-day validity period. Those are product settings, not market statistics. If an alert disappears after 90 days or cannot be added, review the current in-app limits and recreate it when necessary.
How to create a market alert in Kraken
Web
- Open the Kraken trading interface and look for the Alerts widget.
- If it is not visible, add the widget to the layout using the interface’s layout controls.
- Create a market alert for the selected instrument, then enter the target and save.
Mobile
- Open the relevant market in the Kraken app and use its alert control.
- Set the price condition and save it.
- Enable push notifications for Kraken in the phone’s system settings.
- Also enable price-alert push notifications inside the Kraken app.
Kraken’s help page was last updated January 20, 2026. Confirm whether you are using a spot or futures interface: alert links and available controls can differ between market types. The cited instructions do not state a universal alert count or expiry, so check the screen shown for your account.

How to set a chart alert in TradingView
- Open a chart for the exact cryptocurrency and market you want to monitor.
- Create a new alert and make the primary condition Price.
- Choose the price operator, such as crossing, rising above or falling below, and enter the price level.
- Set the trigger frequency and expiration in the alert configuration.
- Choose delivery actions: app notification, pop-up, email, webhook and/or sound.
- Save the alert and confirm that the TradingView mobile app is installed if you selected app delivery.
Desktop notifications also depend on browser and operating-system permissions. TradingView says the number of active alerts depends on your plan, so do not assume a limit from another account or an older plan page. If you reach the limit, edit or delete an unused alert or review the current plan terms.
How to create custom alerts in CoinGecko
Custom target or percentage alert
- Open the coin’s page in the CoinGecko app.
- Tap the alarm control.
- Enter a custom target number or select a preset percentage.
- Choose whether the notification should be one-time or recurring when that option is presented.
- Save the alert and allow device notifications.
CoinGecko’s custom-alert support article was last updated October 2, 2026. Its mobile tutorial describes both one-time and recurring notifications, but it does not state a single universal expiry for every custom-alert configuration.
Automatic Auto Price Alerts
CoinGecko also has a separate Auto Price Alerts feature. When enabled, selecting a coin search result in the app can subscribe you to movement notifications. These automatic alerts expire after 45 days, require device notifications and can be turned off in Notification Center. They are different from a manually selected target price, so do not use the automatic feature when you need a precise BTC level.

Choosing the right alert service
Use an exchange alert for a market you trade there
An exchange app is convenient when you already use that venue and want an alert tied to its displayed pair. Confirm the quote currency and pair before saving. The notification still does not guarantee that an order can be filled at that price; it only reports the condition on that service’s market.

A charting service is useful when you need a specific price operator, trigger frequency, multiple delivery channels or a webhook. Check the active-alert allowance for your plan before building a large set of rules.
Use an independent tracker for broad monitoring
An independent tracker can be practical when you follow many coins or want a quick watchlist outside an exchange. Verify which market the tracker uses and whether the alert is a fixed target, a percentage movement or an automatic subscription. A price shown by one service may not match another venue at the same moment.
Build alerts that are hard to misread
State the complete market in the alert name
If the platform allows names, include the pair and direction: “BTC/USDT below 60,000” or “ETH/USD above 3,500.” This prevents confusion when several similar alerts are active.
Use separate rules for separate decisions
Do not combine an upside target and a downside stop into one vague rule. Create two alerts with explicit directions and, if available, different recurrence settings.

Choose one-time versus recurring deliberately
A one-time alert is suitable for a planned review at a single level. A recurring alert is better for repeated crossings, but frequent market oscillations can produce repeated notifications. If a service offers trigger frequency or cooldown controls, set them before saving.
Set a useful expiration
Review long-running alerts periodically. Binance documents a 90-day validity period, while CoinGecko’s automatic movement alerts expire after 45 days. Other services may leave alerts active until you delete them or may apply plan-specific rules.

Saving an alert and receiving it are separate steps. Work through this chain:
- Confirm the alert appears in the platform’s active-alert list.
- Confirm the asset, pair, quote currency, direction and threshold.
- Check that the alert has not already triggered, expired or reached a platform cap.
- Allow notifications for the app in the phone’s operating-system settings.
- Enable the same delivery method inside the app or website.
- For browser alerts, allow notifications for the site and keep the browser’s permission active.
- For email, check spam, filtered folders and the address attached to the account.
- For TradingView app alerts, install the mobile app and allow its notifications; for desktop pop-ups, check browser and system permissions.
Battery-saving, focus and do-not-disturb modes can suppress a notification even when the service generated it. If timing matters, use a second delivery channel where the platform supports one, but do not assume two channels will arrive simultaneously.
Troubleshoot an alert that did not arrive
The alert is missing from the active list
It may not have been saved, may have expired, or may have been rejected because you reached a limit. Recreate it after checking the pair and current capacity. Binance’s documented limits are 10 per pair and 50 total, with 90-day validity.
The price looked right but the alert did not trigger
Check whether you selected “above” instead of “below,” used a percentage condition instead of a fixed price, or chose a different quote currency. Also check the platform’s displayed market: BTC/USD, BTC/USDT and venue-specific BTC pairs can diverge.
The alert triggered in the app but no phone notification appeared
Enable the app in system notification settings and inside the service. Kraken explicitly requires both levels; Binance also instructs users to enable phone notifications. Check focus, battery and data restrictions as well.
A TradingView alert is unavailable
Review the active-alert allowance for your plan, then delete or edit an unused alert. Confirm that the alert has an expiration date and that the chart symbol is the intended market.
CoinGecko notifications stopped after several weeks
If you used Auto Price Alerts rather than a custom target, the subscription may have reached its documented 45-day expiry. Re-enable it or create a custom target alert instead.
You expected an automatic trade
That expectation is incorrect for the features described here. An alert informs you; it does not submit an order. Review the notification and place any trade through the platform’s normal order process, after checking price, size, fees and risk.

- Use the official app or website and sign in with your normal account protections.
- Never give a person who contacts you through an alert email your password, recovery phrase or authentication code.
- Do not treat a notification as confirmation that a market is liquid enough for your intended order.
- Remember that alerts can be delayed, suppressed by device settings or triggered by a brief price movement.
- When monitoring a volatile asset, set a second alert for a materially different level rather than relying on one exact tick.

- Record the rule in plain language so you can audit it later.
- Remember that the alert is informational, not an automatic buy or sell instruction.
