An alert is only a notification—not a buy or sell order—so you still decide what to do after receiving it.
The exact controls differ by service. CoinGecko supports custom-price and percentage alerts, Binance supports pair-based price and movement conditions, and Coinbase requires the asset to be on your watchlist. The instructions below cover each service’s documented setup and the notification permissions that make delivery work.

What a crypto price alert does
A price alert watches a selected asset or trading pair for a rule you define. Typical rules include “notify me when the price is above this level,” “notify me when it falls below this level,” or “notify me after a specified percentage move.” When the condition is reached, the service sends a push, in-app, or email notification, depending on the options it provides.
The alert does not submit an order, reserve funds, or guarantee that you can trade at the displayed price. Coinbase Help describes alerts as “only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price.” Treat the message as a prompt to check the market and your own plan.

Choose the service and the exact market first
Alerts are tied to the asset or pair you select. Bitcoin quoted in U.S. dollars is a different market from Bitcoin quoted in euros or a stablecoin, and an altcoin’s price can differ between venues. Before saving an alert, confirm the coin name, ticker, quote currency, and (where applicable) exchange pair.

Prepare an alert that will be useful
Define the decision before the number
Write down what you intend to learn from the notification. A fixed level is useful when you are watching a planned entry, exit, support, or resistance area. A percentage condition is useful when the absolute price changes frequently or when you want the same rule across several coins. A daily-movement alert is useful for monitoring broad 24-hour changes rather than one exact price.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Check the quote currency and pair
Search for the exact coin and pair instead of assuming the first result is correct. On an exchange, two pairs for the same coin can have different prices and liquidity. If you are tracking Bitcoin against a specific currency, select that quote explicitly. The alert will follow the selected market, not every market where the coin trades.
Decide whether you need one notification or repeated reminders
Use a one-time alert when you only need to know about the next threshold crossing. Choose a recurring setting when you want a notification each time the condition is reached. Repeated alerts can become noisy, so use them for a rule you will actually act on or review.
Allow notifications before testing
There are usually two permission layers: the service’s own alert setting and the operating system’s permission to display notifications. Turn on both. Also check whether Focus, Do Not Disturb, battery-saving, or background-data restrictions are suppressing delivery. Push delivery is not useful if the phone blocks the app.
Set Bitcoin or altcoin alerts with CoinGecko
Website procedure
- Open CoinGecko and search for the coin you want to monitor.
- Open the coin’s page and select its alarm control.
- Enter a custom number or choose a percentage condition, as offered by the alert interface.
- Save the alert.
- Allow browser or device notifications if you want push delivery, and verify that your browser has permission to show them.
CoinGecko’s website documentation says a notification is sent when the selected level is hit. Confirm the displayed quote currency before saving; the alert belongs to the coin page and condition you selected.

Mobile-app procedure
CoinGecko’s mobile tutorial requires an account. The sequence is:
- Sign in or create the required CoinGecko account.
- Search for the coin and select the correct result.
- Tap the bell near the top of the coin page.
- Enter the target level.
- Choose the frequency: “Once” for a single notification or a recurring option to be notified each time the coin reaches the target.
- Save the alert.
- Enable CoinGecko notifications in the phone’s system settings if push messages are desired.
If a coin appears under several similarly named results, check its symbol and page details before tapping the bell. A correctly saved alert on the wrong asset is still the wrong alert.
Set alerts in Binance
Binance mobile app
Binance’s documented mobile alert flow is available in Binance Pro:
- Open the app in Binance Pro mode and go to Markets.
- Find and open the desired trading pair.
- Tap Alert.
- Select the alert type. Depending on the pair and current interface, this can include an above or below price threshold, a percentage change, or a 24-hour movement condition.
- Enter the price or movement condition.
- Choose the frequency.
- Create or save the alert.
- Enable Binance notifications in the device’s operating-system settings.
Because Binance alerts are pair-based, confirm both assets in the pair. A threshold for one quote currency will not automatically follow the same numerical level in another quote currency.

Desktop and mobile labels can change independently. If the alert panel is not visible, use the current Binance Support instructions from inside the product and confirm that you are signed into the intended account.
Binance limits and validity
Binance Support states that an account can have up to 10 alerts per trading pair and 50 alerts in total, with alerts valid for 90 days. These are operational settings, not industry-wide standards, and Binance may change them. If creation fails, review the number of active alerts and the expiration date shown in the current interface before changing the condition.
Set alerts in Coinbase
Coinbase’s mobile setup uses the watchlist as a prerequisite. Only watchlisted assets send alerts under the documented flow.

Check that the star remains active after leaving the asset page. Removing an asset from the watchlist can prevent the alert from being sent because Coinbase ties alert delivery to watchlisted assets.

Other option: CoinMarketCap notifications
CoinMarketCap’s notification settings support per-coin alerts, watchlist movement notifications, and global milestone preferences that include Bitcoin and Ethereum. The available instructions do not specify a complete creation sequence, exact frequency choices, or expiry rules. In the current app, open notification settings, select the coin or watchlist preference you want, and review every delivery toggle before saving. If a control is absent, consult the app’s current help rather than assuming that another service’s steps apply.
Choose the right trigger
Fixed price above or below a level
A fixed threshold answers a precise question: has this market reached the number I am watching? Use an above condition for a breakout or upside milestone and a below condition for a downside level. Set the number in the pair’s quote currency and check the decimal precision shown by the service.
Percentage change
A percentage condition follows movement rather than an absolute price. This can be more portable across coins with very different nominal prices. Binance documents percentage-change conditions, while CoinGecko’s website documentation describes choosing a percentage in its alert interface. The reference period and direction matter; read the wording before saving.
Twenty-four-hour movement
Binance documents 24-hour movement conditions. These notify you about a specified change over the displayed 24-hour window, which is different from reaching a lifetime or intraday price level. Use this trigger when the size of the day’s move matters more than one exact quote.
One-time versus recurring
CoinGecko’s mobile app explicitly offers “Once” and recurring alerts. Binance asks you to choose a frequency when creating an alert. Coinbase’s cited instructions do not state frequency choices. If the interface does not show a frequency control, do not assume the alert repeats; inspect its saved status and help text.
Compare services before committing to a workflow
Four questions usually determine whether a service fits your routine. First, does it list the exact coin or exchange pair you need? A coin-page tracker and an exchange pair can show different markets. Second, which trigger types are available: a fixed price, an above-or-below rule, a percentage move, or a 24-hour movement? Third, can the alert run once, recur, or expire after a stated period? Finally, can it reach you by push, in-app message, or email?

CoinGecko is the most direct choice when you want to start from a coin page and choose a custom price or percentage; its mobile app clearly distinguishes one-time and recurring alerts. Binance is better suited to users who need an exchange-specific pair, percentage conditions, or 24-hour movement rules, but its documented 10-per-pair, 50-total, and 90-day limits affect planning. Coinbase is convenient when your watchlist is already maintained and you want above-or-below price notifications through several delivery channels. CoinMarketCap can supplement a watchlist with coin alerts and Bitcoin or Ethereum milestone preferences, although its detailed controls depend on the current app.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Build a small, maintainable alert set
Start with only the conditions tied to a real decision. Label or document the coin, pair, direction, trigger type, frequency, and intended response in your own notes. When a target is no longer relevant, disable or delete it rather than allowing recurring messages to accumulate. This is especially important on Binance, where active-alert limits can block a new rule.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Review alerts after changing a watchlist, switching devices, or changing notification permissions. On Coinbase, removing an asset from the watchlist can stop delivery. On CoinGecko mobile, an account is required, and on every service the operating system can suppress otherwise valid notifications. A quick review of the saved alert and its permission status is more reliable than assuming the original setup remains intact.
Notification troubleshooting
The alert saved but no message arrived
- Confirm the asset or pair and the direction of the condition.
- Check that the target was actually reached under the service’s displayed quote, not merely on another exchange.
- Review the app’s internal notification settings.
- Check operating-system permissions, Focus or Do Not Disturb, battery restrictions, and background-data limits.
- For email delivery, inspect spam, promotions, and filtering rules.
- Look for an expiry or one-time status. Binance alerts can be valid for 90 days under the documented limits.
The app rejects a new alert
On Binance, count active alerts for the pair and account because the documented limits are 10 per pair and 50 total. On Coinbase, first add the asset to the watchlist. On CoinGecko mobile, confirm that you are signed into the required account. If all prerequisites are met, the service may have changed its limits or interface; check its current help.
Too many notifications
Delete or disable recurring alerts that no longer represent a decision. Prefer one-time thresholds for a single event and reserve percentage or 24-hour alerts for situations where repeated movement messages are useful. Keep a short list of active rules and review it when your plan changes.
Use alerts without confusing them with execution
An alert can arrive late, be delayed by network or device settings, or describe a condition that has already moved away by the time you open the app. It does not lock in a price. Before acting on a notification, open the relevant market, verify the current quote and pair, and apply your own risk and order procedure.
Do not give an alert service more account access than its normal setup requires. A notification does not need permission to place trades. Keep account security measures enabled and treat unsolicited messages that imitate alert emails as potentially fraudulent.
Best Value
A practical selection guide
- Choose CoinGecko when you want a coin-page alert with custom price or percentage input and, on mobile, a clear one-time or recurring choice.
- Choose Binance when the exact exchange pair matters or you need documented percentage and 24-hour movement conditions, while keeping its alert-count and 90-day limits in mind.
- Choose Coinbase when you already maintain a watchlist and want above/below price alerts with push, in-app, or email delivery.
- Consider CoinMarketCap when per-coin, watchlist, or Bitcoin/Ethereum milestone notifications fit your monitoring style and the current app exposes the controls you need.
Whichever service you use, the reliable sequence is the same: select the exact market, define a concrete condition, choose the frequency, save it, and enable every required notification permission. Then verify the saved alert before relying on it.
Final checklist
- Correct coin and, where applicable, trading pair selected.
- Quote currency checked.
- Above, below, percentage, or 24-hour condition chosen intentionally.
- Target value entered with the displayed precision.
- One-time, recurring, or frequency setting reviewed.
- Service-level notifications enabled.
- Phone, browser, or email permissions enabled.
- Expiry, watchlist requirement, or alert-count limit checked.
- Saved alert reviewed after creation.
- Remembered that the message is informational and does not place an order.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are crypto price alerts automatic buy or sell orders?
No. Coinbase Help says price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. You must open the market and place any order yourself.
Why did I receive no notification after the price moved?
Verify the selected coin or pair, quote currency, trigger direction, and whether the displayed market actually reached the target. Then check the service’s notification settings, operating-system permissions, Focus or Do Not Disturb, battery restrictions, background data, and email spam filters.
Recommended Free Tools
How many alerts can I create on Binance?
Binance Support states a maximum of 10 alerts per trading pair and 50 alerts in total, with 90-day validity. These operational limits can change, so confirm the current in-app help if a limit prevents creation.
Does Coinbase alert every asset I follow?
Under Coinbase’s documented flow, the asset must be on your watchlist. Search for the asset, tap the star, add the above-or-below price alert, and keep the asset watchlisted.
Can CoinGecko alerts repeat?
Yes. CoinGecko’s mobile app offers “Once” alerts and recurring alerts that notify you each time the coin reaches the target. Mobile setup requires a CoinGecko account.
What is the difference between a price and percentage alert?
A price alert watches an absolute level in the selected quote currency. A percentage alert watches a specified move, which can be more consistent across coins with different nominal prices. Read the service’s reference period and direction before saving.
