How to Set Parental Controls and Purchase Limits in Disney Magic Kingdoms

For Disney Magic Kingdoms, purchase protection is usually set where the payment is processed—not through a universal game PIN. On iPhone or iPad, block in-app purchases or require the Apple account password every time. On Android, make Google Play require authentication for every purchase on the device. If the game is played on Nintendo Switch or PlayStation, configure that console’s family controls; PlayStation provides a monthly spending limit, while Nintendo’s purchase restrictions depend on the supported features for the account and system.

The title “Disney’s new game” is ambiguous. The game-specific instructions available for this topic apply to Gameloft’s Disney Magic Kingdoms. Another Disney game may use different menus or account systems. Do not use Disney+ profile PINs or Junior Mode as substitutes for game-purchase controls.

Where the purchase is actually controlled

A child can start a purchase inside a game, but the charge is normally authorized by the store or console account attached to the device. That makes the account and payment route more important than the game’s title. Before changing a setting, identify whether the transaction would be billed through Apple, Google Play, Nintendo, PlayStation, or another store.

Platform Documented control Coverage and friction What is not established
iPhone or iPad Screen Time controls for in-app purchases and password requirements Block all in-app purchases, or require a password for each purchase A universal Disney Magic Kingdoms PIN or game-level spending dashboard
Android Google Play purchase authentication Require authentication for every Google Play purchase on the device A separate, game-specific allowance or PIN
Nintendo Switch Nintendo Switch console controls or the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app Restrict content, play time, selected features, and purchase functions where supported A guaranteed Disney Magic Kingdoms spending cap on every Switch setup
PlayStation Family Management and Monthly Spending Limit Set a monthly amount for a child account A game-specific PIN that operates independently of PlayStation family controls

Think of the settings in four dimensions: coverage (all store purchases or only a particular game), friction (a total block, password prompt, approval, or allowance), scope (one device, one child account, or a wider family account), and billing route (Apple, Google Play, Nintendo, PlayStation, or another storefront). A control cannot protect a transaction made through a different account or payment route.

iPhone and iPad: block purchases or require the password every time

Apple’s controls described for Disney Magic Kingdoms are in Screen Time. You can stop all in-app purchases, or leave them available while requiring authentication for each one.

Block every in-app purchase

  1. Open Settings on the iPhone or iPad.
  2. Choose Screen Time. If Screen Time is not active, turn it on first.
  3. Open Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Choose iTunes & App Store Purchases.
  5. Set In-App Purchases to Don’t Allow.

This is the clearest option when the goal is zero spending from the device. It blocks the purchase category rather than trying to identify individual items inside the game. The child can continue to play features that do not require an in-app transaction, but an attempted purchase should not be authorized while this restriction is active.

Require a password for each purchase

  1. Follow the same path: Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases.
  2. Open the password-requirement option.
  3. Choose Always Require.

Use this when a parent wants to approve individual purchases rather than ban them. The password prompt is an authorization checkpoint, not a spending limit: it does not establish a monthly allowance. Keep the account password private; if the child knows it, the prompt no longer provides meaningful separation.

Check the result on the correct Apple account

These settings protect purchases routed through the Apple account on that device. If the game is installed on several devices, check each device and the account signed in to each store. A restriction on one iPad does not automatically prove that a second device using another Apple account is covered. Recheck the setting after changing accounts, restoring a device, or updating system software because Apple can revise menu labels.

Android: require Google Play authentication for every purchase

On Android, the documented route is in the Google Play Store. The setting applies to purchases processed through Google Play on the device, which is broader than Disney Magic Kingdoms alone.

Turn on authentication for all Google Play purchases

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Open Menu, then choose Settings.
  3. Select Require Authentication For Purchases.
  4. Choose For all purchases through Google Play on this device.

With that choice, a purchase should require account authentication instead of silently using an already-authorized store session. It is useful when the parent wants to approve purchases one at a time while still allowing the game to offer paid content.

Be ready for an account-password check

If fingerprint authentication is enabled, Google Play may ask for the Google account password while the setting is being configured. That is part of setup, not evidence that the restriction failed. Complete the verification with the account owner’s credentials, then keep those credentials out of the child’s reach.

Confirm the billing path

The setting covers purchases made through Google Play on that device. It does not establish a universal Disney account limit, and it cannot govern a transaction billed through a different store or account. If a purchase screen identifies another billing provider, configure controls for that provider as well. Menu wording can change between Android and Play Store releases, so look for the authentication setting if the labels are not identical.

Nintendo Switch: use console or app-based family controls

Nintendo provides two places to manage a child’s Switch use: the controls built into the console and the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app. Nintendo describes these tools as able to restrict content, set play-time limits, and restrict selected features. Its overview also identifies purchase restrictions as a platform capability where supported.

Choose the control surface

  • Use the console controls when the Switch itself is the device you are configuring.
  • Use the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app when you want to manage the child’s Switch settings from a separate device.
  • Configure the child’s Nintendo account and the Switch profile that is used to initiate the purchase; a restriction attached to a different profile may not cover the transaction.

Nintendo’s purchase controls are platform controls, not a documented Disney Magic Kingdoms spending panel. The exact purchase options available can depend on the system, account arrangement, and current Nintendo software. If the purchase-restriction option is available in your setup, enable it alongside the content and feature restrictions appropriate for the child.

Do not confuse play-time limits with spending limits

A play-time schedule can stop access after a set period, but it does not by itself cap money spent while the child is allowed to play. Review the purchase-related option separately. If the console or app does not show one, check Nintendo’s current support instructions and the game publisher’s support page rather than assuming that a time limit protects payments.

PlayStation: add the child to Family Management and set a monthly limit

PlayStation places spending controls in its family-management system. The documented control is called Monthly Spending Limit and is listed with age, playtime, communication, and service controls.

Set the limit for the child account

  1. Open PlayStation’s family-management controls using the adult family account.
  2. Add the child to the family if the child account has not already been added.
  3. Select the child’s account in Family Management.
  4. Open Monthly Spending Limit.
  5. Enter the amount you are willing to make available for that child account during a month, then save the setting.

The limit belongs to the child account, so it is the account used for the purchase that matters. It is not a Disney Magic Kingdoms-only cap. If the game is opened under an adult account, that account’s available payment authority may apply instead of the child’s limit.

Pair spending with age and communication controls

A spending limit addresses money, while age-level and service controls address what the child can access. Review those settings separately. A low monthly amount does not replace content restrictions, and a content restriction does not create a budget.

What to do when no setting is obvious

The Federal Trade Commission advises checking both the game publisher and the device manufacturer when purchase controls are hard to find. Its consumer guidance says: “In-game purchase restrictions help you limit or block in-game spending.” The FTC describes three common functions: blocking spending, requiring a password, or setting a dollar limit.

For Disney Magic Kingdoms, the documented iOS and Android protections are store-level controls. The available information does not establish a universal in-game PIN, an allowance screen, or one spending dashboard that works on every platform. Treat the store or console family account as the enforcement point unless the specific game version’s current support documentation explicitly says otherwise.

Use the billing receipt to identify the right account

If a charge appears, inspect the receipt or transaction history to see whether Apple, Google Play, Nintendo, PlayStation, or another provider processed it. Then configure the control in that provider’s account. Searching only inside the game can waste time when the game is simply handing the transaction to the platform store.

Check for a different Disney title

Disney publishes and licenses multiple games. A control documented for Disney Magic Kingdoms should not be presented as proof that every Disney game has the same menu or purchase system. If the title, device, or store differs, look for that game’s current help page and the platform’s family controls before promising a specific PIN or limit.

Choose the right level of friction

Goal Best-fit control Trade-off
No purchases at all iOS: set In-App Purchases to Don’t Allow; use the strongest available store or console purchase restriction elsewhere Every purchase attempt is blocked, including legitimate parent-approved purchases until the setting is changed
Approve each item personally iOS: choose Always Require; Android: require authentication for all Google Play purchases Someone with the account password or authentication method could authorize a purchase
Allow a defined budget PlayStation: set Monthly Spending Limit for the child account The allowance is account-level and monthly, not a Disney Magic Kingdoms-only cap
Limit a child’s overall Switch access Use Nintendo Switch console controls or the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, including purchase restrictions where supported Available purchase features vary by the Nintendo setup; play-time controls alone do not set a budget

For a young child or a shared device, blocking is the least ambiguous choice. For an older child, an authentication prompt or account-level allowance can preserve controlled access without opening unrestricted spending. Pick one policy deliberately instead of assuming that a password prompt and a monthly limit are interchangeable.

Troubleshooting common failures

A purchase still succeeds after a restriction was enabled

  • Check whether the transaction used a different device, child profile, store account, or billing provider.
  • Confirm that the setting was saved and remains enabled after leaving the menu.
  • Review the receipt to identify the provider that authorized the charge.
  • Apply the restriction to the account and device associated with that provider.

The child knows the password or can use the fingerprint

A password requirement only works when the credential remains under the parent’s control. Remove saved credentials or biometric access that the child can use, then change the account password if it has been disclosed. Do not rely on the prompt as a barrier when the child can complete it independently.

The menu label is different

Apple, Google, Nintendo, and PlayStation can change navigation labels as their software evolves. Start from the platform’s family, Screen Time, purchase, or authentication settings rather than following an old screenshot. On Android, look for the setting containing “Require Authentication For Purchases.” On iOS, look under Screen Time and iTunes & App Store Purchases. On PlayStation, search Family Management for Monthly Spending Limit.

The game has no visible parental-control button

That is not proof that no protection exists. The documented controls for this game are primarily outside the game. Configure the store or console account first, then consult the publisher or device manufacturer if the platform does not expose the expected option.

A time limit was set, but spending remains possible

Play-time controls regulate access duration; they do not automatically create a financial limit. Return to the purchase settings and enable a block, authentication requirement, or monthly amount appropriate to the platform.

Pre-purchase checklist for parents

  1. Confirm that the game is Disney Magic Kingdoms; if it is another Disney title, verify that title’s current support instructions.
  2. Identify the device and the store that will process the charge.
  3. Identify the exact child or family account used to play and buy.
  4. Choose a policy: block purchases, require approval, or provide a defined allowance.
  5. Apply the platform setting using the current menu wording.
  6. Keep the account password, authentication method, and payment details away from the child.
  7. Check other devices and profiles that share the same game or payment account.
  8. Review receipts and account history after the first approved purchase.
  9. Recheck controls after changing accounts, devices, or major system updates.

The practical rule is simple: configure the account that pays. For iPhone and iPad, that means Screen Time’s in-app-purchase or password requirement. For Android, it means Google Play authentication for every purchase on the device. For Nintendo Switch and PlayStation, it means the console family system, with PlayStation’s Monthly Spending Limit available for a child account.
