To restart a sequence of recorded lessons after its final video, add the files to OBS Studio’s VLC Video Source and enable Loop Playlist in that source’s properties. Keep Shuffle Playlist off if the lessons must stay in order. This repeats the playlist; a standard Media Source’s Loop option repeats one file instead.
Set up a looping lesson playlist in OBS
- Install VLC if needed. The VLC Video Source requires VLC to be installed. Match the architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS lists the source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. OBS Project: Media Sources
- Add the source. In OBS, find the Sources dock, click +, and choose VLC Video Source. The Sources Guide describes adding sources through this plus button. OBS Project: Sources Guide
- Build the playlist. Open the VLC Video Source properties and add the lesson files in the order you want them to play. VLC Video Source supports multiple media items in a playlist.
- Enable the playlist loop. In the source properties, turn on Loop Playlist. OBS describes this setting as controlling whether the source restarts after it runs out of media files; once the final lesson finishes, playback returns to the first.
- Preserve lesson order. Leave Shuffle Playlist off. OBS documents shuffle as a separate option and lists it as off by default.
The OBS media documentation cited here is dated January 11, 2022. The setting names above are the documented labels; if you are following a different or newer OBS release, check the current source properties for their wording.

If you need more playlist editing controls
The built-in VLC Video Source is the straightforward choice for looping lessons. A third-party option, CodeYan’s Media Playlist Source, is listed in the OBS Forums resources. Its page lists playlist editing without restarting the video, plus shuffle and restart options. The page lists version 0.1.3 and Windows, macOS, and Linux; versions beginning at 0.1.0 require OBS Studio 31 or later. Because plugin versions and compatibility can change, check the current resource page before installing it.
