Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To loop several children’s videos in OBS, add them as a playlist in a VLC Video source and keep Loop Playlist enabled. OBS does not document this as an automatically watched folder: add new files to the playlist and check that they appear before streaming. For just one video, use a Media Source and enable Loop.
Choose the right OBS source
| What you want to repeat | OBS source | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| One video | Media Source | Enable Loop. |
| Several videos | VLC Video | Add the files as a playlist and enable Loop Playlist. |
| Still images | Image Slideshow | This source is for images, not video files. |
The VLC Video source uses VLC libraries for extended media support and requires VLC to be installed. See the OBS Media Sources guide and Sources Guide.

Set up a looping video playlist
- Install VLC. Match its architecture to OBS; the OBS guide specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS lists the VLC Video source for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Open the scene you plan to stream. In the OBS Sources panel, select +, then add VLC Video.
- Add the videos. In the source properties, use the playlist file-selection controls to add each video you want to rotate through. Check the list: the documented setup is a playlist, not a folder that automatically detects future files.
- Confirm looping and order. Leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS documents it as restarting the source after it runs out of media files; it is on by default. Shuffle Playlist is off by default, so playback is in playlist order unless you turn shuffle on.
- Check picture and sound. Inspect the scene preview and watch the audio meters in the mixer. The VLC source has an audio track setting. OBS recommends checking audio and testing settings before the first stream in its Quick Start Guide.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and create a stream. Go to Create → Go live and open the Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the connection details. Use the stream URL and stream key shown in the Live Control Room in OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key as a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Start OBS streaming and check the preview. Wait for YouTube’s Live Control Room preview, then confirm that both video and audio are working before you make the broadcast public.
- Test and monitor. YouTube recommends testing a stream; OBS also recommends a short test before the first real broadcast. Monitor the video and audio while live. When finished, stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; see its live streaming tips.
If this is your first time enabling live streaming on the channel, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Plan the first broadcast accordingly.

Children’s videos: check permission and audience settings
A working loop only confirms that OBS can play the files and send them to YouTube. It does not establish that you have permission to rebroadcast the videos or determine the correct audience designation, child-safety obligations, or monetization eligibility. Confirm rights to every video and review YouTube’s current rules for your channel and content before broadcasting. Do not assume that a video is cleared for streaming simply because it is available to watch or because it is aimed at children.

Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video is missing or does not load media: Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS; the OBS guide specifically calls for 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
- The playlist stops after the last item: Open the VLC Video source properties and verify that Loop Playlist is enabled.
- New files do not play: Add them to the playlist and confirm they appear there; do not rely on automatic folder monitoring.
- Videos play in an unexpected order: Check Shuffle Playlist. It defaults off, which gives ordered playback.
- YouTube receives no stream or the preview is blank: Recheck that OBS is using the stream URL and key from the correct Live Control Room stream. Wait for the preview and test picture and sound before going public.
- There is no audio: Check the VLC source’s audio track setting and watch the OBS mixer meters during playback.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps prerecorded videos playing without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera, and it streams to YouTube.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; one free day per account.
