Set microphone and music levels at their sources first, use the OBS mixer faders for final balance, and check the result by listening to a recording—not by chasing one universal meter number. For a long yoga stream, test the actual scene and setup before relying on it continuously; audio levels alone cannot guarantee that a home PC, power supply, or internet connection will stay up.
Set up the audio sources in the right order
Work from the sound source toward OBS. This makes it easier to fix distortion or noise where it begins instead of trying to disguise it later. The basic workflow is the same in India as elsewhere; there is no India-specific OBS audio-level setting established by the official guidance cited here.

- Identify what OBS is capturing. In the OBS Audio Mixer, distinguish the instructor microphone from music or desktop audio. Mute any source that should not reach the stream, then verify the intended sources in a test recording.
- Adjust the microphone at the source. If the mic has a physical gain control, begin there. Speak at the distance and intensity you expect to use during class. A clean input is a better starting point than trying to repair a noisy or already distorted signal with filters.
- Check the operating-system input. Inspect the recording-device and application volume controls. Some devices have a safe operating range below 100%, and behavior varies by device, so judge the signal OBS actually receives rather than assuming a particular system-volume number is right.
- Balance sources with the OBS mixer faders. Adjust the microphone and music separately. Test both quiet passages and the loudest voice or music section; do not set levels using only a calm opening moment.
- Listen to the monitored signal. Listen at the source and through OBS Audio Monitoring in Advanced Audio Properties. Headphones can reveal hum, noise, channel imbalance, pumping, or music that masks instruction. If monitoring has distracting latency, use it to diagnose the mix rather than treating the delayed sound as a timing reference.
- Record and review a representative session. Check loud phrases, soft speech, music transitions, and pauses. Play the recording on a separate phone or computer at an ordinary listening volume as well as checking it at the OBS desk.
OBS’s Audio Mixer Guide recommends recording a session as usual and listening back before going live: OBS Audio Mixer Guide.
Read the OBS meter without treating it as a loudness target
The OBS mixer meter is useful for spotting peaks and clipping, but it does not by itself tell you whether a yoga class sounds comfortable or whether speech is clear over music. OBS divides the meter into green, yellow, and red zones; its broad guidance is that speech should reach the lower end of red and background material should generally sit lower. That is meter guidance, not a yoga-specific loudness specification.

- The moving main bar is a peak-program meter.
- The black indicator approximates average loudness.
- The peak-hold marker retains the recent maximum for 20 seconds. After a loud phrase or musical transient, check whether it entered red.
OBS’s technical guide gives these calibration reference points, published in 2022. They explain digital headroom; they are not instructions to make every yoga stream hit a particular value:
- -20 dBFS: OBS Alignment Level, selected near average speech level in a calibrated equipment chain.
- -9 dBFS: OBS Permitted Maximum Level, with margin intended to reduce clipping risk from meter and alignment uncertainties.
- 0 dBFS: digital full scale, the maximum the output chain can handle. Keep the final signal below it to avoid clipping distortion.
For mostly musical content, keep ordinary passages comfortably below red and leave room for the loudest moment. The official sources cited here do not set a yoga-specific peak or integrated-loudness target for OBS streams. Choose the final balance by checking intelligibility and listening to the recording, not by forcing every source toward one number. See OBS Audio Mixer Technical Details for the calibration context.

Use filters only to address a problem you can hear
OBS includes audio filters such as gain, noise suppression, and noise gate. Treat them as corrective tools, not replacements for a clean source and sensible gain staging.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- A noise gate can reduce quiet room noise, but an aggressive gate may cut off soft speech or breathing.
- A compressor can reduce dynamic swings, but there is no single setting justified for every yoga voice, room, microphone, or music bed.
- If the input is distorted, noisy, or uneven, first check the source gain, operating-system input, and microphone placement. Adding processing may not fix the underlying problem.
OBS’s OBS Studio Overview Guide describes its audio tools and filters.

Set audio encoding for YouTube Live, if that is your destination
Audio level and audio encoding are different settings. If you are streaming to YouTube Live in stereo, YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3, 128 kbps audio, and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. It recommends RTMPS. Match sample rates across devices where practical and confirm OBS is using the intended audio device. OBS’s overview suggests around 160 kbps for streaming audio generally, or less if upload speed is constrained; that is general OBS guidance, not a replacement for YouTube’s platform-specific recommendation.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream and watching stream health during the event. Its guidance is at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. The video bitrate recommendations on that page concern video settings, not the correct audio level.

Test the full setup before a continuous run
A short audio check cannot establish that a particular Indian home PC, network, cooling arrangement, or power supply will run for 24 hours. Test the actual planned scene, audio, connection, and intended session duration. While live, watch the destination platform’s stream-health messages; separately listen from a viewer device to confirm the mix arrives as intended.

Troubleshoot common level and monitoring problems
| What you hear or see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Harsh distortion on loud speech or music | The input or final output is clipping, or source gain is too high. | Lower physical mic gain if available, check the operating-system input, then reduce the OBS fader as needed. Re-record the loudest passage and confirm the final signal remains below 0 dBFS. |
| Voice is hard to understand under music | The music is too prominent, the mic is too distant, or source balance changes across the session. | Test speech and the loudest music passage together. Adjust source levels and microphone position, then review the recording on another device. |
| Room noise is obvious during pauses | Noise is entering at the source or the input is set too high; a filter may also be needed. | Check the mic and source gain first. If using a gate, make sure it does not cut off quiet speech or breathing. |
| OBS monitoring sounds doubled or delayed | The same audio may be heard directly and through monitoring, or monitoring may introduce latency. | Listen to one path at a time while diagnosing and use a recording to judge the final result. |
| One stereo side is missing or noticeably different | The selected device, cable, or channel assignment may not match the intended input. | Check the selected OBS device and channel assignment, then verify both channels in a recording. |
| Audio is missing or the wrong sound is going out | The intended source may be muted, absent, or not the device OBS is capturing. | Check the Audio Mixer, source selection, and operating-system recording-device controls; make a short recording to confirm the intended channels. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a prerecorded yoga video playing continuously on YouTube, StreamNeo is an alternative to keeping a home PC running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera.
