Use a Fluxguard Inclusion Filter to keep one selected region and remove the rest of the page from monitoring. Let Fluxguard complete an initial crawl first, add the filter in Page Settings or Session Settings, then crawl again to verify that the intended region remains. If you want the whole page monitored but need to disregard a noisy area, use an Exclusion Filter instead.
Choose the right kind of filter
| Option | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Inclusion Filter | Keeps matching content and removes the rest of the page from the DOM. | Use when a specific region is the only part you want monitored. Multiple inclusion filters are allowed; Fluxguard says it stops matching further inclusion filters after one matches. Fluxguard documentation |
| Exclusion Filter | Removes matching regions from the DOM before capture. | Use when most of the page matters but areas such as a sidebar or header create noise. Filters can be set at page, session, or account level. Fluxguard documentation |
| Selector Ignore | Leaves the area in the capture but excludes it from HTML comparison. Selector Attribute Ignores can disregard changing attributes such as class or style. | Use when you want to preserve the captured page appearance while preventing an area or attribute from affecting comparison. This is available only with the HTML change detection strategy. Fluxguard documentation |
These approaches are not interchangeable. Inclusion and Exclusion Filters remove matched or unmatched content from the DOM, which can change the rendered page. Selector Ignore is applied after capture and before HTML comparison, so the area remains in the capture.

Set an Inclusion Filter
- Add the page and let its initial crawl finish. Use the captured baseline to check which region your selector identifies.
- Open the right settings scope. Use Page Settings for a filter on one page, or Session Settings for a filter shared across pages in that session. Fluxguard also documents account-level filters.
- Go to Inclusion Filters and select the region to keep. Use Visual Selector to click the region in the rendered view, or enter a CSS selector. If you need the selector from the live page, right-click the region, choose Inspect, locate the corresponding element, and use Copy Selector in Chrome DevTools.
- Save the settings and run another crawl. Inspect the result: the selected region should remain and unrelated areas should be removed.
Fluxguard’s Visual Selector works from the initial crawl’s HTML and may not render every site perfectly. If it does not reliably identify the target, inspect the live page and use a CSS selector instead. Fluxguard filtering guidance

A selector copied in full from DevTools can include many levels of nesting and class details. Those details may change when the site’s structure changes. Reduce it to the shortest selector that still uniquely identifies the intended region, then confirm that it matches in the browser’s Elements panel.

- Prefer a simple, stable selector over a long chain of nested elements.
- Use as few filters as possible, avoid overlapping filters, and crawl after each change so you can see its effect.
- Fluxguard’s guidance says to consider a smaller set of Inclusion Filters if you have more than five Exclusion Filters.
- Start without filters and add them when false positives justify the added maintenance.
Fluxguard puts the maintenance trade-off plainly: “Use as few filters as possible. Adding more filters can create brittleness.” Fluxguard documentation
Troubleshoot an incorrect or blank result
The filtered page is blank
An Inclusion Filter that matches no element can produce a blank page alert. Check that the selector still matches the current page, verify it in the Elements panel, and make sure you chose the intended target. Then save and crawl again.

The wrong region remains or the target is missing
Check the selector against the page’s current markup. A selector based on unstable classes or deep nesting may no longer identify the same element. Try a simpler selector or use Visual Selector against the initial crawl if it identifies the region correctly.

The page looks different after filtering
Inclusion and Exclusion Filters remove content from the DOM before capture; removing a header, wrapper, or other structural element can affect layout. If the content should remain visible in the capture and only needs to be ignored by HTML comparison, use Selector Ignore instead, provided the HTML change detection strategy is enabled.

Noise persists despite filtering
Consider whether a filter is the right remedy. Fluxguard also identifies change-detection strategy, Network Blocks, and Transforms as alternatives for reducing false positives. Add one change at a time and crawl to evaluate its effect.
