On a computer, open Earn > Memberships, edit Step 1: Add levels and perks, create your tiers, then publish them for YouTube’s review. You can configure up to six levels, with one to five perks per level; higher-priced levels inherit the perks from lower-priced ones. Memberships are separate from keeping a channel live around the clock.
Before you create membership levels
Check the channel’s membership eligibility, creator-location availability, and applicable policies. YouTube’s official channel memberships getting-started guidance covers eligibility and fan-funding requirements. Availability can depend on the channel and the creator’s location, so confirm the requirements shown in YouTube Studio rather than assuming the feature is available to every channel.
Also decide what the channel can deliver consistently. YouTube says creators are responsible for their membership perks and advises them to consider whether they can deliver them to members’ satisfaction. A perk that depends on frequent personal attention can become difficult to sustain on a channel built around continuous programming.
Create and publish the levels in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio for the channel.
- Choose Earn from the left menu, then open Memberships.
- Under Step 1: Add levels and perks, select Edit.
- Create the levels, set their prices, and assign one to five perks to each. YouTube supports up to six levels.
- Review the full perk ladder, especially what a member receives at each price. Higher-priced levels automatically include the perks from every lower-priced level.
- Publish when the prices, benefits, and delivery plan are ready. YouTube reviews levels and perks against its policies before they go live; its help page estimates that review takes about a day.
Do not treat the review estimate as a guaranteed publication time. Check Memberships in Studio for the status of your submission.

Design tiers that work for an always-on channel
YouTube’s membership pricing tips say many creators begin with one to three price levels. That is guidance, not a required number. Start with benefits you can keep providing, then add a meaningful, manageable difference at higher levels.

YouTube’s examples of possible perks include badges, posts, custom emoji, members-first videos, live chat, members-only livestreams, milestone chats, a member recognition shelf, Shorts, and videos. Use only perks that suit the channel and that you can deliver; the examples are not a guarantee that every proposed perk will be approved.

Keep the video public while limiting chat to members
If your goal is a public 24/7 feed with member-only participation in chat, use members-only chat—not a members-only livestream. With members-only chat, everyone can still watch the public stream, but only members can send messages. A members-only livestream is a separate perk and restricts the stream itself to eligible members.
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the stream you want to use.
- Open the stream’s settings and find Live chat.
- Choose Enable members-only chat, then save.
For members-only posts, YouTube lets creators choose whether a post is available to all members or only to particular levels. Check the audience selection when creating the post so its access matches the benefit promised for each tier.

Change prices or remove a level carefully
You can edit perks. YouTube’s pricing guidance says a creator may adjust prices for new members once every 12 months after the previous price update; existing members remain at their original price. Review the current Studio options and YouTube’s guidance before making a price change.
Deleting a level has a more serious effect than editing its benefits: members at that level are deleted, lose perk access immediately, and receive a refund of their last month’s payment. Before removing a level, consider the effect on existing members and whether another change can address the problem without deleting it.
