For a 24/7 stereo YouTube music stream, set the encoder’s audio to AAC at 128 Kbps: that is YouTube’s recommended stereo audio bitrate. At that setting, audio payload alone is about 1.38 GB per day or 41.47 GB over 30 days, before protocol overhead, reconnections, and other household use. If that estimate will not fit your broadband allowance, audition a lower setting such as 64 Kbps and verify both sound quality and stream stability before relying on it; YouTube does not officially recommend 64 Kbps.
Choose the audio bitrate and codec
YouTube’s live encoder guidance specifies 128 Kbps for stereo audio and lists AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs. For a stereo music stream, configure AAC at 128 Kbps as the official baseline. The setting is for live encoding, not a recommendation for uploading a finished video.

A 64 Kbps setting can be tested as a lower-data option, but it is not YouTube’s stated recommendation. Whether it sounds acceptable depends on the material, encoder, and listening conditions. Compare representative parts of your music on the devices your audience is likely to use before choosing it for continuous streaming.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYouTube’s live encoder settings also recommend Ethernet for live streaming from a computer. A wired connection can help with reliability, but it does not lower the encoded bitrate or data consumed.

Estimate how much data the stream will use
Continuous audio payload can be estimated as bitrate in kilobits per second × seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000, giving decimal gigabytes. These are calculations from bitrate and runtime, not usage figures published by YouTube.
| Audio bitrate | Payload per 24 hours | Payload per 30 days | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 128 Kbps | About 1.3824 GB | About 41.472 GB | YouTube’s recommended stereo setting |
| 64 Kbps | About 0.6912 GB | About 20.736 GB | Lower-data setting to test; not YouTube’s official recommendation |
Actual metered usage can be higher because these estimates exclude protocol overhead, reconnect traffic, and other devices using the connection. Use them as a payload baseline, not a promise about your ISP bill or data meter.

Check the allowance on your own broadband plan
- Find the monthly data allowance and any fair-use policy (FUP) terms for your exact ISP plan, including how over-limit use is treated.
- Estimate other household use for the billing period and leave room for overhead and reconnects.
- Compare the remaining allowance with the stream’s estimated monthly payload at your chosen bitrate.
- If it does not fit, test lower-bitrate audio for acceptable sound before adopting it, or consider a connection or plan with an allowance that can support the stream.
There is no single Indian broadband cap or FUP that applies to every provider and plan. Confirm metering and limits with your ISP.

Set up and test the stream
- In your live encoder, choose a stereo audio configuration and AAC or MP3. Set the audio bitrate to 128 Kbps for YouTube’s recommended stereo baseline.
- Check your outbound upload performance, not just the advertised download speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate; the connection must also remain stable in realistic conditions. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Run a test stream before committing to a continuous schedule. Listen for quality at the selected bitrate and monitor stream health; YouTube advises testing setup and monitoring the stream.
- If streaming from a computer, use Ethernet where practical. It is a reliability choice, not a way to reduce data use.
- Check the stream after reconnects or interruptions and review your ISP usage meter during an initial trial period, where available.
Troubleshoot data and stream problems
- The monthly allowance is being used faster than expected: the calculations cover audio payload only. Account for protocol overhead, reconnects, other household traffic, and the exact ISP metering period.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: verify outbound upload capacity and the recommended headroom, test under normal household network load, and use a wired connection from the streaming computer if possible.
- 64 Kbps sounds poor: return to 128 Kbps or test an intermediate setting in your encoder if supported; assess the actual music before choosing a compromise. Do not treat 64 Kbps as YouTube’s recommended stereo setting.
- Your provider’s data meter does not match the estimate: confirm the billing window, FUP rules, and what traffic the ISP counts. Payload arithmetic is not a bill guarantee.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a 24/7 YouTube stream made from uploaded recordings or a playlist, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and uploaded quality is sent as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot.
