To set a thumbnail for a YouTube podcast livestream, open the scheduled broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and use its edit controls to find the thumbnail field. YouTube’s general custom-thumbnail workflow is Content → select the video → Thumbnail → Upload file → Save. The exact controls can vary with a stream’s state, so check the scheduled stream’s edit panel rather than assuming every already-live or continuously restarted broadcast exposes the same option.
Before you start: check account eligibility
- Custom thumbnails: YouTube requires a verified account to upload one. See YouTube’s custom thumbnail help.
- Live streaming: YouTube separately requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions within the prior 90 days. These are live-stream eligibility rules, distinct from the custom-thumbnail requirement. See YouTube’s live-streaming help.
Set the thumbnail on a scheduled livestream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Go Live. Choose Manage to see scheduled broadcasts.
- Schedule a stream or select the existing scheduled event. YouTube says scheduling can make a stream appear as upcoming, let you share its URL, and allow viewers to set a reminder. Its help page describes the benefit this way: “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.” See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Open the stream’s edit controls. Look for the thumbnail field in the stream metadata or presentation settings. YouTube’s live-stream guidance documents editing stream metadata when creating or scheduling a stream, while its general thumbnail instructions give the steps Content → select the video → Thumbnail → Upload file → Save. The help pages do not specify one universal click path that joins these flows for every live-stream state. See YouTube’s live-stream settings help and custom thumbnail instructions.
- Upload the image and save. Reopen the event’s details afterward to confirm the selected image is displayed. YouTube cautions that a thumbnail change can take time to appear.
Choose the right image for the placement
A livestream’s thumbnail and a podcast playlist’s cover art are separate assets. Use the aspect ratio and file limit for the placement you are changing:
| Placement | Recommended shape | Documented upload details |
|---|---|---|
| Live video thumbnail | 16:9 | JPG and PNG are supported examples. Desktop uploads can be up to 50 MB; the mobile video-thumbnail limit is 2 MB. |
| Podcast playlist cover | 1:1 | The mobile podcast-thumbnail limit is 10 MB. |
These requirements are from YouTube’s thumbnail help and YouTube’s podcast playlist guidance. If you are updating a live video, use the 16:9 thumbnail workflow; changing the podcast playlist cover does not substitute for setting the video thumbnail.
If the stream is already live or runs continuously
Open the current stream in YouTube Studio and inspect its available edit controls. The official guidance explains scheduled-stream metadata editing and general video-thumbnail uploads, but does not establish that every already-live stream or every continuously restarted broadcast has the same thumbnail control. If the field is unavailable, do not assume the playlist cover will change the live video image; check the stream’s Studio details and the applicable YouTube help pages.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Also plan the continuous broadcast independently from its thumbnail. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not establish that one broadcast can run indefinitely or explain how a restarted stream inherits thumbnail settings. See YouTube’s encoder guide.
