To choose the image shown when someone shares a Blogger link, add suitable Open Graph metadata to your theme’s HTML and verify the published page. Blogger’s documented settings do not include a dedicated social-preview-image control. A homepage and an individual post may need different images, and community-suggested workarounds are not guaranteed to work with every theme or platform.
First decide which link needs an image
A shared link can point to your blog’s homepage or to an individual post. Decide which one you want to affect before editing the theme:

- Homepage: set a consistent image for the blog’s main URL.
- Individual post: use an image suited to that post, if your theme emits suitable page-specific metadata.
A theme-wide rule may be convenient for a consistent homepage preview, but it may not provide unique images for posts. Post-specific behavior requires checking each published page’s actual metadata. Add or adjust Open Graph image metadata
Open Graph metadata can influence the image a social platform displays, but Blogger does not specify a universal snippet that works across all themes and services. Community guidance recommends adding Open Graph tags in the theme head; treat it as implementation advice rather than an official Blogger guarantee. Blogger community discussion of Open Graph tags
- In the theme editor, find the document’s
<head>section. - Inspect the existing markup for
og:imageand related Open Graph tags before adding anything. Themes may already emit metadata; adding a competing tag blindly can produce an unexpected result. - If you add an image value, use the direct, publicly fetchable URL of the image intended for that page. This is implementation guidance, not a Blogger setting.
- Save the theme, then inspect a published page to confirm what metadata it actually emits.
For a homepage-level rule, a Blogger community example uses a conditional for a multiple-items view. That example may help you identify the kind of theme logic involved, but it is not a supported guarantee and may need adaptation. Blogger community homepage-image example

Check the post-specific image case
A Blogger community answer says Blogger may use the first image in a post as its content image reference and suggests putting a preferred image first inside a noscript block. This is a workaround to test, not an official or universal fix. The official image guide explains adding and managing images, but does not document this social-preview behavior. If you try the workaround, validate the specific post and theme. Use only images you have permission to publish: Blogger’s image guidance prohibits unauthorized copyrighted material and hosting elsewhere without permission.
Verify what the published page and platform show
- Open the published homepage or post, not just the theme editor.
- Inspect the page’s HTML source and check that the intended
og:imageappears and points to the expected image URL. - Use the destination social platform’s current preview or debugging tool, if available, or test by sharing the link.
- If the platform still shows an old image, its preview may be cached. A community thread mentions waiting for cache updates, but establishes no universal refresh period. Recheck later rather than assuming a fixed delay. Community discussion of preview caching
What Blogger sharing does—and does not—control
Blogger’s built-in share buttons are not a setting for choosing preview metadata. Blogger says the blog must be public to use those buttons; its sharing guidance does not claim they select the image shown by social platforms. Blogger sharing guidance
The available official instructions describe general Blogger workflows and do not identify an India-specific preview-image option. The same theme-editing approach applies to Blogger blogs generally; no India-only setting is established. Troubleshooting
- The preview still shows a post picture instead of the blog icon: the social platform may be using page metadata or a post image rather than the icon. Check the published page’s emitted Open Graph tags and test the homepage separately from a post URL.
- The image does not change after editing: verify the saved page source first. If it contains the right metadata, the platform may be showing a cached preview; there is no universal refresh time established here.
- Different images appear for different posts: inspect each post’s source. A theme-wide homepage rule and post-level image behavior are distinct, and a community workaround may not control every page.
- The new metadata seems ignored or another image wins: inspect for duplicate or conflicting
og:imagetags. Remove or adjust competing theme output only after confirming what the rendered page contains. - The image URL does not load for the platform: make sure it is a direct image URL that can be fetched publicly, then test again on the published page.

To capture a page for inspection or documentation, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF with one GET request. This does not set Blogger’s social-preview metadata; it is an alternative way to capture the page while you verify it. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
