Go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings and enable Manage notification categories for each app if it appears. Then open the app’s notification categories, choose a category, and select its sound.
Set a notification sound for an app
- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications > Advanced settings.
- Turn on Manage notification categories for each app, if the option is shown.
- Return to Settings and tap Apps.
- Select the app, then tap Notifications > Notification categories.
- Tap the category name whose alert you want to change. Tap the row itself, not just its on/off switch.
- Tap Sound and choose a tone.
Repeat for other categories in the same app, or for another app. Samsung confirms that app-specific notification sounds can be customized through the app settings menu in its Galaxy sounds and notifications support guide. Why the sound setting may be missing
Notification categories are not listed
Check Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings for Manage notification categories for each app and enable it if available. Samsung Community guidance notes that the category controls may not appear until this setting is on. This is a useful first check, not a guaranteed fix for every app or Galaxy software version. Open a category by tapping its name or row. The category’s on/off switch controls whether that type of notification is allowed; it does not open the category’s detailed options. Samsung Members guidance describes opening the category first, then choosing Sound. Samsung Members solution

The app does not offer the category or tone you want
Notification categories are provided by the app, so their names, number, and available settings differ. Some apps expose several types of alerts; others may offer fewer choices. The available guidance does not establish a universal way to add categories or sound controls to an app that does not provide them.
Notification sound is not Separate app sound
A notification sound is the tone played for an alert. Separate app sound is an audio-routing setting that sends an app’s media audio to a selected audio device; it does not assign an alert tone. Samsung documents these as distinct controls in its Galaxy sounds and notifications support guide.
