TikTok does not list a separate “Creator Account” type on its account-types page: creators can use a Personal Account. To change account type, open Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Account and follow the switching prompts. If you mean keeping business promotion separate from personal creator posts, TikTok recommends maintaining two accounts rather than repeatedly switching between Personal and Business.
What “creator account” means on TikTok
TikTok’s account-types guidance calls the creator-suitable option a Personal Account, not a “Creator Account.” Personal Accounts are described as suitable for general users, content creators, and most public figures. A Business Account is intended for a brand or business whose primary goal is promoting a product or service. TikTok’s account-types guide also describes Organization Accounts as a separate option for some brands and organizations.

Choose the account setup that matches your goal
| Account type | Best fit | Music access | Privacy and links | Tools and qualifications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | General use, content creation, and most public figures | General music library and Commercial Music Library | Can be private. A profile website link is available once the account has at least 1,000 followers. | May include creator tools, monetization features subject to eligibility and location, analytics after at least one public post, and Promote. Feature availability and requirements vary. |
| Business | Brands or businesses primarily promoting a product or service | Commercial Music Library; not the general music library, whose songs TikTok says are restricted to personal entertainment use | Described as a public profile. Can post a website link. | Includes business-oriented marketing tools. Features may vary by account and location. |
| Organization | Brands and organizations that need multiple team members to access an account, or account access not tied to an individual’s personal login or contact details | Not stated in TikTok’s account-types guidance | Not stated in TikTok’s account-types guidance | Not available everywhere; created through certain business platforms, such as TikTok Shop Seller Center, and may not include every feature. |
These are broad distinctions, not a guarantee that every feature is available to every account. TikTok qualifies some features by region, eligibility, age, or follower count. For a creator choosing between Personal and Business, the key question is whether the account primarily represents the creator’s content or promotes a business.

How to switch TikTok account type
- Open TikTok and tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap Menu ☰ at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy, then Account.
- Choose the account-type switching option and follow the prompts. TikTok’s guide explicitly names Switch to Business Account; it does not specify the exact current button label for switching back to Personal.
Labels can vary by app version. If the option is not where expected, check that TikTok is up to date and look in the Account section of Settings and privacy.

When to keep two accounts instead of switching
TikTok advises against repeatedly switching between Business and Personal Accounts. Its guidance recommends separate accounts if you want to promote a business while also posting organic personal content. For example, a creator can use a Personal Account for creator-focused posts and a separate Business Account for a shop or service’s promotional presence.
TikTok’s account-types page does not explain whether switching changes existing posts, drafts, analytics, or monetization eligibility. Do not assume those items will be preserved or removed based on the account-type label alone; review TikTok’s current prompts before confirming a change.
