The safest way to send fan mail to a video game studio is to use a contact route the studio currently publishes for community correspondence. Start on the studio’s official website, distinguish a community channel from player support or business contacts, and send a short, personal message about a specific game. Do not mail unsolicited game ideas, scripts, concept art, or other creative assets unless the studio explicitly invited them.
Find the right contact route first
Studios rarely treat every message as the same kind of correspondence. A thank-you note belongs with a community, fan-mail, or general correspondence channel when one exists. A crashed game, account problem, refund question, or lost purchase belongs with player support. A licensing proposal, press request, job inquiry, or partnership proposal may have its own department.

Using the wrong route can delay your message or send it into a queue that is not monitored for fan correspondence. A support form may require order numbers and troubleshooting details, while a business address may not be intended for personal letters at all.

Use the studio’s own website
Search the official site for labels such as Contact, Community, Fan mail, Player support, or Community guidelines. Read the full page rather than choosing the first email address you see. A corporate postal address may be present for legal or administrative purposes without being a destination for fan letters.

Only use a channel whose purpose is stated by the studio. If the site offers a form with a category selector, choose the category that most closely matches appreciation or community correspondence. If it gives an email address, copy it exactly and use a clear subject such as “Thank you for [game title].”
Check that the instructions are current
Contact pages and policies can change after a studio moves offices, reorganizes support, or retires a game. Look for a publication or update date, but do not assume an old page is still active. A social-media post or forum comment can point you toward a department, but the studio’s current website should be the final authority.
Electronic fan mail: the simplest option
If a studio publishes a community email or web form, electronic correspondence is usually easier to verify and less likely to be misdirected than physical mail. It also lets the studio reply without asking you to decode handwriting or forward a letter between offices.
What to include in an email
- A subject that identifies the purpose, such as “A note of thanks for [game title].”
- Your greeting to the studio, community team, or named department.
- The game you played and the platform or edition only if that detail adds useful context.
- One or two specific details about what resonated with you: a character, level, musical moment, accessibility feature, story choice, or experience shared with other players.
- A short closing and your name or a screen name.
Keep the message focused. A community team may receive many notes, so a clear paragraph is more useful than a long account of every session you have played.
Example of a concise message
Hello [studio or community team],
I wanted to thank you for [game]. The way [specific feature, character, or moment] made me feel [brief personal reaction] stayed with me after I finished playing. I also appreciated [second specific detail].
Best,
[Name]Use the studio’s own form or email when available. Add contact details only when the channel requests them or when you genuinely want a reply. Never include an account password, payment-card number, recovery code, or unrelated private information.
Physical letters: confirm the destination before mailing
Some companies occasionally invite physical letters, but you should not infer that an address printed on a corporate page is a fan-mail address. Confirm that the studio explicitly accepts letters at that destination and follow any format, labeling, or return instructions.

A historical PlayStation invitation
On May 7, 2014, Sid Shuman, identified in the post as Senior Director of Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications, published a PlayStation Blog invitation titled “Send PlayStation a Letter.” It listed “Greatness Awaits, PlayStation HQ, 2207 Bridgepointe Parkway, San Mateo, CA 94404” and suggested notebook paper, drawings, and collages as possible formats.

That post is a historical example, not confirmation of a current fan-mail program or current address. It also said: “Be sure to include your contact info (email, phone number) and PSN ID, too, so we know how to reach you, and note that anything you mail to us won’t be returned.” Do not use the address or assume those requirements still apply without checking the recipient’s current instructions.
Before you put a letter in the mail
- Open the studio’s current official contact or community page.
- Confirm that physical fan mail is expressly invited, rather than merely finding a headquarters address.
- Check the destination, country, postal code, language, and any department name exactly as published.
- Read the policy on enclosed items, personal information, and returns.
- Use ordinary paper or modest letter-writing stationery. No special product is required.
- Keep a copy or photograph of the letter for your records, but do not mail irreplaceable originals.
- Use postage and packaging appropriate for the destination, and do not send cash, identification documents, or valuable collectibles.
Never assume a studio will acknowledge receipt, answer, or return an item. The PlayStation invitation specifically warned that mailed items would not be returned; that statement should not be generalized to other studios.
What makes a good fan letter
A useful fan letter explains the effect of the work without demanding a particular response. Mention the title, describe a concrete experience, and say why it mattered to you. Specificity helps the people who made the game understand what reached players.
Strong subjects to mention
- A scene, mechanic, quest, soundtrack cue, or visual detail that stayed with you.
- How the game became part of a shared experience with friends or family.
- How an accessibility option, control setting, localization choice, or thoughtful interface helped you play.
- What you learned, felt, or noticed about yourself while playing.
- A respectful thank-you to a team or department when the public credits identify one.
Keep criticism separate from appreciation
You can mention a constructive observation, but a letter whose main purpose is a bug report, refund demand, or feature request should go through support or the studio’s feedback system. Combining a personal thank-you with urgent account details makes it harder for the recipient to route either issue correctly.
Do not attach unsolicited creative work
Fan appreciation and creative submissions are different categories. A studio may welcome fan art or cosplay under published fan-content rules while refusing to accept ideas, scripts, concept art, drawings, manuscripts, or other material for possible use in a game.

CD PROJEKT RED’s published position
CD PROJEKT RED’s contact information separates player support from community-related correspondence and lists [email protected] for community matters. Its unsolicited-submissions policy says it cannot accept materials it did not specifically request, that such materials may not be reviewed and could be deleted, and that sending them anyway may grant the company a broad license to use them. A community email address is therefore not an invitation to pitch a game or send assets for possible adoption.
The company also publishes fan-content guidelines describing permissible works such as fan art and cosplay. Those guidelines do not, by themselves, invite people to mail those works to the studio or authorize the submission of game ideas.
Ubisoft’s warning about pitches
Ubisoft’s contact information directs users toward support channels and states that its policy does not allow the company or its employees to accept or consider unsolicited ideas and materials. That warning concerns pitches and creative materials; it is not evidence that the company rejects every message of appreciation. The practical rule is to send a personal note only through a channel intended for correspondence and never attach an unsolicited concept or script.

- Story treatments, scripts, dialogue, or character concepts.
- Game mechanics, level designs, design documents, or business plans.
- Concept art, drawings, music, models, prototypes, or code offered for possible use.
- A fan-fiction manuscript or other lengthy work sent with a request that the studio publish or develop it.
If you want to share fan work publicly, follow the studio’s current fan-content rules and their platform-specific terms. Do not assume that permission to post a fan work means permission to send it as a confidential or commercial submission.
Protect your privacy and your account
Fan mail should contain only information needed for the stated purpose. A studio may ask for an email address, phone number, player ID, or postal return address when it has a process for replying, but those requests are channel-specific.
- Never send passwords, two-factor authentication codes, payment information, government identification, or account-recovery answers.
- Do not publish your home address in a public comment when a private form is available.
- Use a separate email address if you want to receive a reply without exposing your primary inbox.
- Check the domain carefully before sending personal information; impersonation accounts and fake support pages exist.
- Remove metadata or personal details from attachments unless the studio’s instructions require them.
If you are a minor, ask a parent or guardian before sharing a postal address, phone number, or other identifying information. A studio’s request for contact information in one campaign does not create a universal requirement for every letter.

How to choose between email and postal mail

Using a headquarters address without permission
Problem: You find a corporate address and assume it accepts fan mail.
Fix: Look for a current community or fan-mail instruction. If none exists, use the published electronic channel or do not send physical mail.
Opening a support ticket for praise
Problem: Your message enters a queue designed for account and technical problems.
Fix: Use community correspondence. If no such route is published, a brief general contact message is more appropriate than inventing a support issue.

Fix: Send only your personal reaction unless the studio has expressly opened a submission program with terms you understand.
Expecting a reply
Problem: You treat a thank-you note as a request for customer service or a personal response.
Fix: Write as appreciation, not an obligation. Include contact details only when the channel requests them or when you genuinely want to be reachable.
Sending something valuable
Problem: The studio may not return mailed items, and its staff may not be able to store them.
Fix: Use a scan, photocopy, or ordinary letter instead of an irreplaceable collectible or original artwork.
A final pre-send checklist
- Did you start from the studio’s official website?
- Does the selected channel explicitly fit community correspondence or fan mail?
- Did you identify the game and include a specific, personal reason for writing?
- Did you keep technical, account, business, and press matters in their own channels?
- Did you remove passwords, payment details, and unnecessary personal information?
- Did you avoid unsolicited ideas, scripts, concept art, code, and other creative submissions?
- If mailing a physical letter, did you verify that the destination and policy are current?
- Are you prepared for no reply and, for physical mail, no return of enclosed items?
What to expect after sending
There is no universal response time, response rate, gift policy, or promise that a studio will reply. Community teams may acknowledge a message, forward it internally, or provide no individual response. Support departments may answer only issues submitted through their required forms.
If you do not hear back, do not repeatedly resend the same note across departments or public channels. One well-directed message is more respectful and more likely to reach the right people than a stream of duplicate submissions. If your original purpose was a technical problem, open a separate support request using the studio’s required information rather than adding it to the fan letter.
