To send a Kannada radio station’s online audio to YouTube Live, use OBS or another encoder to bring in the station feed, pair it with a still image or other authorized visual, and send the resulting video to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Test the exact station URL before scheduling: OBS support depends on the feed’s format and endpoint, and public access to a radio stream does not grant permission to rebroadcast it.
Before you set up the stream
- Get the exact feed URL. Ask the station for its online stream URL and, if needed, the correct format or player instructions. A station’s website page URL may not be the audio endpoint.
- Confirm rebroadcast rights. Get permission for YouTube and the territory where you intend to broadcast. A station’s existing web or radio license may not cover YouTube. Ask whether the owner must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- Prepare a visual. YouTube Live requires a video stream, so prepare a still image, station logo, or other visual you are authorized to use.
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Start the setup before the planned broadcast time. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the workflow.
How to add a radio stream to OBS
OBS can handle media through its Media Source and VLC Video source, but that does not guarantee that every live station URL will decode. OBS documents MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV for Media Source; its VLC-based source uses VLC libraries for broader media support and offers network caching. Test your station’s actual endpoint with the source type and configuration you plan to use. OBS’s media-source documentation describes those options.

- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the broadcast and add an authorized still image or logo as an Image source. Set its size and position so it fills the video canvas.
- Add the audio feed. Add a Media Source if the station provides a compatible feed, or try the VLC Video source for an endpoint that needs VLC’s extended media handling. Enter the exact network URL as the source. If OBS cannot decode it, check that the URL is the direct stream endpoint and try the VLC source; a website player link may not work as an audio source.
- Check audio activity. Play the source and watch the OBS Audio Mixer. Confirm the meter moves and that the correct station feed is audible. Adjust the source level to avoid clipping while keeping the audio clear.
- Set up YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live. In Live Control Room, create a stream or select one you have already created. Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS under Settings → Stream, choosing YouTube as the service where available or entering the server URL and key manually.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not include it in a screenshot, public post, or shared scene configuration. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Configure the encoder. Use YouTube’s RTMPS ingest recommendation when your encoder supports it. YouTube lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its stereo-audio recommendations are AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, and 128 kbps. Choose a video resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain; YouTube’s recommended video bitrate varies with codec, resolution, and frame rate. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Start OBS and check the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then wait for the YouTube Live Control Room preview. Verify the image, the correct station audio, and stream health before selecting Go live. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast and monitoring stream health during the event.
- End the broadcast cleanly. Select End Stream in Live Control Room, then stop sending content from OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Copyright and YouTube interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects such content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license alone does not prevent that interruption: YouTube says licensed content may need the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm both permission and any allowlisting requirement before going live. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance describes its enforcement process.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThis applies especially to a radio feed that may include music, announcements, or other material controlled by third parties. The rights situation depends on the station, territory, and licenses involved; no general rule establishes that an online Kannada radio feed can be rebroadcast on YouTube.

Why OBS may not play the radio stream URL
- The URL points to a web page, not the audio stream. Request the direct feed URL from the station or inspect its official player instructions.
- The endpoint or format is unsupported by the selected source. Try OBS’s VLC Video source, confirm VLC is available to OBS, and test the exact URL. OBS’s documented formats do not guarantee compatibility with every station endpoint.
- The source plays but no sound reaches the stream. Check that the source is active, the correct meter moves in the Audio Mixer, and the source is not muted. Listen to the YouTube preview before going live.
- The stream appears in OBS but not in YouTube. Recheck the YouTube service, server URL, and stream key in Settings → Stream. Confirm live streaming has been enabled and that YouTube has received the encoder signal.
- YouTube warns about the content or replaces the picture. Stop and resolve the rights issue with the station or rights holders. If you have a license, ask whether your channel must be allowlisted through Content ID.
