You can send a prerecorded clip from an Android phone to YouTube Live using Larix as a screen-capture stream, but the clip is not documented as a direct file input for Larix Broadcaster. Play it on the phone and capture the screen with Larix Screencaster, then test whether your Android version and playback app also allow the clip’s audio to be captured. For 720p H.264, YouTube’s current guidance is 3–8 Mbps; Larix’s FAQ gives 2,000 kbps as a resolution-matched setting, which is below YouTube’s range. A low-end phone is not guaranteed to hold 720p reliably, so test your specific handset before going live.
Can Larix Broadcaster stream a video already saved on your phone?
Softvelum documents Larix Broadcaster for live capture and streaming, including camera capture, audio modes, RTMP output, and recording the resulting stream. It does not document selecting a local video file as Broadcaster’s direct input. Softvelum describes Larix Screencaster separately as an Android screen-capture tool. For a clip already on your phone, the documented phone-side approach is therefore to play the video and stream the screen with Screencaster; this is not a guarantee that the playback audio will be included.

Android version and playback-app support matter. Softvelum says Android 10 can capture audio from apps that support external recording, but that does not mean every video player or phone exposes its audio. Verify both picture and sound in YouTube’s preview before relying on the setup.
Set up the YouTube stream and Larix connection
- Create the stream in YouTube Studio. Create or schedule an encoder-based live stream and open Live Control Room. Copy the server URL and stream key shown there. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Add the connection in Larix. In the relevant Larix app, create an RTMP or RTMPS connection and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the corresponding fields. Softvelum describes the conventional RTMP structure as the server or application URL followed by the stream name/key. Use the RTMPS URL from YouTube if the selected Larix app supports it. YouTube says, “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol” (YouTube encoder settings guidance).
- Play and capture the clip. Open Larix Screencaster’s screen-capture mode, start the prerecorded video in your playback app, and start streaming. Keep the clip visible and prevent notifications or app switching from interrupting playback.
- Check YouTube’s preview and go live. Confirm that the preview shows moving picture and that its audio is audible. Complete any manual go-live step presented in Live Control Room.
Softvelum’s Larix documentation says, “YouTube recommends Larix among very few mobile encoders.” That is Softvelum’s characterization of its documentation, not an independently verified endorsement (Larix documentation).

Choose 720p settings that the phone and connection can sustain
Resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance lists 3–8 Mbps for 720p at both 30 fps and 60 fps. Larix’s FAQ gives 2,000 kbps as a resolution-matched 720p setting. These values are not equivalent recommendations: 2,000 kbps is below YouTube’s current H.264 range. A weak phone or limited uplink may not sustain YouTube’s target reliably. Test first; if the stream stutters or loses health, reduce resolution or frame rate rather than assuming the device can maintain 720p.
| Choice | What the guidance says | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps, H.264 | YouTube recommends 3–8 Mbps, current guidance accessed 2026-10-03 | A reasonable first test for a weak phone; actual stability depends on its encoder and connection. |
| 720p at 60 fps, H.264 | YouTube recommends 3–8 Mbps, current guidance accessed 2026-10-03 | Use only if the handset and upload connection sustain it in a test. |
| Larix 720p matched setting | 2,000 kbps, Softvelum FAQ accessed 2026-10-03 | This is below YouTube’s current 3–8 Mbps H.264 recommendation; do not describe it as YouTube’s recommended rate. |
Keyframes, codec, and bitrate mode
YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum of four seconds. H.264/AVC is the straightforward baseline in Larix: Softvelum says its Android app uses H.264 throughout, while HEVC is a premium feature on supported devices. YouTube also supports HEVC and AV1 ingest, but those options do not remove the need to confirm what the selected app and handset can actually encode.
Softvelum notes that Android devices commonly use variable bitrate (VBR), which can rise above the configured value to preserve quality, particularly during motion. A configured bitrate may therefore not be a strict ceiling. Softvelum says a device with constant bitrate (CBR) support is needed when a strict low bitrate is required. YouTube’s guidance recommends CBR; use it if the device and app expose a supported CBR option, and check stream health during a test.

- Android compatibility: Softvelum lists Android 7.0 or later as the minimum for Larix Broadcaster. That minimum does not establish that a particular phone’s CPU, memory, hardware encoder, or thermal behavior can sustain 720p screen capture.
- Internal audio: Android 10 may capture audio from apps that support external recording, according to Softvelum. Test the actual player and phone; do not assume the clip’s sound will be transmitted.
- Upload capacity: YouTube says available upload bandwidth must accommodate the stream bitrate and recommends testing upload speed. Use reliable Wi-Fi or cellular coverage, and watch stream health.
- Heat and power: A long screen-capture session keeps the phone working. Check for heat, battery drain, playback pauses, and interruptions during a representative test; there is no universal accessory or hardware threshold established for this setup.
- Notifications and sleep: Silence interruptions and keep the screen-capture and playback workflow active. Confirm the phone does not lock, pause playback, or switch apps during the test.
Run a short test and troubleshoot failures
Before a public or long stream, make a short private or unlisted test with movement and audio similar to the intended clip. YouTube recommends testing before an event and monitoring stream health while streaming. Check the Live Control Room preview, sound, and health indicators rather than relying only on what Larix reports.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Larix cannot select the saved clip | Broadcaster is documented for live capture, not as a direct local-file playout input. | Use Larix Screencaster to capture playback on the phone, or choose a different file-playout encoder. |
| Video appears but clip audio is missing | The Android version or playback app may not permit internal audio capture. | Test the actual combination and inspect YouTube’s preview. Do not assume screen capture includes sound. |
| Stream drops frames or health degrades | The phone encoder or upload connection may not sustain the selected settings; VBR may exceed the configured bitrate. | Check upload capacity, lower resolution or frame rate, and repeat the test. Use a supported CBR mode if a strict bitrate is necessary. |
| Playback stops or the stream is interrupted | Sleep, notifications, app switching, battery drain, or heat may disrupt the phone workflow. | Keep playback active, prevent avoidable interruptions, and test the full expected duration before relying on the phone. |
| YouTube does not show the expected stream | The server URL or stream key may be wrong, or the encoder may not be connected to the intended event. | Recheck the URL and key in Larix against Live Control Room, and confirm the correct stream is selected. If a key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio. |
