These steps follow Wowza’s Streaming Engine guide, updated August 7, 2026. They configure a destination for a source that is already live; they do not make a prerecorded file loop.

- Create the YouTube destination: In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and copy its Stream URL and stream name/key. Keep the key private.
- Open the Wowza application: In Wowza Streaming Engine Manager, select an existing Live application or create one if needed.
- Add a target: Open the application’s Stream Targets area, add a target, and choose YouTube Live.
- Enter the destination details: Set the source stream name, YouTube destination host, destination application, and YouTube stream key. The application is the part of the stream URL that follows the host. The guide gives RTMP port 1935 as the default and says the destination application instance can be left blank.
- Enable the target: Enable Stream Targets for the application and enable the individual YouTube target. Restart the application if prompted.
- Start and verify the source: Start the incoming stream. Check that Wowza reports the stream and target as active, then check YouTube Live Control Room for a preview. The stream must include audio.
Do not treat an active target as proof that a prerecorded file will repeat. The cited Streaming Engine workflow describes forwarding a live incoming source, not file scheduling or looping.
What Wowza Video documents for YouTube and 24×7 channels
Send a Wowza Video stream to YouTube
Wowza Video’s YouTube-specific guide, updated February 24, 2025, describes creating a YouTube live stream in YouTube Studio, selecting the highest available output rendition in Wowza Video, and adding an external service with provider RTMP. Enter YouTube’s primary Stream URL and stream key; an optional backup URL is available. The guide says YouTube performs transcoding on this route.
That guide lists a maximum output of 2160 (3840×2160) at 60 fps and an I-frame interval of at least every two seconds and no more than four seconds. These are requirements in the cited Wowza documentation, not a guarantee that YouTube’s requirements remain unchanged. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and confirm the settings supported by your Wowza plan before production.

File input and 24×7 mode in Wowza Video Legacy
Wowza Video Legacy’s Live Stream Setup reference, updated February 8, 2024, lists “Stream from File” inputs as publicly accessible MP3 or H.264-encoded MP4/FLV files reachable over HTTP, HTTPS, GS, or S3. The same reference describes 24×7 as an always-on billing mode and says a 24×7 channel runs until manually or schedule-stopped. It also lists these constraints: 24×7 streams cannot be recorded, do not support 4K, and cannot have their billing mode changed after stream creation.
Wowza describes the purpose of the channel as “A 24×7 channel is for always on, as opposed to a single live stream for a single event.” The reference documents file input and 24×7 mode separately; it does not say that the file restarts at its end or that playlists are supported. These are Legacy-specific details, not universal settings for every Wowza product or current plan.
Can Wowza loop a prerecorded video continuously?
The cited official documentation does not confirm that a Wowza Video file input loops or that it can be playlisted indefinitely in a 24×7 channel. Nor does the Streaming Engine YouTube-target guide describe file playout. An always-on channel mode is not, by itself, evidence that the source media will restart when it ends.

Before deploying, ask Wowza support or consult current documentation for the exact product and plan. Confirm whether it supports looping or playlists, how the source behaves at end-of-file, and how to keep the YouTube output connected through the transition. Test the complete workflow and observe it past the end of the file before depending on it.

Verify the stream before leaving it unattended
- Confirm the YouTube stream was created in YouTube Studio and that the URL and key belong to the intended live stream.
- Check the Wowza status or metrics for an active source and destination target.
- Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview, including picture and audio, before relying on the broadcast.
- Verify current YouTube encoder requirements and the Wowza product and plan limits for your setup.
- For prerecorded playout, test the specific repeat or playlist behavior end to end; the cited guides do not establish it.
- Review copyright permissions for every recording. A technically connected stream does not establish that you have the rights to broadcast its music, video, or other material.
