To see how many people watched a YouTube live stream, check Real-time analytics in Live Control Room while it is running, or open the ended stream’s Analytics → Engagement report in YouTube Studio afterward. Use the metric that matches your question: views count plays, while concurrent viewers show how many were watching at the same time.
See viewers while your YouTube stream is live
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open the stream dashboard in Live Control Room.
- Find Real-time analytics. Check Concurrent viewers for the number watching simultaneously and Views for the live view count.
The metrics displayed can vary depending on whether you are streaming from a phone or an encoder. YouTube defines peak concurrent viewers as the highest number of viewers watching at the same time during the stream.

Find the report after the stream ends
- In YouTube Studio, select Content from the left menu.
- Open the Live tab.
- Select the ended stream, then open Analytics.
- Select Engagement to find the concurrent-viewers report.
YouTube says video-level metrics are available within minutes after the stream ends. You can also view the stream’s post-stream snapshot in Studio. In YouTube Analytics, reports can be filtered by Live, On demand, or Live & on demand.

Choose the metric that answers your question
| Metric | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Views | How many times the stream was viewed while live, according to YouTube’s counting rules. This is not necessarily a count of unique people. |
| Concurrent viewers | How many viewers were watching at the same time. |
| Peak concurrent viewers | The largest simultaneous audience at any one point during the stream. |
| Average concurrent viewers | The average number watching simultaneously over the stream. |
| Total watch time | The combined time the event was played across views; it measures viewing time, not people. |
For a question like “What was my biggest live audience at one moment?”, use peak concurrent viewers. For the typical simultaneous audience, use average concurrent viewers. Don’t describe views, peak concurrent viewers, and unique people as interchangeable: YouTube’s guidance defines the first two kinds of measures but does not establish an exact unique-person count for a particular stream.

Understand why numbers may differ
Live Control Room and later YouTube Analytics figures may not match exactly. YouTube says Analytics data is based on video ID, processed and despammed, and measures different information from Live Control Room data. When sharing a number, name the report and metric it came from rather than treating the counters as identical.
YouTube’s current content-performance guidance says that beginning August 24, 2026, a view is counted when a video starts playing across formats, including live streams. YouTube also says this update does not affect YouTube Partner Program earnings or eligibility. Since counting rules can change, identify the metric label and report shown in Studio.

For streams with horizontal and vertical formats
Live Control Room combines metrics for both streams. For vertical-stream-only metrics, wait 24 hours after the broadcast ends, then follow this route:

- In Studio, select Content → Live and open the ended stream.
- Select Analytics → Advanced mode.
- Choose Playback location as the breakdown.
- Select a time period longer than the first 24 hours, then choose Vertical live feed.
State whether a figure is combined or vertical-only when you report it.
