To see or clear your iPhone’s Significant Locations, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services, then tap Significant Locations or Significant Locations & Routes—the label varies. Tap Clear History to delete this history; Apple says the change applies to devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
How to see Significant Locations on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
- Scroll down and tap System Services.
- Tap Significant Locations or Significant Locations & Routes, whichever appears on your iPhone.
Apple documents this setting in System Services, though its support materials use both labels and do not establish that every iOS version displays the same wording. See Apple’s location-history guide and Location Services settings guide.

How to clear Significant Locations
Open the Significant Locations screen using the steps above and tap Clear History. Apple says this removes Significant Locations from all devices signed in to the same Apple Account, not just the iPhone where you tapped the control. Apple’s guide to clearing location history describes the action and its account-wide effect.

In Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services, turn off Significant Locations & Routes if that switch is shown. This disables that feature; it is not the same as turning off Location Services for the whole iPhone. Apple says disabling Location Services more broadly can limit features in Apple and third-party apps. Its Location Services guidance explains app permissions and the broader setting.

Significant Locations and Maps Visited Places are separate histories
Clearing Significant Locations in Settings does not clear Maps’ separate Visited Places history. In Maps, open Places > Visited Places to view and manage that history. Apple documents options to remove individual places, clear the Visited Places history, and choose retention of 3 months, 1 year, or Forever. Those retention choices apply to Visited Places, not Significant Locations, and the feature is not available in every country or region. See Apple’s Visited Places instructions and its location-history privacy guide.

Apple states: “Your significant locations are end-to-end encrypted and can’t be read by Apple.” Apple says Maps uses Significant Locations for personalized services, including predictive traffic routing. This statement concerns Significant Locations; it should not be read as a claim about every location signal, app, or separate Maps history. Apps must request Location Services permission, and you can review or change that access in Settings. See Apple’s Significant Locations guide and Location Services privacy information.
