How to See All Your ID Card Photos in One Place on iPhone

Create an album in the Photos app, then add the ID card pictures already saved in your library. The album keeps selected images together for easy viewing; it does not create a separate copy or lock them.

Put your ID photos in one album

  1. Open Photos and tap Collections.
  2. Tap Albums, then tap the add control and choose New Album.
  3. Give the album a recognizable name, such as ID cards.
  4. Select the front and back photos you want to keep together, then create the album.

To see the pictures later, open Photos → Collections → Albums and tap the album. Apple’s Photos album guide explains that albums organize items in your library. If you use iCloud Photos, albums are stored in iCloud and stay up to date on devices signed in to the same Apple Account. That provides access and syncing, not an independent backup guarantee.

Find an ID picture you cannot locate

In Photos, tap Search and try a word or detail that may appear in the image: readable text on the card, the issuing institution, a place, or an approximate date. Apple says Photos can search by text and other attributes, including dates, places, categories, and events; its examples of searchable text include an email address or phone number. Check likely matches yourself before adding them to the album.

Live Text can recognize text in photos and let you select, copy, share, or translate it, but recognition varies by language and region. Apple does not guarantee that every ID image or field will be recognized, so search is a way to find likely pictures—not automatic ID-card classification. See Apple’s Photos search guidance and Live Text guidance.

Know what an album does—and does not do

An album is an organizational view of photos in your library, not a separate protected copy. If you delete a picture from Photos, it is removed from the albums that contain it. Apple says deleted items can be recovered from Recently Deleted for 30 days. See Apple’s album guide and its recovery instructions.

Use Hidden if you want more privacy in Photos

If you want the pictures to be less visible in Photos, move them to the Hidden album instead of relying on a regular album. Apple says hidden photos do not appear in the library, other albums, or the Photos widget. On supported software, the Hidden album is locked by default and requires authentication. With iCloud Photos enabled, hiding a picture on one device hides it on your other devices too. Read Apple’s instructions for hiding photos.

Hidden changes visibility within Photos; it is not the same thing as creating an album for convenient access. Choose the arrangement that matches how you want to use the pictures.

Wallet is for eligible digital IDs, not saved card photos

Apple Wallet can hold certain eligible digital IDs—such as participating U.S. state driver’s licenses or state IDs—for presentation at supported checkpoints, businesses, apps, and websites. Availability depends on the jurisdiction and device. Wallet does not gather existing photographs of cards from Photos, so use a Photos album when your goal is simply to see saved ID pictures together. Apple lists the supported cases in its guide to adding a driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet.
