How to Secure Your Apple Account After Clicking a Suspicious Calendar Link

Opening a suspicious calendar link does not, by itself, prove that your Apple Account was taken over. The urgent step depends on what happened next: if you entered your Apple Account password or other personal information on a scam website—or believe the account was compromised—change your password immediately. If you subscribed to an unwanted calendar, remove it in Calendar.

First, work out what you did

Do not reopen the link to investigate. Identify which of these applies:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • You opened the link but did not enter information or subscribe to anything.
  • You subscribed to an unwanted calendar or received an unwanted event.
  • You entered your Apple Account password or other personal information.
  • You shared a two-factor authentication code or approved a sign-in you did not initiate.

Apple advises against following links in suspicious or unsolicited messages and says unexpected requests for account information should be treated as scams. Apple’s guidance on recognising and avoiding scams does not say that opening a link alone confirms account compromise.

If you entered your password or personal information

Change your Apple Account password immediately and make sure two-factor authentication is enabled. Apple recommends using a trusted Apple device when possible. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security > Change Password. Follow the prompts.

#1 Best Overall
Yubico - YubiKey 5C NFC - Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) Security Key and passkey, Connect via USB-C or NFC, FIDO Certified - Protect Your Online Accounts

  • FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5C NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
  • MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
  • PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts

During the change, Apple may offer Remove Other Devices. Choosing it requires those devices to sign in again. In some circumstances, Apple says a security delay of up to one hour may be required; follow the prompts on your trusted device rather than using a link or workaround provided by a caller or message. See Apple’s instructions for changing your Apple Account password.

If you shared a verification code or approved a sign-in

Treat a verification code as sensitive account information. Apple’s two-factor authentication may use a six-digit code when you sign in on a new device or on the web. Do not share a code with someone who contacted you, and do not approve a sign-in prompt you did not initiate. Apple says it will not ask you to provide your password, device passcode, or two-factor authentication code through an unsolicited support interaction or a suspicious web page. Review Apple’s two-factor authentication guidance.

Remove the unwanted calendar or event

Unsubscribe from a calendar on iPhone

  1. Open Calendar and tap Calendars.
  2. Tap the info button beside the suspicious calendar.
  3. Tap Unsubscribe. If you want to report the subscription as junk, choose Unsubscribe and Report Junk when offered.

Apple documents this route in its iPhone Calendar guide.

Delete, unsubscribe, or hide

On iOS 26 or later, Apple’s unwanted-calendar instructions offer Delete Calendar or Unsubscribe from the calendar’s info screen, followed by confirmation. Hiding is different: deselecting a calendar removes it from view but does not delete it or unsubscribe you. If the calendar cannot be removed, hiding it is a visibility workaround, not a cleanup action. See Apple’s iOS 26-or-later instructions for unwanted calendars and events.

Report an individual unwanted event

If the unwanted item is an individual event from an unknown contact rather than a subscribed calendar, Apple’s iOS 26-or-later instructions say to open the event, choose Report Junk, then tap Delete and Report Junk.

Yubico - YubiKey 5 Nano C - Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) Security Key and passkey, Connect via USB, FIDO Certified - Protect Your Online Accounts (Nano USB-C)

If you only opened the link

If you entered nothing, shared no code, approved no sign-in, and did not subscribe to a calendar, a click alone does not establish that your Apple Account was compromised. Remove any unwanted calendar or event if one appeared, and watch for concrete signs of account compromise. Apple’s cited guidance does not set out a separate device-audit procedure for a click-only situation; if you do see signs of compromise, contact Apple through its official support channels.
