How to Secure an OKX Account With Passkeys, 2FA, and Withdrawal Allowlists

Secure an OKX exchange account by layering controls that do different jobs: use a passkey to authenticate sign-ins, enable authenticator-app two-factor authentication (2FA), and restrict withdrawals to saved recipients with the allowlist. Add the new-address lock if you want a 24-hour delay before withdrawals to newly added recipients. These settings reduce different risks; none guarantees that an account or funds cannot be compromised.

This guide covers the OKX exchange account, not the separate OKX Web3 self-custody wallet. Menu labels and availability may vary by app version, platform, region, and account eligibility, so use the options shown in your logged-in account.

What each OKX security control does

Control What it protects What it does not replace
Passkey Authenticates account access using a FIDO credential, which can rely on device biometrics or PIN, another device, or a compatible USB security key. Withdrawal destination controls.
Authenticator-app 2FA Adds a verification step beyond the account password. A strong unique password, passkeys, or checking withdrawal destinations.
Withdrawal allowlist Restricts withdrawals to recipients saved in the withdrawal address book. Recipient verification, which remains a separate setting.
New-address lock Delays withdrawals to newly added allowlist recipients for 24 hours. Careful review of addresses and networks before saving them.

OKX describes passkeys as a FIDO authentication method and recommends authenticator-app 2FA alongside a strong, unique password, an anti-phishing code, and connected-device management. See OKX’s passkey setup guide and account-security guidance.

Set up an OKX passkey

Choose a method you can continue to access. Depending on your device and platform, you may use device biometrics or PIN, approve with another phone or tablet, or use a FIDO2-compatible USB security key. OKX documents the security-key category as an optional setup method; it does not establish that a particular model works with every device.

Set up on the web

OKX lists Windows 10 or macOS Ventura and a FIDO-supported browser as web setup requirements. Its stated browser requirements are Chrome 109 or later, Safari 16 or later, or Edge 109 or later.

  1. Sign in to your OKX account and open Profile > Security > Passkeys.
  2. Choose the option to add a passkey and follow the prompts for your selected device or security key.
  3. Complete the device’s authentication prompt, then confirm that the passkey appears in your OKX security settings.

Set up in the app

OKX lists iOS 16.0 or later, Android 14.0 or later, or an external FIDO2 USB security key for app setup. Android passkeys depend on Google services.

Yubico - YubiKey 5C NFC - Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) Security Key and passkey, Connect via USB-C or NFC, FIDO Certified - Protect Your Online Accounts
  • POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The YubiKey 5C NFC is the most versatile physical passkey, protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts
  • WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with popular accounts like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single YubiKey 5C NFC secures 100+ of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more
  • FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5C NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
  • MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
  • PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
  1. Open the OKX app and go to Menu > Account settings > Security > Passkeys.
  2. Tap the option to add a passkey and follow the on-screen prompts.
  3. Verify the passkey is listed before relying on it for sign-in.

Requirements and labels above come from OKX’s web passkey instructions and app passkey instructions, updated in August 2026. OKX says at least one passkey must remain linked after the feature is activated. If changing phones, establish and test a working replacement before removing the old credential. Removing a passkey without verifying the removal with another passkey may trigger a 24-hour restriction on withdrawals and P2P trading.

Enable authenticator-app 2FA and reinforce the account

OKX’s security guidance recommends enabling 2FA with an authenticator app. The exact in-account route can vary, so follow the security prompts displayed for your account rather than relying on a menu path that may differ by version or region. Keep access to the authenticator available and complete the verification steps OKX presents.

  • PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
  • Use a strong, unique password. Do not reuse a password from another service.
  • Set an anti-phishing code. Use it to help check whether emails claiming to come from OKX are legitimate.
  • Review connected devices. Remove devices you no longer recognize or use.
  • Review other security settings periodically. Include passkeys, authenticator binding, API permissions, and withdrawal settings.

These measures are layered defenses: a sign-in factor does not verify that a withdrawal recipient is the intended one.

Enable the withdrawal allowlist and new-address lock

Save legitimate recipients carefully before turning on the restriction. Confirm the destination address and the network for each recipient; an address or network error can still result in a failed or misdirected transaction.

  1. In the OKX app, open Assets > Withdraw > Withdraw crypto.
  2. Open Address book, then Address settings.
  3. Enable the withdrawal allowlist so withdrawals can go only to recipients saved in the address book.
  4. If you want a delay on new recipients, enable the new-address withdrawal lock as well. Newly added recipients cannot be used for withdrawals for 24 hours.

OKX documents these app steps in its withdrawal allowlist instructions, updated in September 2026. The lock gives you time to notice and respond if an unauthorized address is added; it is a delay, not a guarantee against loss.

Web address-book details

OKX’s web guidance describes the same core restriction and the 24-hour lock for newly added allowlist addresses. It says web users can add up to 50 addresses in one batch and states no total cap. These are operational details in OKX’s web allowlist instructions, updated in August 2026.

Allowlisting is separate from recipient verification

An address saved in the allowlist may still require additional recipient verification. Do not treat the address book as an exemption from other checks. OKX also requires security verification to disable allowlisting; after it is disabled, a recipient can be entered manually during withdrawal.

Respond to a suspected account compromise

If you suspect someone else has access, review the authenticator binding, passkeys, withdrawal whitelist, API permissions, and active devices. Remove unrecognized credentials or devices and reset a compromised password. OKX’s account-security checklist covers these review areas; use the security options available in your account.
