Open the exact product page, choose the intended product options, and wait until its prices finish loading. Put the current price and the crossed-out list or original price together on screen, clear anything covering them, take a screenshot, then open the saved image to check that both amounts and the strikethrough are legible. A screenshot records what the page actually displayed; it does not prove that the crossed-out amount is a universally valid reference price or that the offer applies in every market.
What the crossed-out price represents—and why it may be absent
A crossed-out figure commonly marks an original or comparison price, while the unstruck figure is the price currently offered. Google Merchant Center describes this distinction in its product-price guidance: a sale price should be prominent, while the original price should be less prominent and may be struck through, grayed out, or otherwise shown as inactive. That guidance concerns Google’s sale-price annotations and merchant data; it is not a rule that every retailer must display a crossed-out price.

There may be no crossed-out amount even when you expect one. The merchant’s submitted prices, storefront configuration, product eligibility, selected market, and active promotion can affect what is rendered. Google’s sale annotations on Search and Shopping are conditional, vary by destination and country, and are not guaranteed to appear even when the stated requirements are met. Those annotation rules should not be treated as universal thresholds for product pages.

For example, Omega’s Shopify help documentation describes using a Compare-at price higher than the current Price to show a crossed-out original amount, while noting that a theme or app can affect presentation. Adobe Commerce documents another possible display: minimum advertised price settings can conceal a selling price behind a “Click for Price” action or show a list or market price crossed out, depending on configuration. Treat these as platform-specific examples, not instructions that apply to every shop.

Prepare the page so the screenshot shows the right price state
- Open the exact product listing. Confirm the product name and, if relevant, the model, size, color, or other variant you mean to document.
- Set the state that affects the price. Choose the relevant variant, quantity, market, account state, or promotion option if the page offers one. Wait for the displayed price to update.
- Let the price area finish rendering. Do not capture a loading state or a partly updated page. If the site has a sale-details panel or selection control needed to explain the offer, show the relevant state.
- Arrange the screen. Keep the product identity, current price, and crossed-out amount visible together where possible. Dismiss cookie notices, newsletter pop-ups, chat widgets, tooltips, or sticky banners if they cover any of them.
- Capture the visible area using your device’s screenshot control. Exact keys and gestures depend on your device, operating system, and browser. If both prices fit on screen, a visible-area screenshot is usually the simplest choice.
- Open and inspect the saved image. Check that both figures, currency, product identity, and the crossed-out styling are readable and not clipped, blurred, obscured by a cursor, or hidden by browser furniture.
If the screenshot is meant to preserve a record, keep the unedited original. You can annotate a copy, but make clear which marks were added after capture and which were part of the page. For price evidence that may be shared later, note the capture date and market; prices and promotions can change, and display criteria can vary geographically. This is practical context, not a prescribed legal record-retention standard.
Choose visible-area or full-page capture

Do not assume a standard screenshot includes content below the visible screen. If the price block is the evidence you need, keeping it on screen is safer than relying on an unverified full-page feature. A Singapore competition-authority annex provides one example of a product-page image showing a product, current price, crossed-out price, and stated savings together; it illustrates the value of context, not a general rule for all merchants.

Troubleshooting a missing or unclear crossed-out price
- No original price appears: The merchant may not have supplied or configured a comparison price, the product or offer may not qualify for a particular annotation, or the display may depend on market or promotion. Capture what the page actually renders; do not add an assumed value.
- The amount changes after capture: Recheck variant, quantity, market, account, and promotion selections, then wait for the page to finish updating before taking another image.
- A banner or widget hides the price: Dismiss it if possible and recapture. If it cannot be dismissed, reposition the page or use a capture method that can remove or hide the obstruction, then inspect the result.
- The saved image cuts off the price block: Reposition the page so the product identity and both amounts fit in the visible area. Use full-page capture only after checking that your chosen method preserves the rendered styling and loaded content.
- The struck-through styling is hard to distinguish: Inspect the image at its actual size and avoid relying on color alone. If necessary, capture a closer view that still includes enough product context.
- The selling price is hidden behind a price action: The store may use a configured minimum-advertised-price display. Record the state shown, and use the site’s available action only if you are entitled to access the price.
For repeated price tracking
A one-time screenshot is a visual record of one rendered moment. If you need to track products repeatedly, screenshots can be paired with structured extraction of price, product, and availability data; that is a separate monitoring workflow. ScreenshotCenter describes this combined approach for ecommerce pages, but a single image alone is not a history of price changes.
