Language, location, and a retailer’s selected storefront or delivery destination are separate inputs, so record the conditions alongside every image rather than treating a language setting as proof of a country’s price.
What a language-specific screenshot can—and cannot—show
A browser locale can influence the language signal sent by the browser and how dates and numbers are formatted. It does not by itself select a retailer’s country storefront or delivery destination, and it cannot establish that a displayed price is available to every shopper in that market. Playwright’s documentation says locale affects navigator.language, the Accept-Language request header, and number and date formatting rules (BrowserType context options).

For a meaningful comparison, define the exact product URL, language-region tag, intended market, viewport, and any delivery or account conditions before capturing. Then check what the page actually displays: product identity, language, currency, price, selected storefront, and delivery context. Retailers may use cookies, saved preferences, or dynamic page behavior to determine what appears.
Set up Playwright for a controlled capture
Install Playwright

Capture a localized product page
Save this as capture-product.mjs. Replace the URL and locale, and optionally provide latitude and longitude when location is relevant. The script creates a fresh context for the run, waits for the page to load, checks the resulting page text for a price-related marker you supply, and saves a full-page screenshot plus a JSON record of the capture conditions.

Viewport, element, or full page
- Viewport: capture the visible state with
await page.screenshot({ path: 'viewport.png' });. This is useful when the price and selected market are visible without scrolling. - Specific element: locate the price area and capture it, for example
await page.locator('[data-testid="price"]').screenshot({ path: 'price.png' });. Replace the selector with one verified on the retailer’s page. A narrowly cropped image may omit the currency, product identity, or market context, so preserve those details separately. - Full page: use
fullPage: truewhen below-the-fold details matter. Playwright describes this as capturing the full scrollable page (Screenshots).
Wait for the content that matters
domcontentloaded only means the initial document has been parsed; it does not guarantee that a client-rendered price, selected delivery destination, or consent-dependent content is ready. Prefer waiting for a stable, page-specific selector or visible text that represents the price or product state. Add a timeout and treat a missing marker as a failed capture rather than silently saving an image that could be mistaken for valid evidence. Network-idle waits can help on some sites, but pages with continual background requests may never become idle.

Keep screenshots comparable over time
For repeat monitoring, use the same browser engine and version, operating environment, viewport, locale, screenshot scope, and wait condition each time. Playwright notes that rendering can vary with host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode (Visual comparisons). A changed image is not automatically a changed price: layout shifts, promotions, cookie dialogs, and rendering differences can all alter pixels.

- Capture timestamp and final URL after redirects.
- Locale tag, such as
en-GBorde-DE. - Intended market, geolocation coordinates if used, and the retailer’s visible storefront or delivery selection.
- Viewport dimensions and whether the capture was viewport, element, or full page.
- Observed product name or identifier, price, and currency.
- Browser/runtime version and any relevant account or cookie state.
This metadata is a practical monitoring record, not a Playwright-mandated schema. It helps explain why two images differ and makes it possible to rerun a capture under the same conditions.

Troubleshooting common capture failures
- The page stays in the wrong language: confirm the locale tag is valid and that the retailer supports it. Check the visible page, since saved cookies or an explicit language selector may override browser preferences.
- The currency or price is for the wrong country: locale and geolocation do not necessarily switch the storefront. Use the retailer’s own market or delivery controls where available, then verify the displayed currency and destination before recording the screenshot.
- Geolocation has no visible effect: confirm both coordinates and the geolocation permission are configured. The site may not use browser location, or may require a separate delivery or market selection.
- The price is missing from the screenshot: wait for a specific selector or visible text rather than relying only on document load. Check whether consent, login, or a delayed client-side request is blocking the content.
- The script times out: check that the URL is reachable from the machine running the browser, increase the navigation timeout if the page is genuinely slow, and distinguish navigation timeout from a missing price-marker timeout.
- Screenshots differ despite unchanged product data: compare browser/runtime, OS, viewport, headless mode, page state, and capture timing. Keep conditions fixed and compare extracted price/currency data separately from visual pixels.

FAQ
Does changing locale prove what shoppers in a country see?
No. It changes browser language and formatting signals, but the retailer’s storefront, delivery rules, account state, and other settings can affect the page and price.
Should I use a full-page screenshot for every price check?
No. Capture the viewport if it contains the evidence you need; capture a price element for a focused record or the full scrollable page when other page details matter.
