The capture controls are documented; whether Amazon.in, Flipkart, or another marketplace permits or reliably supports automated access is a separate question. Check the marketplace’s current terms and access controls, then test a small sample before processing a large list.
Choose the capture scope before you run a batch
Playwright supports screenshots of the visible page, the full scrollable page, or a selected element. Pick the scope that answers your use case: a viewport captures what is currently visible; a full-page image includes content below the fold; an element image isolates a product detail or another specific region. Playwright documents these options in its screenshots guide.

- Viewport: useful when you want a consistent, above-the-fold snapshot.
- Full page: useful when details lower on the page matter. A long page can produce a correspondingly tall image.
- Element: useful for a focused capture, provided you can identify the target with a selector.
The Playwright MCP screenshot reference also describes PNG, JPEG, and WebP output, plus CSS-pixel and device-pixel scaling. It states that full-page capture cannot be combined with a target element, so choose one scope per capture operation: Playwright MCP screenshot reference.
Prepare a URL list and output mapping
Keep one product-page URL per line in a UTF-8 text file. Before capturing, remove blank lines, check that each entry is an absolute URL, and decide how you will identify the corresponding output. Stable filenames make it easier to trace a screenshot back to its input; a separate CSV manifest can preserve the exact URL even if the filename is shortened or normalized.

- Use a predictable filename for every input, such as a sequence number plus a short slug.
- Keep the original URL and output filename together in a manifest.
- Record failures separately instead of silently dropping URLs.
- Do not assume every URL will render the same way or be accessible without a particular session.
Playwright’s CLI uses a timestamp-based filename when no filename is supplied. For a batch, supply your own unique filenames rather than relying on that default. See the Playwright CLI screenshot reference.
Capture a list with Playwright
The following Node.js example reads urls.txt, visits each URL with Playwright, takes a full-page PNG, and writes a manifest and failure log. It deliberately uses a modest sequential workflow: marketplace access rules and page behavior vary, so sample the target sites and confirm their current terms before scaling up. The script’s navigation wait is a starting point, not a guarantee that product images or late-loading details have finished rendering. Adjust the wait condition for the specific pages and capture goal, and verify sample output before relying on a large run. This example is a practical pattern, not a claim that marketplace pages have been tested with it.
Change the capture scope
For only the current viewport, remove fullPage: true. To capture a specific element instead, wait for a selector that identifies it and call locator(selector).screenshot({ path: file }); full-page and target-element capture are alternatives, not combined options.

Use the CLI for individual or scripted captures
Playwright’s CLI has a screenshot command with viewport and full-page options, an optional filename, and image-format selection. Consult the CLI reference for the exact syntax supported by your installed version. The CLI is convenient when each capture can be invoked as a command; use the Playwright API when you need a loop, per-URL error handling, and a manifest in one program.
Keep a batch reliable and reviewable
- Start with a sample. Capture a few URLs from each marketplace and inspect the resulting pages, image dimensions, and filenames before expanding the run.
- Make failures visible. Preserve the input URL and error reason. A timeout, blocked request, blank page, or changed page layout should be reviewed rather than treated as a successful product image.
- Use a wait condition that matches the task. A navigation event does not establish that every image or dynamic product detail has loaded. If the content matters, wait for a relevant selector or an appropriate additional condition and check the output.
- Choose image format deliberately. Playwright’s MCP reference lists PNG, JPEG, and WebP. The best choice depends on whether you value lossless detail, smaller files, or downstream compatibility; the documentation does not prescribe one format for every job.
- Keep scope and scaling consistent. Viewport dimensions and CSS-versus-device scaling affect the output. Select settings that make comparisons meaningful and retain them with your manifest.
Marketplace access is a separate decision
Playwright’s screenshot documentation explains how to capture browser content; it does not establish whether Amazon.in, Flipkart, or any other Indian marketplace currently permits automated access, requires login, responds to automation checks, or serves consistent pages. Review the specific marketplace’s current terms and access controls. Do not treat a successful test on a few URLs as proof that a larger batch is permitted or will continue to work.

Troubleshooting common batch failures
- Navigation times out: the page may be slow, unreachable, or not completing the selected navigation condition. Check the URL manually, review the error in the failure log, and choose an appropriate timeout or wait condition for the task.
- The image is blank or incomplete: the page may not have rendered the content you need before capture. Inspect a sample and wait for a meaningful selector or other task-specific readiness signal.
- Some pages show an access or bot-check screen: stop and review the marketplace’s access rules and controls. A screenshot command does not make an inaccessible page available, and this workflow does not establish a compliant way around restrictions.
- Two inputs appear to overwrite one another: use a unique output name per URL and retain the URL-to-file mapping. Timestamp defaults are not a substitute for a deliberate naming scheme.
- An element capture cannot be combined with full-page mode: select either a target element or the full scrollable page for that operation, consistent with the Playwright MCP reference.
- Output format or scaling differs from expectation: check the options for the Playwright API or CLI path you are using and confirm the installed version’s documentation; available options can vary by interface and version.
