With Playwright, you can capture either the visible viewport or the full scrollable page. The method below is a general workflow, not a bank-specific compatibility guarantee; check each bank’s current terms and do not try to bypass its security controls.
What you need before starting
- A list of the exact pages you are authorized to access. For this workflow, prefer public information pages; authenticated account pages can expose sensitive financial information.
- Node.js and Playwright installed on your computer.
- A folder with enough space for the image files, and a plan to keep any sensitive captures private.
Playwright documents page navigation and screenshot options, including viewport and full-page captures, but its documentation is not a recipe tested against Indian bank websites. Bank security controls, page behavior, and terms can differ. See the Playwright screenshot documentation and Page API documentation.

Set up Playwright
- Install a current Node.js release if you do not already have one.
- Create a working directory, then run
npm init -yinside it. - Install Playwright with
npm install playwright. - Install its Chromium browser with
npx playwright install chromium. - Create a JavaScript file named
capture-banks.jsand add the script below.
Capture a batch of pages with Playwright
This runnable example uses a supplied list of public page URLs, waits for navigation to reach the domcontentloaded state, gives each page a distinct filename, and closes each tab when finished. Replace the sample URLs with pages you are permitted to access.

Choose what each screenshot should show

| Full page | The full scrollable page as a potentially tall image. | You need to document content below the fold on a long public page. |
| Element | A selected page element rather than the whole viewport or page. | You need a focused capture of a particular region. Playwright supports targeting an element for a screenshot. |
For a viewport capture, omit fullPage: true or set it to false. For an element capture, locate the desired element and call its screenshot method; the selector must match an element that is present and visible. These modes describe coverage, not guaranteed file size or capture speed.
Adjust readiness and batch behavior
Wait for a page-specific element
domcontentloaded means the initial document has been parsed; it does not guarantee that every image, banner, or dynamically rendered section is ready. If a public page fills in later, wait for a visible, stable page element before capturing. Use a selector appropriate to that page and handle timeouts, since a selector can change or fail to appear.
Use a deliberate delay only when needed
A short fixed delay can help with content that appears shortly after navigation, but it makes every batch slower and still cannot guarantee readiness. Prefer a meaningful selector when one is available. Do not add repeated retries that could hammer a bank site; use a modest batch and respect the site’s terms and behavior.

Make filenames and reruns clear
The example uses an index and hostname so filenames are distinct. For repeated runs, add a date or run identifier if you need to preserve earlier results rather than overwrite them. Keep a record of which URLs succeeded and inspect the output folder before sharing or deleting anything.
Bank website limits and safe handling
No blanket permission or compatibility conclusion applies to every Indian bank site. Check the specific site’s current terms. A bank may use security controls or dynamic page behavior that affects automation; do not attempt to bypass those controls. Use only pages and accounts you are authorized to access.

Banking pages can show names, account identifiers, balances, or other private details. Capture only what you need, review images before sharing them, and store them somewhere you control. The Reserve Bank of India’s “Safeguards for Digital Banking” guidance says, “Never store important banking data in mobile, email or purse.” RBI also cautions customers against sharing login details, card information, PINs, passwords, or OTPs with unidentified persons or through unverified or unauthorised websites or applications. These cautions are relevant to the handling of banking information; they do not establish a universal rule about screenshot automation.
Troubleshooting
- “Cannot find module ‘playwright’”: Run
npm install playwrightfrom the project directory, then rerun the script there. - Chromium executable is missing: Run
npx playwright install chromium. If the install is incomplete, rerun it and check the installation output. - Navigation timeout: The site may be slow, unavailable, or holding the request. Confirm the URL opens normally, then consider increasing the per-page timeout for a known slow public page. Do not treat a longer timeout as a way around security controls.
- HTTP error is reported: The script records non-success HTTP responses as failures. Check the URL and try opening the page normally; access restrictions or temporary site errors may be responsible.
- The screenshot is blank or missing content: The page may render content after the initial document event. Wait for a page-specific visible element, or use a cautious delay where necessary. A selector timeout indicates that the expected element was not found in time.
- Only part of a long page appears: Confirm that
fullPage: trueis set. Pages with unusual scrolling or dynamically loaded sections may need page-specific handling; do not assume every site renders as one ordinary scrollable document. - A page behaves differently in automation: Site behavior can vary. Stop rather than attempting to bypass a bank’s checks, and capture only through access methods the bank permits.
- Some images are missing from the folder: Review the console output and failure list; one failed URL does not stop the remaining pages in this script. Correct the failing URL or investigate its specific load issue, then rerun only as appropriate.

Not necessarily. A page that loads sections on scroll may need page-specific handling, and behavior can vary by site.
