Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool to save either the visible Google results or the full page, then label the image with the query and capture context. It records what appeared in that browsing session—not a definitive ranking report or a guarantee of what every searcher sees.

Capture Google results with Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool

  1. Open Google in Firefox and run the query you want to document.
  2. Open the page context menu and choose the screenshot option. If you prefer a toolbar control, Firefox also lets you add a Screenshot button to the toolbar.
  3. Choose Save visible to capture what is currently on screen, or Save full page to include content beyond the viewport.
  4. Save the image to Firefox’s default download location, or copy it to the clipboard and paste it into your notes or report. Mozilla documents Command+S and Command+C on macOS, and Ctrl+S and Ctrl+C on Windows and Linux, for saving and copying. Mozilla Support: Take screenshots in Firefox.

Choose visible or full-page capture

Option Use it when What it records
Save visible You need a record of exactly what is displayed in the current viewport. The currently visible portion of the page.
Save full page You need results or other page content extending below the viewport. The full page, including content beyond the current screen.

Firefox’s screenshot interface can also capture a selected region or an automatically highlighted part of a page. Mozilla Support describes these options alongside saving and copying screenshots.

Capture a whole page or a specific element in Developer Tools

Firefox Developer Tools provide alternatives when you need a whole-page capture or only a particular page element. The screenshot button in Developer Tools is not enabled by default.

Enable the Developer Tools screenshot button

  1. Open Developer Tools and select Settings.
  2. Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
  3. Use the screenshot button when you want to capture the entire page.

Capture one page element

In the Inspector, open the context menu for the element you want and choose Screenshot Node. This is useful when the part of a results page you need is a specific element rather than the viewport or entire page.

Use the Web Console screenshot command

Firefox’s Web Console screenshot command supports --fullpage for a full-page capture and --selector with a CSS selector for a targeted element. For command details and the available capture paths, see the Firefox Source Docs: Taking screenshots and Firefox Source Docs: Tips.

Label screenshots so SEO records remain interpretable

A screenshot is a record of the results page shown in that Firefox session. Add the exact query and capture context to the filename or adjacent notes so someone reviewing it later can tell what it documents. For example, record the query, capture date and time, and relevant browsing context such as the device or location used. That is practical recordkeeping; the image by itself does not establish a stable or universal ranking position.

Reuse and scope

Google’s Brand Resource Center says permission is not needed to use screenshots of Google Search and results pages in print for educational or instructional purposes. That guidance is limited to the stated use; it does not establish permission for every kind of online or commercial reuse. See Google Brand Resource Center: Search Guidelines.

Or skip the browser setup

For an automated capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL in one GET request and returns a screenshot or PDF. The example below requests a WebP screenshot of a Google search URL; replace the URL with the exact results-page URL you want to record. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.google.com/search?q=firefox+screenshot -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo removes supported cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server includes screenshot tools for AI agents, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. These are automated captures, so retain the query and context in your own records.

Common problems

  • The Developer Tools screenshot button is missing: it is disabled by default. Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Settings > Available Toolbox Buttons.
  • The saved image omits results lower on the page: choose Save full page instead of Save visible.
  • You need just one component: use the Inspector’s Screenshot Node context-menu command or the Web Console’s --selector option.
  • You cannot find the image: Firefox’s save option downloads it to the browser’s default download location. If you need it in a note or report instead, use the copy-to-clipboard option.
