To capture a competitor page at a 1440px viewport in Chrome, open DevTools, turn on Toggle device toolbar, choose Responsive, set the width to 1440, then use More options > Capture screenshot for the visible area or Capture a full size screenshot for the whole page. This is Chrome’s responsive viewport emulation, not proof the page was viewed on a physical 1440px monitor.
Set Chrome’s viewport width to 1440px
- Open the competitor page in Chrome, then open DevTools.
- Turn on Toggle device toolbar.
- In the device dimensions controls, select Responsive.
- Enter 1440 in the width field. Set a height that suits the comparison; Chrome lets you enter both dimensions, but there is no single height prescribed for every capture.
- Wait for the page to settle into the state you want to record.
- Open More options and choose a capture command.

Choose viewport-only or full-page capture
Capture the visible viewport
Choose More options > Capture screenshot when you want the portion currently visible in the viewport—for example, the same above-the-fold region on several competitor pages.
Capture the whole page
Choose More options > Capture a full size screenshot when you need content below the current viewport and the page’s complete vertical layout. Do not treat a viewport-only image and a full-page image as equivalent framing in a comparison.

Chrome for Developers describes the viewport command this way: “To capture a screenshot of what you see in the viewport, click Image More options > Capture screenshot.” The same Device Mode guide documents the full-size option and responsive dimensions: Device Mode.
Make competitor screenshots comparable
For a useful side-by-side comparison, keep capture conditions consistent. This is practical guidance based on Chrome’s dimension and capture-mode controls, not a formal benchmark procedure.

- Use the same viewport width and height for each page.
- Keep browser zoom and relevant browser state consistent.
- Capture the pages in comparable states, such as after the same kind of consent prompt or overlay handling.
- Use the same capture mode—viewport-only or full-page—across the set.
- Label each file with the competitor or page, capture date, viewport dimensions, and capture mode.
A 1440px responsive viewport setting does not guarantee that the saved bitmap itself is exactly 1440 pixels wide. Device scale factor and zoom can affect output dimensions; inspect the saved image if its bitmap size matters.

For repeated capture workflows, Chrome’s DevTools Protocol documents screenshot capture and controls for overriding screen and viewport dimensions. Troubleshooting
The page does not look like a desktop page
Check that the device toolbar is enabled and that the mode is Responsive with width set to 1440. Responsive emulation is a controlled browser viewport, not a physical-monitor capture.
The output is not 1440 pixels wide
The 1440 value is the viewport width setting, not a guarantee about the output bitmap dimensions. Check the saved file’s dimensions and keep zoom and device scale settings consistent when comparing outputs.

Confirm both screenshots use the same width, height, zoom, page state, and capture mode. A full-page capture and a viewport-only capture show different areas by design.
