How to Screenshot Airline Fare Pages and Track Ticket Price Changes

To track an airline fare reliably, save a dated screenshot that shows the full itinerary and fare conditions—not just the headline price—then set a price alert and recheck the seller’s live offer before booking. If you need the image for a price-match claim, follow that airline’s rules: evidence requirements vary by carrier, country and booking channel.

How do I screenshot an airline ticket price?

  1. Search the exact trip. Note the origin and destination airports, travel dates, direction, passenger count and types, cabin, stops, flight numbers and seller. If your dates are flexible, record that rather than treating fares for different dates as equivalent.
  2. Open the full offer. Where possible, proceed far enough to see the final price and conditions, without entering or exposing payment-card details. Keep the site identity and URL visible if the page layout allows.
  3. Capture the relevant details. Include the itinerary, total and per-person price, currency, taxes and fees, fare class or brand, baggage and other inclusions, and booking or cancellation restrictions. If the screenshot may support a claim, make the device date and time visible in the image when required.
  4. Save the original. Keep the unaltered image and its filename and metadata. If you crop or annotate a working copy, retain the original as well. This is prudent recordkeeping, not a universal evidentiary standard.
  5. Log the offer. Add the capture time, route and dates, flight number, seller, total price, fare conditions and image filename to a spreadsheet or note so you can compare later captures.

Capture with built-in device tools

On a Mac, Apple documents Shift-Command-3 for the entire screen, Shift-Command-4 for a selected area and Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app on macOS Mojave 10.14 or later. The default filename includes the date and time, but a filename may not satisfy a claim rule that requires the timestamp to appear in the image itself. See Apple’s Mac screenshot instructions.

For its claim workflow, Qantas lists Windows PrtScr or Alt-PrtScr, Android volume-down plus power, and iOS volume-up plus lock. Shortcuts can vary by operating-system version and hardware; consult the current device instructions if a combination does not work. Qantas recommends desktop or laptop capture when it helps show the required details together.

What should a flight price screenshot show?

  • Airports, dates, routing and flight numbers, plus passenger count and types.
  • Seller identity and, where practical, the page URL and logo.
  • Fare brand or class, baggage, seat or other inclusions, and booking and cancellation rules.
  • Total fare per person, the overall total, currency, taxes and mandatory fees.
  • Capture date and time if relevant—especially if the airline’s claim terms require it.

A screenshot of a search-results card may omit important terms or show a fare that is no longer available. Capture the actual offer and, when a claim is involved, the final checkout or payment page if the airline asks for it.

How do I track flight prices?

Set a Google Flights alert

  1. Search for the route and dates in Google Flights.
  2. Choose to track prices for those dates, or select Any dates if you are flexible. You can also track a selected flight.
  3. Use the email updates to notice changes, then visit the seller and check the same itinerary and fare conditions again before booking.

Google says it may email when tracked prices change significantly and may provide certain price-rise or fare-expiry insights. For Any dates, it says it emails when the route minimum drops significantly over a month; if there is no sufficiently large drop, it sends a regular email with the best available prices. Alerts are notifications, not a promise that the fare will remain available or that it is the lowest bookable offer. Details are in Google’s flight and price tracking help.

Compare like with like

Before deciding that a ticket has become cheaper, align the details below. A different date, fare brand or seller can make two displayed prices incomparable.

  • Same airports, dates, direction and routing.
  • Same flight numbers and operating itinerary.
  • Same passenger count and passenger types.
  • Same cabin and fare class or brand, with comparable ticket rules.
  • Same baggage, seat and other included services.
  • All taxes, mandatory charges, booking or service fees, and currency.
  • A clearly identified seller for each offer, with the capture time recorded.

Can I use a screenshot to get an airline price match?

Possibly, but the airline’s policy—not a general screenshot standard—determines whether the evidence and fare qualify. Check the current terms for your carrier, country, booking channel and fare before relying on an image.

Qantas Price Promise: an Australia-specific example

Qantas’s Australian Price Promise requires screenshots showing the device date and time; competitor website URL and logo; matching Qantas flight details, taxes, fare class, rules and restrictions; the total fare per person on the final checkout or payment page; and passenger count and types. Its policy says screenshots must be taken on the same calendar day and after the Qantas booking, saved as PNG or JPG, and no larger than 2 MB each. It allows up to five images. These requirements apply to that program, not to every airline. See the Qantas Price Promise terms.

Qantas says the original ticket must be bought and paid for on qantas.com or its app in AUD, the trip must depart Australia and use Qantas flight numbers, and the competing fare must be publicly available from an Australian online travel agency operating under an active ABN/ACN. It also requires the identical flight and matching inclusions without hidden booking or service fees; the claim deadline is midnight AEST/AEDT on the same calendar day as the direct booking. The policy specifies a minimum A$5 saving per booking. These are Qantas program rules, not universal price-match conditions.

Qantas may reject a claim if inclusions differ, screenshot requirements are missed, or a third-party page displays a representative fare that cannot actually be booked and paid for. It also excludes metasearch-only fares such as Google Flights from its comparison process. A metasearch result can still help you find an offer; it does not necessarily qualify as claim evidence. Qantas states: “The screenshots you share with your claim are essential in helping us assess whether the claim is successful.”

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF; its clean-shot options accept consent banners like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture. Each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients.

For a quick capture, replace the example URL with the fare page you need. Find setup and parameter details in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Cookie banners, popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are never billed. AI agents can take screenshots through the MCP server. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.

Common problems and fixes

  • The image shows only a headline fare. Open the full offer or checkout details and capture the fare conditions, fees and inclusions as well.
  • The date or time is missing from the image. Add a visible device timestamp before capture if the relevant claim terms require it; a timestamp in the filename may not be enough.
  • The fare changes or disappears before booking. Recheck the seller’s live page. An alert or saved image is not a reservation and does not guarantee availability.
  • A cheaper search result is rejected for a claim. Confirm that it is bookable, sold by an eligible seller and identical in itinerary, fare type and inclusions. Check whether the policy excludes metasearch-only results.
  • The capture shortcut does not work. Device behavior varies; use the operating system’s current screenshot instructions or its built-in screenshot utility.
