How to Screenshot a Page with Lazy-Loaded Images in Chrome

To capture a long page with its lazy-loaded images, scroll through the page first, pausing as new sections and images appear; then use Chrome DevTools’ Capture a full size screenshot command. The full-size capture reaches beyond the viewport, but it does not guarantee that every image has loaded. Check the saved image for blank areas and recapture after loading any missing sections.

Why a full-page screenshot can still miss images

Chrome’s full-size screenshot captures content beyond the visible viewport, but capture and loading are separate steps. Pages may defer offscreen images until they approach the viewport. Chrome calculates when to request them; the distance is not a fixed number and can vary with factors such as image resource type and effective connection type. Chrome’s guidance on browser-level image lazy loading explains this behavior.

Scrolling the page brings deferred content near the viewport so the browser can request it. Give newly revealed images time to load before moving on. This is especially important on long pages where the first screenshot attempt may include areas that were never loaded.

Capture the page in Chrome

  1. Open the page and wait for its visible content to settle. Start after the initial text and images have appeared.
  2. Scroll down in moderate increments. Pause when new content appears and wait for images to render before continuing. Keep going to the end of the page.
  3. Scroll inner panels separately. If part of the page has its own scrollbar, move through that panel’s full range as well. Scrolling the main page does not necessarily expose content inside a nested scroll area.
  4. Return to the top if you want the screenshot to begin at the page’s first section.
  5. Open Chrome DevTools in Device mode. Choose More options > Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome documents this command for capturing the whole page, including content outside the viewport. See Chrome DevTools’ Device mode documentation.
  6. Inspect the resulting image. Check sections where images were deferred. If an image is blank, return to that section, wait for it to load, and capture again.

What to do with infinite-scroll or virtualized pages

Some pages add content only as you scroll; others recycle visible elements instead of keeping every section in the page at once. A single full-size capture may not include all of that content. Capture sections as they appear, or use a method that explicitly handles the page’s layout. A Chrome Web Store listing for FullPageShot describes support for lazy images and body or inner scroll areas, while also noting limits on some virtualized and infinite-scroll pages. Those are claims made in the listing, not independent performance testing.

Check the screenshot before relying on it

  • Look for blank image boxes or unexpectedly empty sections, especially below the initial viewport.
  • Confirm that content inside nested scroll panels is present.
  • For pages that keep loading new items, decide which sections you need and capture them as they appear rather than assuming one image contains the entire feed.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo takes a screenshot through one GET request. Replace the sample URL and API key with your target page and key. The parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can make switching easier. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options and response details.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools for screenshots, page information, and PDF capture. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Troubleshooting

Images are blank in the saved screenshot

The image may not have been requested before capture. Scroll back to the affected section, pause until it appears, and take another full-size screenshot. There is no dependable universal wait distance to use: Chrome’s lazy-loading threshold is calculated and can change with browser heuristics.

Part of the page is missing

Check whether the missing content sits inside an independently scrolling panel. Scroll that panel through its range before capturing. If the page uses infinite scrolling or virtualization, capture the needed sections while they are rendered; one static full-page image may not represent content that the page never keeps present at once.

The page keeps changing while you scroll

Wait for each newly revealed section to settle before continuing. If new items keep appearing, capture the specific sections you need rather than treating the bottom of a changing feed as a stable page end.

Choosing a capture method

Chrome DevTools is the direct option when you want a full-size screenshot without installing another tool. For complex scroll layouts, an extension may offer additional capture behavior, but check its current permissions and privacy terms before installing it. Verify that it triggers deferred images, handles nested scroll areas, and suits virtualized or infinite feeds; the cited extension listing’s claims do not establish independent results.
